She's LUMP! Restore or Part/Scrap? FABO Help!

Hmmm......
What color is a Lump?
Non stock way cool but not doing under hood, trunk deck, or engine compartment B4 winter, daily driver....

Stock color ugly as all heck but will look great with engine bay, under hood and trunk deck....

it's only a 4 door......
What to do......


We are at this moment discussing base color, all from 74;
Now Stock; Y4 Golden Fawn (Also known as Baby crap brown)
OR
Y6 Gold Irid.
L6 Aztec Gold Irid. (Was a spring color in 73 also)
T5 Sienna Irid

Later I will be overspraying the top only with W1 Eggshell white for effects.
Then overspraying clear with gold micro mixed in for sparkle overall in spring.:happy2:

Personally, i would paint it the original color now....it should be easy to spray, and then paint it what you want when you re do it and then paint the jambs, engine compartment etc. to match.
I wouldn't paint the top white though, but that's me. PLEASE don't put those '76 Dart S.E. hubcaps on it! Stick with the dog dish ones on it now!
Keep it up with the build pics and tunes!

I would just paint to match for now. Also by painting to match for now would take less work and may sell easier if need be for a future house note. You are a very busy man.

Paint will have to be bought and at the ready. This time of year painting has alot to do with the weather channel!! LOL!!
I'm at Tuesday or Wed. this week.

Too many supervisors in work area. I had to run them all into the house when I started sanding the kitty hair. You don't want to breath that dust!! That hair ball wouldn't be comming up anytime soon if inhaled!!:D

I'm leaning towards the stock (Fawn) baby crap brown just for ease.
But gold metalic would bring a trophy or 2 next season! Besides I really don't get pumped about paint unless metallics and custom oversprays are involved. I might fall asleep painting the stock color. It's so non motivating!!

HAHA! You mean those unmarked painted in the center hubcaps in earlier post? LOL!! We were thinking of those for our Duster!
The Dog dish caps are our 64's winter caps! Baby won't be needing them sense she is vacationing in our garage this winter and is already in there!!
So I guess Lump has the dog dishes on till spring.

I hope I don't have to sell this one. I'm getting very tired of selling my Darts. I miss the ones I already sold this past year.
I really got too much personel time, sweat, and blood in Lump to be selling! Besides it would be a tough sell after it being wrecked and all. All my other sold darts were rust free, 4 door cherry show cars and all of them only sold for around $2500.00 each. No money to be made there. Your either loosing money or breaking even.
I flip other cars, but I hate selling Darts! I will only sell a Dart when there is no other option.

So it seems a young mother went to the doctor with her very young son.

Been poking away at last min prep.
removed pass fender marker lamp, turn indicator, pass side spear molding.
Got 1 small area to wet sand for level on drivers sail panel.
Worked on the Ferd ranger the last few days to no avail. Still here for sale and the price drops 100 or more every morning.
Last night I was trying to repair front bumper fill piece. I decided Hell with it, Lets paint!!! F that filler. Later we'll remove the front bumper, cut down the bumper shocks and reweld them 1" shorter to snug the bumper up next to the body, filler in the trash where it belongs. Rear filler stays but get painted too.
Thw weather people have only job you can get wrong every day and it's no big deal!!

Tonight;
Sail panel sand, then 800 grit wet overall for smooth mirror like finish.
If no rain will mask in AM, shoot AM- Noon, mad dash into barn, rain by tomorrow night.
4 days ago they were calling for mid 70's and sunny. Yesterday sometime they changed it on me to mid 60's rest of week rain every day!!
THAT SUCKS!
Went and priced paint and swag today.
Fawn (Baby Crap Brown) Y4 = $116.00 - $132.00 a Gal. depending
Gold Irid. Y6 = $Same price as above
Aztec Gold L6 = $161.00 - $184.00 a Gal. Depending

I'm opting for Y6!
I just can't let a color like Y4 ever be put into or shot out of my paint gun!......Never!!!!!

Later I'll add the custom shtuff on top for shows next year.:blob:
When I get done with all this, I can pack Daisy and get ready for the Sat morn run to Indy!!:cheers:

Did you figger out the problems with the Ranger?
Later we'll remove the front bumper, cut down the bumper shocks and reweld them 1" shorter to snug the bumper up next to the body

On my 73, I thought I had the same setup, with a shock absorber. What I have are just regular bumper brackets that bolt to the frame, that just make the bumper stick out further. I pulled the bumper off today and I am going to slot the attachment holes or relocate them so I can move the bumper inward.
If no rain will mask in AM, shoot AM- Noon, mad dash into barn, rain by tomorrow night.

If ya paint it the original color tho, that keeps your options open of everything still being the same color (jambs, underhood, trunk). If ya had to peddle it, you wouldn't have to do anything. But if you know you will be keeping it, then do what you want!

Hey 64Dart, could you do me a favor? Would you measure the length of that rocker panel molding? I was wondering the entire length and the length from one screw hole to the other hole. Also the distance from the hole to the end. Thanks for the info.

LOL that's what I call working with whatcha got at it's finest! If ya paint it the original color tho, that keeps your options open of everything still being the same color (jambs, underhood, trunk). If ya had to peddle it, you wouldn't have to do anything. But if you know you will be keeping it, then do what you want!

I have learned the hard way. A 4 door will sell at $2500.00 nice daily driver little rust to show 4 Door with no rust, no matter /6 or 318, custom or stock. Door jambs painted or not. A clean 4door with custom paint non stock color? Same price but will sell alot faster. The gold I'm choosing has a tint very close to Fawn Crap Y4. Both ABB and I absolutly HATE that color!!!
The Y6 Gold Irid. will tone down after shooting. The last 2 coats I will be mixing small amounts of gold micro flakes. It will look like a metalic Fawn with a golden glow (Neon Like) as a base. When turning a corner in sun it will flicker like a ranger bass boat! LOL...When ya get right on it even in the sun 6 feet or less away, you will only see a scattering of flake sparkling from sun but you will not be able to see as many standing there as when the car is going past you in motion. Standing there it will be a sparkle here and there with a warm gold glow from underneath.
Then in summer, wet sand roof/sailpanels, top of hood and trunk. Then shoot eggshell W1 oversprayed over tropical leaves from plants, flower cut outs resembeling Hawaii flowers. It will be white with golden tropical surf theme showing through the eggshell. The 1st coat clear with gold micro mixed in on top of entire car white and all. Then 2 more clear only dumped into gun with micro still in gun on 1st one. Then clean gun. Then 2nd coat clear only.

Keep in mind too, our 69 spear moldings were not as wide as the 74 and the earlier ones had a sharper point too.
I'll get on it after the paint tomorrow once we are back in the barn with the car to dry.

The 70's SE versions were like 2 or 3" wide!! LOL!
