Heck girl, yall got enough room to square off a corner and build you a bathroom.

oh no, I'm not giving up room for a bathroom! I don't mind the walk, besides we don't have sewer out there:(

I really do miss a bathroom, I have to walk up to the house to go~ guys just walk behind the shop!
My wife is a country girl, she learned to squat behind the barns, decades ago!! But she explains as she gets "older "sometimes there is not time to walk to the house!!

Plus, gettin back up from squattin ain't as easy as it used to be.

Seems like it just takes forever to get parts, but installed the casting plugs. Tomorrow I should be able to re-install the intake/exhaust, oh, pressure test the cooling system first to check for leaks. If it's not too cold, start it again. I'm hoping for a non-leaking oil pan! However, the temps are supposed to drop dramatically for our area:(

I think I'm pretty much done except for tiny things, maybe recheck the valve adjustments and there is a louder ticking I hear. It sounds so good, much better in person, I owe so much to everyone here and especially Halfafish for guiding me in the beginning of the build and putting up with me on the telephone; stuff I didn't know about degreeing the cam, and much more, but I couldn't have had a decent running engine without all of you :thankyou: :thankyou:

That sounds REALLY snappy!

A nice little bundle of parts, takes up a lot less room when all put together~ I've just been cleaning the shop;)

Sounds like a winner!!!!
Is that little ticking maybe the flap on the exhaust manifold??
But, I am 3/4 deaf anyway.
Watch out for ice, maybe!!

I'm sure it is a rocker arm, I was going to ask about the heat riser, I guess it's doing what it's supposed to do?

I have had them rusted plum shut..not good.
If working, it will open up and not flap and make noise.
I admit I usually weld them open and call it done.

I'm amazed how freely it works~ guess I'll just leave it be :thankyou:

I take a long screw driver, press the handle up to my ear and the business end to places I want to listen to -- like a stethoscope. It helps isolate ticking noises.

Just to let you guys know I'm still here  I've been cleaning my shop, the recent ice age hasn't helped make me any progress.

I hadn't mentioned it, but the roof was apparently pushed in by something or someone but it's where it's supposed to be (like someone stood on it), but is weak in the right front top, meaning it can be pushed down with minimal effort. I can sand it with my air sander and does ok. I had removed 2 the inner upper roof supports and recurved them, then reinstalled and that helped a great deal, but the one I mentioned is still weak. I was thinking to buy another roof support from SOMEBODY, weld it in, etc. So, that's kind of my idea. It's only held in by a measly welds and easy to get out. The body work is just fix things, sand and repeat.
Other than that, kids/grandkids coming in this weekend for my #70 birthday, hopefully Monday I can get back to play

these supports were down a few inches, as said, remove, repair, re-install.

Happy Birthday! You must have been high school class of 73. :) Is the spot that gives an oil can type dent? If so, you might be able to heat it and shrink it with a wet rag applied bottom and top when you pull the heat away. If a top has ever gotten stretched to where it does that, you gotta shrink it back to where it will sit still. If I remember right, those metal bow braces you were talking about have some type of material between them and the roof skin. Cardboard or thin fiberboard maybe? @RAT ROD AL is parting an early A Dart if you end up needing one.
