I have a 71 Duster, 15x7 wheels that look evenly spaced......I put 255/70/15 tires on and there are tight, actually rub a tiny bit in the front.........the car sits low, has original leaf springs.

So...I thought of making up some 1/4" spacers to put between the front spring perches and the unibody to move the axle back a hair....it might do it, but still gonna be tight front and back

These 255/70's are so tall (29") it almost looks too much.......

My other options for tires are.......

275-60-15, which are 28" tall x 10.8" wide....1" shorter and 3/4" wider....

235-70-15, which are 28" tall x 9.25" wide.....1" shorter and 3/4" narrower....

255-60-15, which are 27" tall x 10.0 wide......2" shorter and the same width.....as current

255-70-15, which are 29" tall x 10.0 wide......

255-60 might be too short.....275-60 may be too wide......235-70 will fit for sure.....

Any input ?? Thanks

Do you want to stick with the same size front and rear. It seems common to run a smaller tire in front and the 255 x 60's on the back.

they are too much for the front imo.but to each thier own.but whats the ? kinda confused

No, I bought 2 15x7 Keystones that were made with sbp centers for the rear......and I am using 2 of the 14 x 6 or 7 Keystones for the front with 205-75-14......I may have the 14's made into 15x6 in the future,,,,,I prefer skinny on front, wide on rear

What would Fit and look best......will 275-60 fit with NO rubbing.......will 255-60 look too short ??
This is for the rear.....the fronts are 14"

Just noticed the sticky tread up top concerning wheel/tire sizes.......the 255-60-15 do look too short for my liking......so basically wanna know if 275-60-15 on 15x7 centered rims will fit with NO rubbing.....

A 275/60/15 should fit without rubbing, but the backspace has to be pretty close to perfect to keep it off the springs and quarters.

What rear axle do you have? It matters, because the 8 3/4 A body axles are actually wider than the A-body 7 1/4's.

With an A-body 8 3/4 you can usually clear 275/60/15's on a 15x7" with 4" backspace. Keep in mind though, that a 275/60/15 is not recommended for a 7" wide rim. You'd be much better off with a 15x8 and 4.5" backspace. Usually with those specs you end up tight on the springs, but a small spacer can adjust that if need be. Every one of these cars is a little different though.

i run a 8" rim,275/60/15,with 4 " bs.the pass. side will rub.i also run espo 2" over springs to help with this, but ocasionally with rub.

I am running a 275/60/15 M/T Drag Radial. Slight rub if you turn into a parking lot too fast but other than that just normal bumps are no biggy. I run a 15x8 with 3.5" back spacing and the car does have S/S springs with 3" relocation kit. I love the look of this tire!

I have 275s on my 72 Duster with 15x7 rally wheels and they clear just fine

Here is my 71 Duster with relocated springs with 275/60/15 M&H Racemasters.
No problems with rubbing but this is all you can put there I guess.

With a 3" relocation you can get more in there. I have 295's on my Duster using the stock wheel wells. I did have to trim the outer quarter lip back almost a 1/2" though. Heck I only have a 1/2" hanger/shackle offset on mine. But 295 is as big as you can go with the stock wheel wells, to go bigger than that you'd have to mini-tub.

Yea, 295 Hoosiers are in but I have a gentle rub on the inside. Will put spacers, but question is what is the safe thickness for spacers with my current studs? Is 1/4" still safe?

I'm running 275/50/15's nitto drag radials on an 8" rim amd believe they're good for 7" rims as well. Smaller diameter than the 60 due to the shorter profile. I have the srpring offset kit not the relocation kit in my '67. 4.25 backspace. They fit great, look awesome and are super sticky tires.

With the stock studs even a 1/4" spacer can be too much, it really depends on your rims. The stock studs are pretty short though, so it's hard to get enough thread engagement using any kind of spacer, even with the stock rims.

I used Mr. Gasket #4311 wheel studs on my stock BBP 8 3/4" axles, they pressed in with good engagement. You can cut them down to the length you need after installing them if you don't want the "extra" hanging out.

This is how much room you have with 295/60 15 :)

On a Duster, won't work on a Dart. Also, you're car is sitting up pretty high in the back, so that makes the clearance on the quarter less important.

I have 295's on mine as well, but mine are 295/35/18's. With the car lower I trimmed the quarter lips to keep things from rubbing. Even mine sits up a little higher than I would like, but the springs don't have many miles on them so they may settle in a bit still.

I just did this 15x8 with 4.5 bs to my barracuda and only had 3/16 clearance on the springs so I had to add 5/16 spacers and longer lugs to handle the spacers , I'm running the Nitto NR 275/60/15 which is just under 28 tall but 11.1 wide . you might look at the Mickey Thompson 28x10 SportsmanSR . They are a little narrower .

275-60-15 BFG's on back of mine no problem. 15x8 cop car wheels with 4 1/2 back spacing, I think.

If they're original cop rims they should be 15x7" with a 4.25" backspace. They do sell repro's that are 15x8 and 4.5" bs though.

No rubbing on the inside?
I have ss springs, with "quick" turns i have a gentle rub on the inside. The lower the car is the bigger chance for this to happen with body roll. Gas dampers made a change but not that much.
I will trim quarter lips and add spacers to make this go away. Also wanted the car to sit lower but I will do it only after I put spacers with longer studs. I made the front sit a bit higher so overall it looks better for now. Also I have deep pan and wanted to have a better clearance.

whats on the front? Size and back spacing. I like the look. I'm thinking of going with Crager ss and would like to give mine that raked looked. Thanks and nice ride. JJ

I had a slight rub on the inside of the passenger wheel well going through dips, like on the entrance to parking lots, before I added my rear sway bar. With the Helwig rear sway bar installed I don't get any rubbing at all anymore. I have 121 lb rear springs that are basically zero arch and Fox shocks.

I'd be careful lowering your car much though. It's hard to tell from the angle on the picture you posted, but it doesn't look like you have any room to the outside quarter to add spacers. Use a straight edge or yardstick on your sidewall and it will tell you how much room you'll have to the quarter. I know it looks like I have plenty of space on mine, but from the sidewall going straight up I have less than a 1/2" to the quarter lip, and that's after a 1/2" trim.
