like the title say who or how many of you guys have done the bars your self??? did you use the stock springs with them or buy new????do you have any pic????? was thinking last night i may try some of this on the dart project to save a little cash and just have mostly work in to this...would like to do all i can to the car with out farming it out thats all...mike

OK a generational thing here, are you asking about traction bars under the rear leaf springs? Mopars do not use them-it has to do with how Mother mopar mounts the axle in the first third of the spring and not in the middle like Ford/GM. You can use them but they do not help much. I used a adjustable pinion snubber to better effect.

no not traction bars cal trac type bars like the ones calvert sells...but thanks for the help

yes thats the 1's i got the plans from there about a yr. or so ago just never did any but since im working on the dart and would like to fab some up instead of ss spring so i thought someone here had made some and tried them...maybe crackback...anyway would like to see them and get some info on them if anybody has made them..thanks mike

Mike: I bought a set of Caltrac's for my 330 Dodge with there mono leaf springs.
My friend copied mine and ran them on his super stock springs, he was happy with his 60' times. He saved a lot of money, they are not that hard to make. I do have pictures but not on my computer. I will dig them up and scan them for you.

I've built them and they work better than the SS springs in almost every case. There is a reason when you walk the Stock Eliminator pits at an event and see cal track or some variant under almost every mopar and not SS springs.

If you thread the tube, it's less money than the weld in bungs IF you have the tap to do it.

The most expensive part of the kit is the heim ends, usually anywhere from $8-20 each. There are some E-bay sellers that do them in a kit deal. Pretty well priced.

I used CM tube for the force bar and weld in bungs.

Getting an alum spring eye bushing and through bushing is another area. If you have a lathe, you're good.

helped a friend making a set on a non mopar, not that hard if you have the tools and it makes a diference it takes some time setting them just right but well worth it

i bet regular old slappers set up right works just fine, there is other things that makes the snubber a better solution when comparing a snubber to slapperbars. just look at how and where the rotational forces work a rearend and you may see a pattern that matches one pretty comon breakdown of rears in highpowered cars.

I made mine few years ago

hade probleme with them like the car was unloading the rear
tire after the first hit in the box, switch back to my slap barre
and discover the probleme was I didnt use clamps behind the
tire on the leaft spring,I made some with flat barre did alote
better but need to reinstal the cal trac

well ive never used traction bars but got a friend that loves them on his old( i know its not a mopar) but theres a little secret that he use that almost like a cal vert set..he bolts them on without the snubber and put them where they need to be then drill a hole from the bottom where the snubber would be and insatll a long bolt the he run up against the bottom of the leaf and he adjust the bars from there to where the car works well.1974 i think olds looks like a nova with a worked over 455 and batten heads, intake and 1050 crab,tb400 trans,3.73 gears on 28/10.5 runs mid to low 6's in the 1/8 mile but the car is set up from 1/4 mile street ...all steel except the hood mike

nice work crackedback looks damn good. so i guess this completely eliminates the need for a pinion snubber? id love to make myself a set.

I wouldn't buy cal tracs anyways. Id buy(bought) smith race crafts. Way better then anything on the market today.

if you make good power it may be worth welding the axletubes to the center since there will be some big forces there

what about a pair of monoleafs and comp engineerings slide a links?????? or even a pair of slant 6/340 sprnigs and the slide a links???? what is your guys opinions??

Hey TURBOFREEK

Is SMITH RACECRAFT a Camero site. Do I have the right place ?

they are a chassis shop I believe and yes mostly camaros on the web site. They make them for mopars its just not listed on the web. They are the same price as cal tracs, but way more adjustments and better front eye supports. They lowered the prices on them to compete with the cal tracs, but there is no comparison between the two. You can call jakesperformancefabrication.com. he's a dealer for them and is where I got mine from. He's done my entire rearend and suspension stuff including billet bushing for the front eye and shackles at the back. Tell him I sent you. I can get pics if you want or look up my build on the turbo forums for pics there.
