I have two parts cars, ones a 67 with a 225/6 and the other is a 68 318 small block car. The wiper motor on the 67 is configured like a later abody 3 speed wiper motor with the motor unit aligned roughly parallel with the firewall (see attached pic). The car I'm building is a 68 car that I'm upgrading with a 383 six pack. I've been told that if I would like to use a six pack air cleaner (the repops that came on the N95 code roadrunners) on the car I'm building, that I may have clearance issues with the air cleaner and should opt for a 3 speed wiper motor to alleviate this problem. I assume the reason for this is that the standard 2speed motor extends out more into the engine bay, while the 3 speed motor is angled away from the engine bay and lies flatter against the firewall. Instead of paying the $400+ people want for the 3 speed units, could I use the wiper motor from my 67 parts car on my 68 instead? And if so, is there anyone who rebuilds these motors? Appreciate any insight you folks may have on this.

Eric

You "could" use the 67 3 spd, BUT you have to use matching 67 3spd switch. So make sure the 67 switch will fit in 68 dash.
There are rebuilders, it ain't cheap and do your homework/research.
Theres one that's a crackhead scammer.

I don’t know where you are but the is a rebuilder in Mequon, Wisconsin. Hauser Electric. I have never used him, but I know he rebuilds stuff for antique and classic cars.

This is what it will look like .. mine had no
Air cleaner when I bought it.. but you can get a look about clearance issues .

I rebuilt my own. It's not hard to do. 67 wiper motor is a leece neville unit. Parts for this thing are non existant. Your better off using a 68 up prestolite variable speed wiper motor and corresponding variable speed switch.

If it helps, here is the clearance issue with a 440 six pack and 2 speed wiper motor on my '69. This is using a shaker base plate. A small tweak to the driver side rear makes it under the motor nose without cutting a notch.........

This re-pop base would surely need a notch cut out of it.....

Yep it's a leece neville. I took it apart to restore. Could not find parts. Bought 2 1967 prestolite V speed motors at the junky. Used both to make 1 good one. Got a 67 Vspeed wiper switch, never looked back. Motor housing I sent to have re plated. Prob got $150 in the whole mess. Junkyard gave me the motors. They were such sorry shape he said it would be a crime to charge me for them. Lol

In my experience, that variable 3 speed switch is more problematic than the motor. If the motor runs and its park switch works, you might just clean it up, make it look new. Maybe flush the gear box and add new grease. New rubber mounting grommets are available if needed. The 67 linkage has bronze bushings at points which maybe worn egg shaped and noisy. The 68 should have replaceable black plastic bushings.

These motors had been sitting in the elements 25 years or more on cars with no hoods. There was no choice but to take them completely apart. Full of rust, texas red dirt, and dirt dauber nests. At 50 years old I had to source a NOS main crank arm drive gear because the 2 I had in the motors I took apart the nylon was cracking. This stuff is ancient by now. Honestly the best thing to do is take it apart and go through it making sure wires arent deteriorated. They used color coded fiberglass tube over the wire. By now that has about fallen apart. I used color coded heat shrink over the bare wires on the motor side instead of fiberglass tube to make it more durable.

I have dissassembled the V speed switches and cleaned the brass and copper with alumaprep 33 and thoroughly rinsed, dried, and re crimped back together. No issues. Everything ohms out ok.
