70 Dart stock tank, adjustable module for ohms output, after market 3/8 fuel pick up/stainless braided line to carb, 750 double pumper, pressure regulator, incidentally I have read that Holley’s
Like 5-7 lbs of pressure, does that sound right. I am looking at a Speedmaster @140 gph. I was hoping that some one here had/is using
One and what the outcome is?? This one is $60 and that makes me suspicious. I know I get what I pay for. An equivalent Holley is $140, am I being too cheap??

I had a paxton 150 gph that i really liked, when it was working. The trouble was, if it sat for a few weeks it would lose prime, and i had to crack the inlet line to get prime back.
I replaced it with a trick flow 140gph with a regulator, very happy with it, somewhere around $120 for both.
My very favorite is a mallory 250 gerotor, but it is a LOT of money now. Gerotor is MUCH preferred to vane style... but none of them are cheap.
As for the speedmaster, it will probably work.... for a while. How LONG it will work is the gamble. How do you do in vegas?
Long way around of saying...i would spend a little more money.

vane style can get mucked up over sitting. The vanes get stuck and prevent the electric motor from even starting. I bought a pair of Mercedes 560SEC pumps for nothing as they were both stuck. 18V applied about 10 times and some WD40 freed them right up. So many EFI boats out there getting new fuel pumps when theirs are found to be locked up after the winter. A boater I know knew a young man who was smart enough to advertise "boat starting service" for the marina he lived next to. He would start stored boats on a sliding scale once a week or month for 5-30 minutes (or just cycle the pumps) for a small fee. He got so many customers that he had to hire 2 other guys. Dont know what type of liability insurance he had but that would be tough today...running a boat without oil or something...

You can find the Mallory 250 pump fairly reasonable used if you look. I just paid a buck fifty for one. I’ll put a 65 dollar kit in it. That’s not bad for that pump.

if your super cheap and are up for a challenge, junk yard ABS pumps are gerotors but put out about 1000 psi (in a 3/16 line with 100% load) but very small volume. if you run a return it wont be an issue in a big 5/16 or 3/8 return.

Great idea !!! I think what I will do is buy two speed masters it’s like a buy one get one.!! I’ll use one and stash the other one in case I break down in bum f..k Egypt (LOL) I will also put in another regulator and average the numbers between the two.
Thanks guys I am extremely happy about being a FABO member I have gotten great deals, tapped into a smorgasbord of information. With 50k members times 1 year that’s 50,000
Years experience or 136 years !!!!!Almost forgot I’ve had member give me free parts
, tons of parts and even help me work on my Hemi ev2 orange. Thanks so much

I bought mine decades ago at a Super Shops warehouse sale. It was a reman, and dirt cheap, maybe $40. Sat on my shelf for ten years, then entirely dependable for 15 years in my bracket car.
As a matter of fact, im still using the reman mallory ignition box and coil i bought at the same sale.

I bought a set of the speedmaster bare aluminum small block heads. I havent had my machinest look at em yet. He has done some SBC speedmaster heads. He said those were decent for the money. Basically Edelbrock copies, and the guides are typically junk from the get go. He replaces them with better ones before he even starts. That being said, it's a lump of aluminum. Kinda hard to screw that up. And once my machinest goes through it all, it's all good. As far as fuel pump though, thats a gamble. Lots of little pieces that have to be just right, and right from the get go.

I suppose a person could buy two of the cheap pumps and mount them in parallel with separate switches. Run one pump and if it were to fail at some point, switch over to the other. Redundancy rocks sometimes.

Just like aviation.

Probably about as good as any of the rest of the Speedmaster stuff.

Outstanding idea I should have thought is as a helicopter pilot. I could engineer it so that I could bypass the one that pukes. At night trying to mount the new pump in a harsh storm would be a royal *****. Redundancy rocks.
Thank you,

I am assuming that the use of a 750 carb means the engine output would be 500 hp max, probably less. The pump should be sized for the expected HP. Putting a 2000 hp pump on a 500 hp will probably only guarantee one thing: shorter pump life because of all the bypassing the pump will have to do.
A 500 hp engine with correct A/F ratio consumes about 42 gph. The Carter 460X pumps are the most reliable stand alone, external mount pumps, made. More than enough. If the engine makes closer to 400 hp, the Carter 4594 is the best choice, lower output, same reliable design. They are also quite cheap, but not cheap in quality. The simple design eliminates a lot of seals that other brands require which I guess contributes to the cheaper price...
