ok. here is the deal. 1st car: i have a 70 340-4 speed duster, numbers matching engine,trans......... the front framerails are gone from accident years ago. needs quarters and all other normal rot fixed.

car 2: i am picking up on wensday a 72 340-4 speed car. the problem is, at some point, someone stole the vin tag off it at a body shop.so, the guy turned around and put a 73 duster tag on it and has had it tagged for 15+ years like that. i did get the origional fender tag that matches the rad support and trunk, showing it to be a real 340 and 4 speed.

bot cars need the same amount of work, and time put into them.

the 72 does not have the origional engine or trans. it has a ram built 360 that is putting out 465 h.p at the crank. it is an older setup, but has not been run much at all.

the numbers correct drivetrain i have prepped and was going to install it all in my 70 pink duster, but have been thinking.
1. should i instead, install the 360 and 4 speed into the pink car, and leave the numbers matching setup available, in case once i am done with pinky, i would have another project?
2. continue on as planned and put the 340 and 4 speed setup in pinky, and just pick up a solid roller to drop the ram engine into?
3. just part out the 72, as it has a like mint set of black buckets, either dougs or tti headers, all 4 speed stuff, i need the column for my pink car, 8.75,............................

give me some answers!

actually abodee, they are correct for a 73 duster!, and in mint condiotion. i do not know if they have been recovered, but look like they just rolled off the showroom floor!

Put the 340 in the pink duster, It really doesnt matter about numbers matching, if you dont have the pink cars orig numbers engine. When and if you go to sell it, having a 340 will be a selling point, a 360 while all fine and good, aint gonna be what a guy wants to hear when he asks whats in it.. sell the 360 to a racer.

if it comes to a point that you decide to part it out, i would be interested in the seats and if you come across a good 73 duster grill (center section) i would also be wanting one .if it were me, i would hold on to the 340/4 speed and run the 360. that way you can keep the original 340/4 speed for a rainy day and have it fresh and ready to go,and you can beat on the 360 without the worry of putting a rod through the block and killing the original engine (not that you would but well, just sayin) lol

With all of the nice work your doing to the Pink car, I think it DESERVES the 340. In my opinion its like the cherry on top.

But its your car and I know it will be one nice ride with either one in it

15 years or not that cars still illegally titled. Could be stolen. Have you checked the core support and trunk rail vins with the dmv?

yes, i checked the core support, trunk and speaker tray. all numbers match the fender tag, showing it to be a 72 340-4 speed, also, the door sticker matches too.

i also took this number and talked to my brother, who is a out of state trooper, and he has verified that the car is not stolen. appreciate the insight. i did my homework!

Was going to agree with this...till I saw the pic...sad..... here's my idea. Use a 360 in whatever you want, and sell me the 340! At a good price of course, and help with shipping...and...ahhh...well....speaking of help.....i'm not much...never mind.
Except to say, numbers matching is a sweet thing for an old car. But if an old car is too far gone....well? Never mind.
