63 Dodge Dart, now let me see;)

unless you'll be tightening to a higher torque the stock bolts will be fine. even with stock bolts i usually add 5-10 lb's to most head bolts in iron blocks. it's not like you're adding boost after all.
neil.

Got a little bit painted, primed, painted. The color comes out lighter in the pics vs reality, guess it's the metallic. I may paint the engine bay matt black, meh, but there will be contrasting colors, like an aluminum valve cover in matt black, or not. The super six decal is just laying on the lid. The sage green metallic is a very pretty color and sprayed nicely over the ppg shopline primer. Should be an interesting engine bay;)

Just a couple more pics, just having a little fun, enjoying the moment;)

The carburetor which came with this Super Six is pretty nasty, but a question I pose is what carburetor do I run since the increase in compression(9:1). Or would just a stock carburetor suffice and rejet (something I hadn't played with).

Your stock BBD should work just fine. Bumping the compression a bit isn't going to affect the carb. If you get into the rebuild and find out you need any missing or broken parts let me know. I have a box full of BBD cores that could donate to the cause.

That's a cool engine color, BTW. Did I mention I need to send you my car for a makeover?

Well heckfire, just bring it over and I'll fix ya up!

I know a little bit, but I just can't come up with what BBD means! :realcrazy:
BBD= double barrel carburetor
BBD= big block dope
:rofl:

Well BBD is Carter's shorthand for their 2-barrel carb. A BBS is their 1-barrel. I think there is a better explanation but it is eluding me at the moment. CRS at its finest!

That is a darned good answer! Well, I don't need it right now, but I see there's a bunch of carburetors on ebay. I heard/read that the choke rod which comes from the exhaust manifold isn't very good and that an electric choke would be better~ meh, we'll get to that much later;)

Thank you;) On ebay, there are quite a few carburetors~ so I can put my mind at ease and buy one later;)

I don't think I've been so frustrated in a long time; If I were to do this over again, I know I could assemble in half the time. In the pics is the way I was able to "juggle" the back casing with my small crane, or as I call it, my little mule, actually is just a Hoyer lift as used in patient care. It balanced almost perfectly and for me that was the trick, Brains over Brawn. It's always a worry about the needle bearings, but it's just a matter of faith I suppose. Now waiting for 66fs to come through with the shifter/linkage~ .
Oh, got my gasket set for the engine, I'll start that tomorrow, just need to spend some time with Gary~ the garage is a black hole for time consumption, but how I love it so;)

The Carter BBS and BBD were progressions of a single-throat carburetor made by a company named Ball & Ball. When Carter developed those two carburetors, they were named for their heritage:

BBS = Ball & Ball, Single venturi
BBD = Ball & Ball, Dual venturi

If you're ever interrogated by the CIA about Carter carburetors, these should help as well:

WCFB = Will Carter Four Barrel (the first four-barrel carburetor)
AFB = Aluminum Four Barrel (so named because the WCFB had a cast-iron base)
AVS = Air Valve Secondary
ThermoQuad = So named because its phenolic bowl keeps fuel up to 15°F cooler compared to other carbs. Originally designed and sold as a racing carb.

I may paint the engine bay matt black, meh
Please don't.

Don’t worry about the color idea, it will be the same color as the car;). Thanks for the explanation;)

This shifter assembly is coming to me from 66fs soon;) :thumbsup:
With the phenomenal help from advice, opinions, and especially much needed parts, my project is moving along nicely!!

re the engine bay, unless the car's going black i'd keep quiet about doing the bay black on here. you'll get hung, drawn and quartered if the wrong people hear about it, lol.
mopar people seem (no offence) more anal about what's right or wrong on mopars than any other brand, lol. they're not scared to tell you either.
neil.

^^^^I guess "us" Mopar people 99% of the time paint the engine compartment body color is because factory did, and it is just as easy to do as paint it black, white or purple or pink etc.
A lot of hobbiest will always say, its your car, do it as you like.

First off, no worries as to what the engine compartment will be, it will be the color of the car. I don't know what got into me;)

Today played with installing pistons, I come up with 9.32:1, depends on which calculator I use. I'll put the head on tomorrow and see if I need shorter pushrods. ok, got to go;)
the cc's of the head combustion chamber originally was 63cc and now 60cc

I pretty sure you are actually lower on compression than that, you have to account for how low the piston is below the deck.

Ok, I need a little help here, I'm confused on the cam/crank timing. Can I get the cam 180 out? If so, how do I figure it? this is really hurting my brain and I don't want to ruin a valve. Even though it's a non-interference engine (so I've read), still worries me, especially with the shaving of the head. Once I get that figured out, I'll remove the rocker assembly, and lube it up. Thanks
