Can anyone ID the transmission in the pictures? This is a 360 out of a '77
Cordoba. I was told it was a 727 but the tranny shop is calling it a TF-6. What is a TF-6?
Thanks,
Forrest

Being that "new" (1977!) it may have a lockup converter. TF-6 is industry slang for 904, short for Torqueflite 6, because the A904 was primarily installed in slant six and light duty cars, while the TF-8 (A727) was used primarily in trucks and heavier duty applications with 8cylinder engines, although there is a version of the A727 with a slant six bellhousing, used in some dodge trucks in the early 70's.

It is definately a 904. Because it is behind a 360, it may have a 5 friction high gear drum aka [front drum] and it may have the low gear set as well. What does this mean??? you ask?? Many mopar transmissions have 2.45 first gear ratio, but the low gear set has a ratio of 2.74. This allows the car to accelerate quicker in first gear. This gear set is many times found in "drag" race cars with small block engines! Oh and one more tid bit, this trans is often times refered to as a 999 [heavy duty 904]

Correct. If this is this trans was originally installed on a 360, it shoud be the A-999. That is the heaviest duty trans of the 904 family. The numbers on the pan rail of the trans will identify it.
