Adding Pinion Angle Shims - Tell Me If This Sounds Correct, Please

Thank you for thoroughly reading my info and replying. I did measure it on the ouput yoke previously, as stated. Now the driveshaft is in and a test drive felt good. There is definitely no shortage of opinions. Still ready to make changes, if needed. I aint cocky.

Adding Pinion Angle Shims - Tell Me If This Sounds Correct, Please

I always thought and have seen that the pan rails are parallel to the crankshaft, which is parallel to the trans output shaft. I've measured it from both the output shaft and the pan rails with the same readings. I don't think I'm totally dumb, but some of the responses here (not yours) sure...

Adding Pinion Angle Shims - Tell Me If This Sounds Correct, Please

Those measurements were in my first post. GV was 4.5-5 degrees down and pinion was 5 up with the angle finder. Isn't this what one would need in order to cancel each other out for the least vibration at under a full load? Because that's what I find from many sources. So then adding shims to...

Adding Pinion Angle Shims - Tell Me If This Sounds Correct, Please

Well, you know I'm a little stoopid, right? LOL I think I did a bad job of using the right words to explain my measurements. So I just raised the car back up with jack stands under the front and rear suspension and re-measured everything as it sits now with the 3 degree shims installed so that...

Adding Pinion Angle Shims - Tell Me If This Sounds Correct, Please

I believe you are not correct. If the trans is down X degrees, then the pinion needs to up the same amount of degrees under full load, to cancel each other out, from everything I have read.

Nice find! Those valve covers look just the ones I recently fixed up and painted to match my car. I also don't know who made them, but I like them a lot!

My Gear Vendors Install Thread - '67 Barracuda Notchback 340/416 Stroker

I got the rear pinion angle shims installed last night and then today I pulled out the lower back seat and carpet so I could get the driveshaft loop slid back further to where it needed to be with the shortened driveshaft. The driveshaft shop was able to knock it out for me Monday. That came to...

That's a really great compliment, Thanks so much. This car, to me, represents everything I have learned to do when it comes to cars. I have many years of blood, sweat & beers into it! Made some 1/2 aluminum blocks to shim my rearend back a little in order to center the larger tires (295/55/15 Drag Radials) in the wheel opening better. They were pretty tight to the front before. I replaced the stock spring hanger bolts with longer grade 8 bolts. I also flipped the spring...

Damn, guys. I feel for ya'll struggling with this. We have a ton of water on our property as well, but it's all still in areas that we don't need to use. Our house and shop are still probably 10 feet higher than the flooded areas, and we don't have a basement to worry about. Best wishes for...

Adding Pinion Angle Shims - Tell Me If This Sounds Correct, Please

This all sounds exactly like what I described (or tried to) in my original post, so I will go with the 3 degree shims as planned. Maybe my post was a little sketchy, but I thought I included all the details. My trans angle is basically down 5 and the pinion is up 5. 3 degree shims should bring...

Just finishing my install of a Gear Vendors Overdrive and checking my driveline angles to make sure I end up with the correct specs under load. First photo shows about 4.5 to 5 degrees down on the output of the overdrive and about 5 degrees up on the pinion angle. I ordered some 3 degree shims...

The overdrive is all bolted in and fits with adequate clearance. Best of all NO cutting and only minor dimpling to the tunnel in one area on the driver's side. Just gotta do the final electrical connections on the overdrive unit and speed sensor. Next up is to shim the rearend back 7/16"...

Well, my work schedule for today changed a little, so I made some more time to work on the Overdrive installation. I transferred the paper template to a thin cardboard (beer case) and took some more careful measurements with the centering rod and angle finder in place. I set it at a slightly...

Well, good news so far! I got the new Gear Vendors tailshaft in and test fit with the crossmember loosely in place and everything looks not too bad at all. The dash button switches it from auto to manual mode. In manual mode, you use the floor switch to engage/disengage the overdrive. In auto mode, it is switched on/off based on the rpm signal from the speedo sensor. In either auto or manual, the control module switches the overdrive off below a...
