Your First Car

-
My first car was a '68 GTX, which I still own. It is pictured here with my sister and me in summer 1973, about two months after I bought it from the original owner. The car is now about 50% disassembled in the garage for rebuilding.

It is a 440. The first owner had the original rear Magnums and tires stolen at Shea Stadium and he replaced them with steel slots with Mickey Thompson G 60s.

I have always liked MoPars because almost nobody had one back then. My dad had a '48 Chrysler when he was in the Navy. My parents bought a '67 New Yorker new. I guess it kinda rubbed off on my brothers and me (440-6 Superbird; 440-6 '70 'Cuda).

My first car was a 74 Roadrunner 318 auto car it was green with white stripes ,and had the power bulge hood. I once heard someone whisper to their friend "those things came stock with Hemi's" I had to laugh inside .:-D

I am only 17 and my dad is a GM fanatic, well an anti-Mopar fanatic anyway.
My first car was a 1994 Buick Skylark, since then I have had:
1983 Chevy K5 Blazer 6.2 diesel
1997 Ford Ranger 2.3 5 speed 2wd
and my daily driver 2002 Silverado 1500HD crew cab 4x4 short bed, with a 6L v8

1973 dart swinger. bought it from my friend's dad. it was his mother's and she died and they didn't need it. nicer than the car i have now and like everyone else has said a million times "wish i never sold it". In 1992 when i got it, it had 54,000 miles on it. i sold it about 3 years later and it had 80,000 on it. Still working on mine and I know that it will be a lot nicer eventually but still miss that first one.....

learned to drive on the 88 dodge caravan in the back. and you can sneak a peek of my brother's 76 panel van. that thing was STRAIGHT FROM THE 70's!!!!! wow crushed velvet button tucked interior with a bed in the back. high back captains chairs. My Mom used to say it looked like a coffin inside!!! LOL!!! AND IT HAD A 360 POLICE INTERCEPTOR IN IT!!!!!

WOW!! MEMORIES!!! and honestly my girlfriend's dad was mopar guy and loved that van but never wanted to see me pull up to his house in it....

My first car was a 73 Challenger Rallye (purchased used in 77) with 318 & 8 3/4 rear (276 gears) with a 904 tranny. It was dark green metallic. A few years later did a swap to 340, 727, 3.91 gears in it.

Musclecars shouldn't be underpowered.:-D

I actually owned my first Mopar before I had my license. It was a rust free 66 4door Dart /6. Bought it in nineteen hundred........and seventy two for $300, and sold it a few months later for $350. Big profit in those days :happy10:.

Next car was my 68 Formula S 340 4speed notch. Like a damn idiot, I sold it. I loved that car, and recently located it, stored for the past 10 years.

Then came the 68 Dart GTS 340 4speed. That lasted me through the summer, and I sold it to get of all things, a 68 Fury.

I pretty much went down hill after that, and went to the dark side out of stupidity, and bought a 70 Chevelle LS7 454 4 speed.

Family cars after that until 2006, when I bought my 90 Chevy SS 454 and 73 Dart Sport. I know, long winded, but you asked 8). Tim

Mine was a 73 'cuda I bought in 83 for $650. Wish still had it. Tore the rear frame out from under it one day when I hit a fire hydrant.

It was a blast to run. So much power, you couldn't keep it from spinning. I should have bought stock in tire companies. That was one of the reasons I bought the SS 454 I've got now. Somehow though, it isn't quite the same. :dontknow:
Back in the day the muscle cars were cheap and plentiful.
I forgot to mention the 63 Impala SS convertible. Texas car, 327, auto console, loaded, red/black/black. Sold it for $375. Tim

Technically my first car was a 65 dodge polara 2-door. Never got it running. Painted the engine compartment, scraped and undercoated the whole underside, rebuilt the brakes bought a frontend rebuild kit. Cleaned out and painted the gas tank. Bought a 74 new yorker for $400 for the 440/727, actually drove that car for a year until i tried to swap the engine into the polara, it was orginally a 383 and i didn't know that it had a one year only special drivers side mount just like an a-body. I was young a dumb and gave up on it. Put the polara in storage and didn't pay the bill so i lost it. Bought and 73 duster with a 318 drove it for a coulpe of years and then put the 440/727 in it with power steering did all the fab work by myself. Then bought a 72 demon with 45,000 miles. Had that for a couple of years then swap drivetrains with the duster. Sold the duster with the running/driving six cyl. Kept the demon for another year but kept braking it, street racing it, so i got pissed of and sold it. Stupidest thing i ever did! Then i bought a new 03 hemi pickup. Got married and had two kids, hemi got repod. Then i bought my 74 dart which ive had for 2 or so years. Sorry so long, but was nice to tell!!

I hate to admit it, but my first 5 cars were late 60's, early 70's, Darts or Dusters. I bought them out of Junkyards with a /6 and a three speed for $50.00, drove them until they quit or needed an oil change, whichever came first, then abandoned them and let the Michigan State Police haul them off. It took me 30 years to get back into Mopars, and I wish that I had any of the 5 back!

My first car was a 1972 Dart Swinger, F3 Green, black vinyl and houndstooth, Slant 6/auto. I got it right before I turned 16, took my driving test in it, drove it every day for two years...and I still have it. Its been in primer for 10 years, someday I'll paint it. I've had it for almost 15 years, my son wants it.

First ever car was my 72 dart swinger i got it when i was 14 3 years ago and it still sits like i got it for christmas on jackstands on the garage floor since then ivae had two other guys the first to be driven was my 1996 dodge neon that i blew up and now i have a 2000 Oldsmobile alero. I love that car but some of the things that happened in the back seat of that crappy neon ill never forget

1972 Chevrolet Malibu 350. It was Baby **** brown with a vinyl top...rusted so bad we had to scrap it when the motor quit running.

My first Mopar OTOH was a 1971 Duster /6. Since then, I have had 9 or so A bodies including two real 340 Demons, a 70 Challenger and a 74 Barracuda. MAN I miss those cars :(

1st car was a '70 Maverick. First thing I did was trash the straight six and drop in a 289 v-8. Then it goes '68 Galaxie 500,'72 Pontiac Lemans GT,
'80 pinto(v-8 prodject that never got finished), Then '69 sport fury,
'86 w100(new),
Note the Pontiac I hated the most. Looked nice but hated it.

I used to laugh at a freind that ran Mopars. Some of the unique mechanical designs and problems I found funny. Not so much anymore.

Bought an Olds Vista crusier to move from NJ to Indiana for college. After school, back on East coast bought a 68 Satelitte for $600 (82) and drove it for 12 years. 2 door, slant, three on the tree. Have had mostly darts and valiants since.

This is the car that got me hooked on mopars, and it was my first mopar.
It was I believe a 1978 Dodge Aspen R/T. I got hit in the side by a POS ford station wagon who ran a red light the frame ended up being badly bent and the insurance company totaled it. Anyone know of any of these being around yet?

this was my first car. a 65 barracuda with a 318 and 4 speed. it took me about 4 years to get it going. disc brake swap, rebuilt frontend 8 1/4 rearend. and 15x7 police wheels. i was only 14 when i got it. i only put about 1300 miles on that car. it sat alot because i didnt make much money when i was younger and i was more into my motorcycles. i ended up selling it to damraider when i moved out of my parents house. i miss that car, but i will have another someday.

my first car is a 1988 nissan maxima 5spd 3.0 v6 with 175,000 miles. 80,000 on the trans in it now. then the second was a 74 duster and then third a 73 dart swinger. theres all three in one pic the trucks are my dads and best friends.

Mine was a poo-brown 1981 Buick Regal. After months of considerable torture, the mighty 231 was magically transformed into a V-4 one night. The car then received the small-block, four-speed, 4.10 posi treatment. It came to be known as "Diarrhea" amongst the local young ruffians. I miss that car mostly for the vicious beatings it endured while still mostly returning to "point A" (aside from the occasional scattered trans).

The Demon in my sig pic looks identical to my first car. A 1972 340 Demon that I bought in 1975. I have owned a variety of cars over the years including, 70 340 Duster, 70 Mach 1, 70 1/2 SS Camaro, 69 GTO Judge, 78 Z28 and a 72 Vette. After I met my wife I always talked about building another 72 Demon. After 20 years I did it.
