I've been looking into an engine upgrade, and I've been looking at a lot of different options.

I was looking at the 408 Blue Print Crate Engines, but there's not much detailed information about some of the components.

If you have purchased, own, owned, or know someone that has and you can tell us what comes on on it please post what you know?

Their are 2 different types:

375 HP with Iron "Magnum heads".
http://blueprintengines.com/index.p...ler-408-main/item/chrysler-408-base-bpc4082ct

445 HP with aluminum heads.
http://blueprintengines.com/index.p...ler-408-main/item/chrysler-408-base-bpf4083ct

They come in bare long blocks and and a dressed version (intake, carb, and dist.)

Some of the Things I would like to know:

What type of heads are used: stock magnum's, Upgraded EQ's, Eddy's?

What type of rockers arms: Magnums, shaft, stock, aftermarket (what brand and type)?

What type of oil pan: stock, aftermarket (what brand and type)?

What type valve cover: stock, aftermarket (what brand and type)?

What type of intake (what brand and type)?

What type of carburetor (what brand and type)?

What was needed to do the install?

How was the drivability?

I have read a lot of threads on many different forums, and I usually have to read through several post and or pages before I get any answer. Sometimes the thread gets so side tracked that the question never gets answered! So please keep this thread strictly factual so that we can have all the information here for everyone to see, and only post what you know, not what you think you know.

**PLEASE THIS THREAD IS FOR COMPONENT INFORMATION ONLY, SO PLEASE DON'T CLUTTER IT WITH OPINIONS!!! Lets leave them for another thread! THANKS:)**

I have the blueprint 375hp engine in my 67 belvedere non dressed. It uses magnum heads edelbrock air gap intake kevko oil pan and came with mopar performance valve covers. It currently has a demon 750 at some point I'd like to fuel inject it. The drivability is great lots of torque idle sounds great. For the instal just needed basic parts to finish off the motor like water pump distributor plugs wires. I think it's a good engine for the value. I bought the engine in 2008 from jegs, could be alittle different now for valve covers etc. Dustin

I have herd a few good things about blue print engines and a lot of bad things that said I have no personal experience with them . If I was in the market for a nice stroker I would consider the excellent builders on here like mrl. or IQ52 and there is ou812 and RAMM. and there are more .they all will stand behind there work and not mess you around .

Thanks Dartsun!

lobsterman- Thanks for the advice, but please let's keep this thread about what components are in these engines.

I had a BP chevy stroker 383 in my Stingray.
The thing ran great.....freakin' beast!
Thousands of miles - zero problems.....

For the price I thought they were great.....

Junk.. Stay away.. We have installed many in different customers cars and they were nothing but problems, Rebuild a engine will be the best bet

looking at what you get for the price there are a few things to consider
what is in the car now?

I have a 360, which had a small cam in it already, and I had a weiand action plus intake on it

I send it over to MRL and got close to the same results (little more HP, little less TQ)

and I spend less them what they are asking

Johnny From Pace Performance Here,
We sell these engines daily, and I can report in the last 5 years we have had one warranty, and it was for a leaky RMS on a chevy.

I see you're the latest victim of threadjacking, and your questions aren't being answered, I'll tell you what i know about them.

Heads on the magnum are stock castings, with upgraded springs, valves and guides. but stock castings, not Eq's.

heads on the aluminum topped engine are edelbrock RPM

intakes on both are professional products, not edelbrock.

rockers on both heads are stock style, not aluminum body or anything aftermarket.
shaft on the LA ped on the mag

both have kevko oil pans.

both have holley carbs.

the mag headed engine has stock valve covers, although they are supposed to be changing to edelbrock cast aluminum, black ones (if you ordered one today we could request that)

the alum headed engine has basic chrome covers.

hope this answers your questions about the line. we sell them for the same price they do, and i'd be happy to answer any other questions. PM if you need my work number for more questions.

are there other options? values? 3G hemi swaps out there? ;) yes...but you didn't ask that...so i'll respect that :)

:violent1:

Hey all, Please this isn't a thread about whether you like Blue Print or not!

I'm just looking for information only so please stick to the facts Jack!!!!!!!!! :D

johnnymac2k6, since you deal with these can you give me some of the info I'm looking for?

Sure? As ram points out I pretty much answered your questions above, but be happy to answer more if you want.

Sorry didn't see that post! Very helpful though, Thanks Johnny

I know two people that have them.
One has a LA block with mag heads.
The other one is a mag block with mag heads.

They were both purchased within 6 months of each other, so I guess the motor you will get is dependent on what they have in stock for cores.

The only way you are going to answer your question is to call them.

I have worked in a production engine shop. I hated every day of it. If you buy a PER engine (brand does NOT matter) don't expect it to be performance oriented. As a general rule, they don't hire machinists, they just hire a guy who can stand at a machine and do lots of parts per day. Most have no idea what they do, or why they do it. They just do what they are taught. Which is very little. They have no idea what surface finish is, why you would care. Or how to finish a bore, or how to pick a valve job. It is strictly production stuff.

You can throw a hissy fit and say don't say anything in my thread if you don't have experience. I have experience. I'm not trying to sell you a thing. Just telling you facts. You won't save any money. You won't have a custom, performance engine. You will have an engine, machined to very loose specs by people who are just not machinists or engine builders.

There are exceptions to every rule. But this is pretty much true with a PER's.

Buyer beware. As an old man once told me, don't step over donuts to pick up dog turds.

If you intend on disassembling and inspecting the engine, then get the Blueprint. It is a money saver in that way. Gasket sets are cheap in the long run. It pays to make SURE of what you are getting, regardless of who builds it. We've seen failures from the best of the best on here before.

No hissy fits here! Your opinion may be very valid, but as I stated in my 1st post, I'm not looking for opinion, I was just curious to know what exactly went in to a Blue Print crate motor no more no less. By the way I own a Dog boarding kennel business and I have to pick up dog turds all the time, but I still like donuts!:D

RustyRatRod,

You make a very good point, that's exactly how I was looking at this!

I finally heard back from someone at Blue Print, and here's some more info they gave me if anyone is interested:

"We do not use engine quest heads on either of our builds. The Iron heads we use are
factory Chrysler castings that we will work over, casting numbers 671 or 302. Also on
that iron head we are using pedestal mount rockers. The aluminum heads that we use are Edelbrock and they are a shaft mounted rocker system. Also all rockers are stamped steel not roller. Let me know if you have any further questions!"

Thank You,

Shockingly identical to post #8....:???:

Why in the hell would you spend good money on an engine and then take it apart??.:wack::wack:find a builder you can trust with an excellent reputation from the start..I don't trust any of those crate motors..

Those prices are really a good deal for a no hassle proven engine with enough power for 95% of the people.
