Jehovah's Witnesses

The last time they came to my neighborhood, I saw them unloading down the street. I chalked out a body outline & had some crime scene tape that the local police had left after investigating a drug related shooting a few weeks back. After outlining my body, I spread catsup all over the porch & wrapped the crime scene tape around the porch, smeared some over my face & watched them with the open curtains as the walked up the drive. They saw the tape, the catsup, & me standing in the window, I haven't seen hide, nor hair of them since & that was twenty years ago.

No, they don't.

The Watchtower Bible isn't the same.
They don't use the watchtower Bible... Get your opinions straight... Look it up.. I don't have a problem of any religion.. it's just when people that don't know religion start talking about religion... I've studied them all and my belief now is organized religion is corrupt.. I'll be judged when and if I get to another place

Ok. So what and who's religion does one believe in? The few? Or the many? The road is narrow and few will follow

I can't remember if it was Mormons or JW's, but I kept them going for a couple of hours or better. I was at a nice farm house with great barns and outbuildings and fancy equiptment. When they found out I didn't own the 500 acre farm but was just renting while I built my own new house, they packed their crap and walked out.

Correct me if iam wrong but I believe mormons created, The Book of Mormon.

I get the Jahovies, the Morons and the Baptits here.
Also get some new wave church that's wants to hand me a bottle of water, a candy bar or some other crap.
The worst is the baptists, they come with their hands stuck out.
Wish they would all go "f" themselves.

You mean like the opinion they use the same Bible as Protestants? Or Catholics? That opinion?

I have the New World Translation. It's published by the Watchtower, just like all the pamphlets they hand out.

Exactly. I already posted the FACTS but some are professionals at arguing.

They had to write their own bible to fit their doctrine. Same reason why the Catholics have their own bible and they smoke all the Protestants by getting them to use the NASB or the NKJV.

I use to be bothered by JW, Baptist, Mormons, junkers wanting to know if the old Mopar parts cars I have on the property are for sale. But I found the best cure ever! Since I fenced in 3 acres with 5' chain link fence and a automatic gate, I haven't been bothered since!

They hit my house about once a month. I'm friendly, polite and hospitable. I ask them how their day is going, we talk about yard work, the owls nesting in my tree, the corn field across the street, their children's school work, or whatever comes to mind. I find them to be nice decent people and I let them know that they're welcome any time.

I guess you can imagine my hesitation about entering this conversation, as one of Jehovahs Witnesses myself. ..Have been for most of my adult life. And I gotta say, it blows me away how much mis-information and mis-conceptions there are about what we believe!

I don't really think this is the best 'platform' for having the conversation, but I'm certainly willing to talk about it with anyone wanting to know more about us, and what we believe. But in a nutshell, here are some things that we believe..

God created Adam & Eve to live forever in a perfect paradise with perfect health, right here on Earth. They sinned (disobediently ate from the tree, showing that they were not willing to live within the limits of their freedom), lost their perfection, grew old and died. As their descendants, we inherited sin. We simply cannot live up to Gods requirements.

God sent his only begotten son, Jesus, to Earth as a perfect man to offer him up as a sacrifice for our sins (which we inherited from Adam & Eve) and Jesus willingly did so. Those were the two greatest acts of love ever performed since the history of man!

As a result of the sacrifice, we all have not only the means to approach God (with Jesus as our mediator), but the forgiveness of sin.

God made man in his image, but also gave all of us free will. We can all use our lives however we choose! He allows us to use our free will to worship him or not!

The Bible is the most widely published book in the history of the world. It has been the target of enemies of God wanting to destroy it. But it has survived down to this day, simply because it is the word of God and he wants it preserved.

As Jehovahs Witnesses, we believe strongly that it is important to treat the Bible, Gods word, as the ultimate authority. And even though it was written centuries ago by scores of men living in different time periods, the Bible is always accurate, with no contradictions. And when scrutinized by scientists, who may be non-believers, the Bible is in perfect harmony with modern science (even though the Bible is not a science book).

We don't have our "own Bible". We do, though, have the publishing rights to the "New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures". It has had PLENTY of scrutiny by people from all walks of life. But the bottom line is this: it has been proven by Bible scholars and linguists to be the most accurate translation of the Holy Bible, and its written in our modern language! And we don't have a problem with anyone else using the Bible of their choice. The Truth of Gods word can still be found, even if you're more comfortable using the King James Version, for example, with its olde English "thee's and thy's", and other somewhat unfamiliar terminology.

Gods purpose for man has not changed since Adam and Eve. He intended for man to live forever on Earth with perfect health! That's still Gods purpose! Jesus is ruling in Heaven, waiting for the command from God to unleash his power against this wicked system of things and destroy all those destroying the Earth! This is what's referred to in the Bible as Armageddon. And contrary to what some may think, this is a selective war; it's not the "end of the world" or the end of mankind! God will simply wipe out anyone that does not want to be ruled by God! The "meek will inherit the Earth" and live forever on it, just as was his original purpose for mankind!

It's entitled "Why study the Bible?" This is from our official website, jw.org, you may be very surprised at what you hear!

And just to alleviate any concerns, I'm not particularly offended by anything that anyone has said in the previous comments! Like I said, there has been lots of misconceptions about what we believe. BTW, here's a picture of my engine bay, got lots of advice and help from the forums, and bought quite a few parts to get this far along:

Until JW's recognize Christ and God in the flesh, it's just another false, man made religion. Sorry, truth is truth.

The other thing is the NWT. When compared to the Textus Receptus, it is wrong on many levels. Don't know who the "scholars" are you are saying the NWT is the most accurate bible, but it isn't.

The FACT is the Protestant reformation was founded on the Textus Receptus, which is where the KJV of the bible comes from. It doesn't matter what language it's published in, it reads the same. Huss used the TR, so did Luther and the rest of the reformation.

It's not wonder so many people have no interest in the stuff. First, they don't want to do the work. The second issue is we all have to read from the same book. We don't need any other translations. You can only dumb down the Scriptures so much before you dumb down the reader. BTW, the KJV of the bible is considered one the BEST works of English literature there is.

And last, we need way less college educated, seminary indoctrinated fools in the pulpits. Most people I know won't question a seminary fool on anything. Read for yourself.

One last thing. I have maybe, MAYBE and 9th grade education. I can understand the KJV of the bible. I don't need a college educated, seminary indoctrinated knave to read plain English to me.

The most simple way to weed out the posers is read the prophecies and then compare them to what your denomination reached. There is no seven years of tribulation, no rapture none of that crapola. If they can't get that right, what else do they get wrong?

One came a knockin and I told them I was Lutheran. He smiled and started rippin off scripture about how God and Jesus are different, as in there is no Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Ghost) ever quoted in the bible. He asked how Stephen looked up into heaven and saw that Jesus could be seen sitting at the right hand of the father (Acts 7:55)..He asked how that could be? I replied "Matthew 19:26 '....with God all things are possible.' " I then told him I wasn't up on the scripture and kinda feel like I got a knife in a gunfight so I told him I would think about it. He parted with a handshake and said "That's all that I ask."

Winter wrote: “The translation by the anonymous committee is thoroughly up-to-date and consistently accurate.”—The Classical Journal, April-May 1974, page 376.

  • Professor Benjamin Kedar, a Hebrew scholar in Israel, said in 1989: “In my linguistic research in connection with the Hebrew Bible and translations, I often refer to the English edition of what is known as the New World Translation. In so doing, I find my feeling repeatedly confirmed that this work reflects an honest endeavor to achieve an understanding of the text that is as accurate as possible.”

  • Based on his analysis of nine major English translations, Jason David BeDuhn, associate professor of religious studies, wrote: “The NW [New World Translation] emerges as the most accurate of the translations compared.” Although the general public and many Bible scholars assume that the differences in the New World Translation are the result of religious bias on the part of its translators, BeDuhn stated: “Most of the differences are due to the greater accuracy of the NW as a literal, conservative translation of the original expressions of the New Testament writers.”—Truth in Translation, pages 163, 165.

I guess I could waste my time and hunt down who these people are, but who really cares? I can quote many so called catholic scholars who would want me the believe the vulgate is the most accurate bible.

If you can't read it for yourself and get it, I don't know what to say.

But, here's the deal. The KJV was translated by some of the best scholars in history. Verified many times and where there was a question as to wording, there is a marginal reference.

What are you to do when the KJV doesn't line up with your NWT? Again, the Reformation was founded on and completed by the KJV of the bible and that bible changed the world. The NWT can't even change my mind.

Ok, so I looked up your first scholar. All I can find is he was a college professor, probably a JW himself and the only thing I see is he quotes Wescott and Hort, the 2 single biggest frauds in the history of the entire world.

That took me all of 5 minutes. Every good Protestant should know who Wescott and Hort are, and what despicable polecats they were.

Guy number two is a Slovak Jew, and if he is a real Jew, he thinks that a gentile can't teach the bible without a Jew present.

If he is a Jew, he doesn't believe in Christ as God. So obviously he would think the NWT a good one.

Another 5 minutes gone.

The third "scholar" you quote is a follower of a man who denied the diety of Christ. Again, it doesn't take long to flesh this stuff out.

I'm not saying any of this to offend you. Just pointing out how weak your case is.

I could type out many pages of things in my own hand, without quoting any seminary skunk but would it change your mind?

Check out Marcion of Sinope
A first year bible student can see how wrong this man was. Again, denying the Diety of Christ is his first issue.

So we start with a basic question or two.

Who, in the garden, bent down and formed man from the dust of the ground? Who, in the garden, breathed into that man the breath of life?

When you can answer that (and it wasn't the Father) you'll be on your way.

Well, that would have been Jesus, Gods son, the first of his creation, as is shown at Colossians 1:15 "He is the image of the invisible God,+ the firstborn of all creation;+ 16 because by means of him all other things were created in the heavens and on the earth, the things visible and the things invisible,+ whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All other things have been created through him+ and for him. 17 Also, he is before all other things,+ and by means of him all other things were made to exist"

Also 1Corinthians 8: "there is actually to us one God,+ the Father,+ from whom all things are and we for him;+ and there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things are+ and we through him."

Now, for you. Here is something else that is essential to understanding the Bible. The Scriptures have one overall theme, running from Genesis thru Revelation. Can you tell me what that 'theme' is?

[hint... the Lords Prayer]

[answer]:

The Scriptures have one overall theme: the vindication of God’s right to rule humankind by means of his heavenly Kingdom. This theme is a common thread running from Genesis to Revelation!
