Figured id share my garbage..

Suppose an update here won’t hurt. Almost bare block on a stand? Yep. I hurt it. Not sure how bad, but it blue smokes good out the fender exit, can’t even light the turbo off foot braking it anymore, coolant is black and it misses pretty bad. Roll the coals to it and it’ll run half decent for a bit. ASSuming I got a couple ring lands. Gonna slowly put this together. Little more compression, but mainly stronger parts than the factory cast garbage.

That really sucks that you hurt it, but all the hard parts of your build are already complete! I bet you’ll enjoy the car much more with some forged components and subsequent stress relief.

I knew it was getting tired and it was basically self inflicted at this point so I can’t be upset by it. Definitely going to be peace of mind having better parts in it.

Every time I see a simple turbo big block I want to build one, I am too dumb for boost though. I truly believe that lol

Where’s that big red X?
Boost is easy. Get out and do it. You ain’t too dumb.

Okay, I'll get my junk finished and then I'll have some extra cash maybe. I'll give it a shot, I will need to talk to you on the phone for hours though.

Dropped the block off December 7th, it was done on the 12th and never got a call. Picked it up last Saturday. Brushed some hemi orange on it and knocked the freeze plugs in it. Need to order main and rod bearings and start putting it together.

As a bonus. My dad cruised over in with his real 383 67 barracuda to hang out. Always a good time.

The block looks great! What are your plans for internals?

I imagine that bottom end and pistons will take you as far as the block allows

What does Steve Morris say?
Boost fixes everything. Or it breaks everything. Either way it's cool.

Something like that. But I am enjoying the build. Keep up the good work.

Thank you sir. I’m slowly chipping away at it, and the 4 speed conversion for the duster. Too many irons in the fire sometimes

So, basically what started years ago with "wonder how much abuse itll take" and me beating on my NA smogger 440, its not somehow grown into a stealth headed, single billet 80mm (T6 divided, 1.32ar) vs racing turbo.

Basic run down from top to bottom: Dual needle and seat CSU 850, swap meet special 60 dollar team G manifold, OOTB stealth heads (didnt even really look at them, just threw copper spray on the cometics and slapped them on) completely stock bottom end '74 440, I didnt gap the rings, I half checked a rod bearing when I did the rear main seal, and its got a .509 cam stabbed in it. I had a cam ground for the combo, but let's face it, ill never install it. Stainless 2.5" hotside (didnt go 3" to keep the velocity up since its a foot brake street car) then the nice topper is a 4" fender dump. Im "that guy" and thatll probably never change. Plan is pump e85, start off around 10-12psi and cross my fingers with it.

A true, untouched low mileage short block that got fogged street hemi orange.

Great build! I just got a '72 Duster and a low compression forged piston 383. It makes sense to add boost so I started looking at other builds.

I skimmed the 13 pages of this topic but didn't see this question.

How difficult was it to install the headers?

Did you have to modify the headers to fit?

It looks like these have no trouble fitting under the hood.

And are these the headers you got?

Thanks in advance

My headers were a direct bolt in. The rest of the hotside was fabricated for the car. They aren’t the eBay headers although they look similar. The guy that built them is no longer building them last I checked. The eBay ones to my knowledge need to be modified to fit.
