I just came back from a week long trip to see my parents. Mom turned 80 & with pop, both celebrating there 60th wedding anniversary they surprised me by renewing there vows.

One of the few thing’s about moving to Florida is the inability to grab a good bagel. (A good deli for Hero’s/Hogies/Sandwiches on a KAISER ROLL & Pizza, not to mention a good take out food, (the Chinese food here completely sucks ***) is also on that list.) While on Long Island, I grabbed a dozen to make myself and family a little happy.

For us that eat breakfast…… my son made himself a Ham, Bacon, egg and cheddar on a toasted salted bagel.

I just had a buttered cinnamon French toast flavored bagel and coffee. (Caw-Fe- LOL!)
Yea buddy! Ummmmmmmmmm

looks good!!!!

Man that looks so tasty!

I can't eat like that anymore. In my prime I could probably finish off 3 or 4 or those.

Now it's boring. Two Good vanilla yogurt mixed with vanilla whey protein, roasted almonds, roasted sunflower seeds (I roast my own nuts and seeds), muesli, omega-3 trail mix, and fresh blueberries mixed in my bowl. I top it off with an avocado. I've come to crave this concoction each morning.

I'll eat pretty much any of the southern staples as long as it's a LOT. I've always been a believer in eating a BIG breakfast. Grits need to be involved.

Ya gotta realize bagels are Yankee food! For us Southerners, eating a bagel is like trying to eat a deflated football!!
Cheesy grits, soft scrambled eggs with picante. breakfast sausage or bacon, toast made from real bread! Homemade jelly, maybe fig or plum.

Grits lol, I guess I've never had real grits. They call it grits at the breakfast chains. It's a white mush.

Congrats to M & D!

Is that a Breakfast Dagwood?:)

More of the over easy for me.....

A Yankee refers to the baseball team in NYC
As far as I'm concerned the term Yankees means New Englanders
Bagels outside of NYC and surrounding area usually are imitations of the real thing
Bagel makers guard their recipes but it has to do with the water, we have some of the best drinking water in the country which contributes to great Italian bread, rolls and bagels
I will say I had some great tasting local baked bread in Denver, again its the water

A two or three egg omelette with cheese and some crumbled bacon, topped with some hot sauce, with two more pieces of bacon on the side. Cooked in the bacon grease, tastes amazing.

I am with RRR on this one, being from Arkansas I can’t even spell bagel? I had no idea it was a breakfast food! Ifun ya can’t cook it in cast iron it likely ain’t breakfast! Grits, gravy, biscuits, hash, eggs and fresh berries for the win!

If a heart doc does not call it a heart bomb, then it probably ain't breakfast!!! Or eat some good ripe cantelope to counter it!!!
I left off the home made buttermilk biscuits. If jelly and jams aren't homemade, then it did not happen! Mayhaw!!!! rules. Pear, fig, will do!

So fundamentally you boys up North just use a bagel like we use a biscuit? Same thing only different? Your picture looks good enough I am going to try it. Looks yummy! Not sure where to buy a bagel tho?

.

Hey everybody!

I had to stop read your replies and Luke for a little while when I read this A holes reply.

1st! Yankee? Really? You gotta be kidding me.
2: A Yankee food? Repeat the above.

Still dividing the world?

Smart men see people as one.
Dumb people divide up what they see into sub categories .
But the next lines are the most telling of
“stupidity stupendous!”

As you! Said us southerners, not I but you!
But this is about you period.

You don’t know what a real bagel is because a real bagel is not hard through and through but just a crisp shell surrounding a beautiful soft semi airy bread inside.

What every northerner as you term us, regulate your deflated football description to is your best bagel because normally we play hockey with what is normally available here. They make excellent pucks for beginners and seasoned players alike.

With lots of research, you'll discover that it's most of the chemicals and preservatives that cause the heart issues. Plus, Kitty cooks everything in extra virgin olive oil in the air fryer. She makes some mean home made hash browns. We also use uncured and unprocessed meats. None of the nitrites and nitrates that come with the processed stuff. Brown eggs from a local farm are a must! You can still eat what you want and eat healthy if you try! I caint remember the last time I had a soft drink was. Well over 90% of what I drink is well water. We don't use sugar at all and we read labels religiously.

Sometimes yes. Normally for me I just like butter or cream cheese, sometime toasted.
Bagel is what those motels serve for breakfast!!:poke::realcrazy:
It is a rare day that I had anything even close to what would resemble a bagel from any place that rents rooms from roach motels to high end hotels in D.C. or the Vegas strip.

Clearly you have no clue on anything

Not exactly true. What you cook with and what your cooking and how it’s done is more of an issue that what you thought it to be.

The chemicals and preservatives are things that I’d like to remove from my food personally. The chemicals and preservatives along with modified foods and injected meats are a much bigger problem than many think in adding on and keeping the body fat and from loosing it. Clogging up the heart and polluting the brain.

Fact Jack! Organic non modified food is best but it still can be cooked health or crappy for your body.

I was just re thinking the reply I left. I’d say if you can find a bagel you like, then yes! Go for it. If not, another typical bread for breakfast in and around the NYC area is a Kaiser roll. Of which I have found at Sams club. Which is poorly baked. A very big disappointment. Very dense and hard to bite into, very very dense bread. A total opposite of NYC & area Kaiser rolls. There often seen with poppy seeds on top.

I myself am OK with biscuits but preferably like a corn bread with a slab of butter melting in between. The wife can’t stand them. It’s often two for me as she slides hers over.

Oatmeal
Cream of wheat
Pancakes
French toast
Chocolate or vanilla or strawberry milkshake
Bacon
Scrambled eggs or omlet
Chicken fried steak

with family

Growing up, grandad always used to say

Eat breakfast like an emperor

Lunch like a king

And dinner like a prince

Breakfast, I like my eggs scrambled. Turkey bacon or Turkey sausage. I like chicken sausage too if it's available. Wheat toast. It's sad that restaurants only serve slop pork bacon and sausage. Pork is unhealthy for people to eat, remember pigs will eat anything and what they eat you eat if you're eating pork. We haven't had pork in 17 years. Can't even find a hamburger pizza in the stores anymore it's all that pork slop. Pepperoni is pork too. Just my 2 cents worth.

remember pigs will eat anything
And they eat a staggering amount of grain, corn, soy, wheat. I'm in the heart of pork country, and after working at a food processing facility and where I currently work with grains, most of our byproduct "animal feed", goes to pig farms. But yeah, they will eat anything, including the pig that falls over dead next to them.
