1968 Plymouth Valiant First Gen HEMI

A quick update on the AC. I got the ducting run and although the heater hoses and AC lines have yet to be built/connected, I was able to test the unit and check for the volume of air that would come out of the vents. I’m very happy with the results. There’s good velocity coming out of the...

What Tire sizes are best for my 1969 Barracuda Fastback?

A little late, but I thought I'd throw this up here for what it's worth. You can get a general idea on a tires dimensions by going to any one of several sites on the internet including the tire stores. The sad truth is that while the dimensions are close they are not exact and can vary in...

1968 Plymouth Valiant First Gen HEMI

I’ve been working on the EPAS electric power steering. I had purchased their A Body unit a few months ago and the instructions and You Tube video for modifying the steering column and installing the unit seemed pretty straight forward. Also informative were a couple of the threads on the forums...

    Build Date from VIN?

Thanks A56, I'd kind of thought of that (I have a 1968 Valiant parts car with the data plate) but it was built in Los Angeles. I'm not use to the "newer" cars, but in the mid 50s, Mopar assigned blocks of vin numbers to the different assembly plants, I thought that probably held true into the 60s.

    Build Date from VIN?

".........can you ascertain the build date from the last 6 numbers of the VIN?......" I have the same question about my 68 Valiant. I just basically want to see if I can determine if mine was built before or after 1 Jan 68. According to the VIN the car was built at Hamtramck. When I bought...

    Got a rare project

I always had a soft spot for Fin Cars. A good source for information on them is www.forwardlook.net if you haven't already been there. As far as the transmission goes, the 318 (small block) and 440 (Big Block) have different bellhousing bolt patterns so they don't interchange. You’re going...

1968 Plymouth Valiant First Gen HEMI

It's still not going to be real cheap but I do like being able to tailor the system to the car. I'll likely have about what I'd pay for a Vintage Air (or similar) kit. Fortunately I'm able to do my own work which is where the real savings are. The cheapest way to go if the car had had a working...

1968 Plymouth Valiant First Gen HEMI

With the trunk taken care of my Grandson and I started on the Heater/AC install. Heat and AC are mandatory for this build and of course the Valiant had neither. After looking at various options I eventually settled on piecing together a system for the car. I already have a new Sanden 508...

    Vintage Air EZ Clips Opinions

Thanks for the information and link, something else for me to look in to. ".....if you don't have anyone local to compress beadlock fittings (my situation)....." Yeah that's kind of the situation I'm in too. The place I used to have them done at closed and the only other one in reasonable...

    Vintage Air EZ Clips Opinions

HI, just wondering if anyone has used Vintage Air's EZ Clips and hoses to make up AC lines and if so what their opinion of them is. E-Z Clip Universal Hose Kit There's also a couple videos on You Tube. I'm getting close to doing the AC on my Valiant and am looking at options.

1968 Plymouth Valiant First Gen HEMI

So back to the gas tank and trunk. This is the trunk/fuel cell I started with. As this will be a street car/daily driver I wanted to have a functional trunk with enough room for a full size spare tire, tool box, jack, tire changing tools, plus enough room for a suitcase or 2...

The 4.30s made it into the rear end housing a couple weekends ago and the rear end was buttoned back up. So progress I guess. https://flic.kr/p/2q5RCog]Z 4.30 by https://www.flickr.com/photos/153889607@N08/]M Patterson, on Flickr And then there was the ashtray. Both Valiants I...

Hi from Phoenix AZ! Picked up a non-running 1974 Plymouth Valiant Scamp

Nice score, and welcome. The factory AC is a nice plus and almost mandatory in Phoenix. The 134A conversion is pretty straight forward.

[Found!] 1968 Valiant dash ashtray and bracket

I'm looking for a 68 Valiant dash ashtray and bracket. Condition not really important as long as it's complete, usable and can be restored (no rust holes or dents).

    Darts former owner

Nice looking car. Hate to throw cold water on this, but even if you find the previous owner you may still hit a dead end. If the PO wasn’t the one who originally built the car, he may not know any more about it than you do. The guy I bought my 68 Valiant from was one of those people...

1968 Plymouth Valiant First Gen HEMI

Even late I appreciate the input. This is an odd ball swap so some things (like the torsion bars) are a best guess situation at this point……basically I won’t really know how it does till I can get some drive time on it. It is nice to know I can go with heavier bars if I feel the need (something...

We got the K members changed over. The BB K member now resides in the red car so that’s back to being a roller now and is about ready to be rolled out of the shop and put up for sale. https://flic.kr/p/2q1zR9k]z RC2 by https://www.flickr.com/photos/153889607@N08/]M Patterson, on...

1968 Plymouth Valiant First Gen HEMI

I found an intake……small world, but the guy I bought it from is the same one I got a 392 oil pan from last fall. He had a Wieand WC2QE which was the one produced before Holley bought out Weiand. He was more than fair on the price so we made a deal on it. As I figured, it’s the lowest of the 3...

Throwing my hat into the ring.

“…….it puts a smile on my face just knowing that I was a part of that generation that got to experience every thing Detroit had to offer and now, I get to live it one more time……..” Age wise we’re probably within a few years of each other and I know exactly what you mean. I started out working...

1968 Plymouth Valiant First Gen HEMI

“……I’ve got a Gen I 392 Hemi I want to build and stuff into my 75 Scamp. Mine will either be a full custom or mad max style, so I won’t be limited to the factory inner fenders, but this build will still give me a lot of ideas……” I think you’ll find it an “interesting” project. I know you’re...

“……..is this the brackets used for an A-body power brake booster? A friend did that on his 66 A-body and had issues that I believe he decided was related to the pedal ratio…….” “…..that could be when removing those brackets. i went to manual brakes on my 68 valiant, the pedal ratio was the...

With the transmission located we could start on the motor mounts and exhaust. I had 3 sets of factory manifolds (1 pair of 4 bolt flange truck manifolds, 2 pair of 55-56 manifolds) and a set of shorty headers. It eventually came down to a pair of the 55-56 manifolds. These are far from optimum...

1968 Plymouth Valiant First Gen HEMI

I tried not to completely waste the winter so I spent some time figuring out some things that I would normally do much later in the project. As I mentioned the car is being built to be a dependable long distance cruiser. That being said parts do fail. I’m going to be running an MSD 6A box on...
