We kept that much space so that we wouldn't have too much heat on the paint. We did even it out a little with a grinder.

okay. got the TTI 2.5" x-pipe, and pypes violator mufflers. they seem to be nice pieces, and they are surprisingly, very light...
more to come. i still need a couple random mandrel bend pieces and tips to finish. still in mock up stages.

no, this is for my 68 cuda, with that 318 i rebuilt and had break in problems with, but all is better, and a rebuilt front end. if this works out okay, i'll probably do the same thing on my 70 dart with the 408. im anxious to know what these mufflers sound like. probably this weekend ill clamp them on and test fire it up.

2nd,looks like the exhaust got heated:binky:
3rd,with a blown car,you can't have too big an exhaust.I was very fortunate to have a fabricater that had 4 inch stainless pipe and I supplied the mufflers,adapters and clamps and he fabbed the "X" pipe.Between the interweb reading I did and what my respected advisers told me,I went with the "X" pipe and really dig how it sonds in comparo the the ultra flow round 36 inch long 3.5 stainless mufflers sounded.The old muffs exited in front of the rear axel with no turn downs.
Pic's show old & new,I will also add that we can have a conversation while dring down the expressway,,,unless I press the LOUD pedal:happy1:

Check out this video of a bunch of different cars sights and sounds leaving a local " anything goes" car cruise.
My barracuda is about the fifth car to roll out.
The reason I am posting this video is because I am running a headman x-pipe with flowmaster 40's and turn downs before the rear axle just as he is asking about.
I wish I had opened up the secondaries and shifted at 5500 rpm but there are cops all over this event and will,nail your ***.
These stupid punks stand there and egg you on to do burnouts then they take video of your license plate in case the cops don't get you then they run to the event coordinators and turn you in....little faggots.
They cheer when the cops nail people and I was not about to do anything stupid.

Everyone says my car sounds friggin killer but it's loud as hell inside and drones like mad especially idling at red lights.
I would love to take the exhaust all the way out back.

nice pics there! holy big huge exhaust!! i clamped on my mufflers onto the x-pipe and fired her up....i am very surprised at how MUCH the x-pipe QUIETS everything down...so much so, that I'm a little disappointed...it REALLY quieted down...i was hoping for it to still be loud, but it wasnt. i even bolted on the old flowmasters i had and it was a little louder, but nothing like before the x-pipe...now im not so sure if i should run it...i like loud stuff. lol
update!!!
guess what? those pretty pypes violator mufflers sounded like complete garbage! BAHAHA!.. they were....RASPY.....way too raspy...so i sent em back to summit and got a full refund.
i decided to entirely skip the "exit in front of rear tire" deal and just put turn downs in front of axle. They angle slightly outward so they dont point directly at the ground. I used the flowmaster super 44's. they sound BEEFY. I am much more happier with this setup.

James where did you get that style of hanger at the end of the mufflers? Also too exiting right at the rear axle arent you afraid of exhaust entering in the car?
i got them from TTI. they utilize the rear seat belt mounting bolt. they provide a new longer bolt with a special shoulder.
and im not too worried about the exhaust entering the car. but maybe i will be if it starts to bother me. ill have to try this out for a while and see...until then i have to get my new rebuilt tranny that me and my brother rebuilt, rebuilt again. LOL i broke the front pump seal during installation and it cause no 3rd gear shift. i pulled it apart and found all m clutches were smoked due to no fluid pressure. bummer.
