Ok,

Here goes. We are starting the semi-restoration of the wife's 69 jamaican blue convert. The car looks nice on the outside but suffers from some issues with the frame, interior and engine/transmission.

It is an original numbers matching slant 6 car and will be staying that way with the exception of building the 6r and making it run and sound more like a hot rod.

The interior work started in spring and we have all the skins on the seats.

We are starting on the body which will not be to bad as the exterior is in good shape. Under the car is another story that we will document along with the rest of the build.

Our goal is to have the mechanics done and the body and interior looking good by spring. We will work on wheels and tires later.

Enjoy the basic build of the air cooled cuda.

Looking forward to it...............

The top is like new....we only have it up when it's in storage.

The rest is pretty good but the floors need some patching and the rear frame rails need some capping.

I have a set of contoured frame connectors that will be installed to help keep it from bending in half.

Grill needs complete resto along with tail panel...I can already feel my wallet getting thinner...

Few more pics from last couple of days work....this one will come along slowly and as funds become available. Luckily most of the $tuff has been purchased over the last few years.

Nice car! I love that color is that actually a mopar factory color for 69? Does it have any metallic in it? Im going to be painting my 70 swinger soon, i was planning on going with the bright blue that is on all the new 2010-2011 F150's. thanks for any info looks like a nice car

Sweet 68 vert...looks like your sixer sprouted a couple cylinders....:-D

Yes metallic and yes it is a factory color. Its called Jamaica Blue Poly or B7 blue.

Mop.

I'm gonna change the inside to match the outside including the dash and dash cap. I think it will look nicer that the B5 color it is now. It's hard too tell in this pic you see the interior paint is B5 or Med Blue. It clashes like hell with the B7 blue on the outside. Why it was ordered that way? Who knows it was 1969 and they may have thought the colors were all the same...blurry hazy vision.

Anyway, I am changing it all to B7 with the cream white panels and seats and B7 colored carpeting....the white is similar to the beautiful 68 vert in the previous photo's.

OK so last night we removed the old aluminum floor patches to see what was hiding behind them.....not pretty on the driver side...brace is shot.
Passenger side is slightly better and not as soft.

So I guess I will cut out the bad and then see what I need to do with the patch pans.

I am thinking that I can save some of the original pan and trim the patch pans to fit rather than cutting out the whole floor.

Any comments and tips would be helpful.....I am not a professional but I have a welder and a fire extinguisher:toothy10:

Yea...at least on three sides.

I have the floor pans for all four wells.

Time to get out the cutting wheel and take a deeper look.....look out fuel lines here I come..:toothy10:

in addition to the cut off wheel Blaire makes a great spot weld removal drill bit..... :read2:

Yes they do.....I am the proud owner of one of them and it works awesome.

I drilled out about 40 or so on another project and it made life easy.

I got under it today as I was taking the engine apart and noticed something strange.....one torsion adjusted bolt is screwed in about 1/2 way and the other is not even touching the tab that puts tension on the bar.!!!!!

Im thinking yea....the front end has always been a little mushy but it sat level and since its a tired ol 6 it cant go over 55....never noticed a ride issue.

So I tightened the one that wasnt touching until it made contact and then a couple of turns and I get up an look at it and its sitting cockeyed now.

Somethings up and I'm wondering if the torsion bars could be installed backwards......

The car also had some Safe T Cap work done by someone else before we bought it. They had to cap the trans top support/torsion mount and the front frame rails all the way up to the front on 3 sides.

What should I be looking for that may be causing this?

Thanks in advance:stop:

Just an update and a pic...

Drained the beast today and pulled the intake/exhaust mani's off.
Got all the wire pulled and I'll get to that later...Im gonna hide it this go around.

Found an old mopar guru around here that's gonna help me with my 6rbuild...er build it for me. We talked today about what I was trying to accomplish and he said we could build a nice motor for a reasonable price. I figured he can build and I will learn and in the end the motor will run:cheers:.

So good news is he said that new long runner Aussie Speed intake will work well on this build so I am geeked.

We pull motor tomorrow if it gets warmer..-10 wc right now:angry7:

Weather got better this weekend so more stuff out and more room to work.

Going to start on floors this week...well I'll try anyway. Pull went smooth with confusedcuda helping out. The only drawback was the fluids all over the floor...I went through 3 weeks worth of t-shirt rags :angry7: cleaning it all up.....and yes I drained them as much as possible...that slant held a lot of coolant that's for sure.

Oh well the day was beautiful and the drive train is out so that is great...now to deal with the rust.

Enjoy the pics.
