    Help identify Engine

I think if you could see the rest of the emissions decal that rolls over the edge of the valve cover, you'd see the same info for the LA series of engines. Looks like a 360 to me with the size of the carb. Maybe a 318.

    Vibrations...

So sitting still it's fine. Only when the car is moving at speed there an issue? The following comes to mind: Something is up with the rear tires? The driveshaft is bent? Bad U-joint? Bad right side motor mount? Chock the front wheels and put the rear on jack stands, with the rear tires 2...

    5.9 360 Engine from a 2500 Ram for my 67 Dodge Dart

Buy a 4 barrel intake for the magnum motor, swap your carb and ignition on to it, maybe your current pulley/belt set up. And get the right oil pan. That would be your lowest cost option to get it back on the road.

    Oil Change Frequency

...ummm....splain sumthin Lucy...... if the oil sitting in the pan collects moisture all winter, and the acids rise to the top, why put new oil in to collect moisture/acid film over the winter? Let the old oil do it. If moisture and acid are that great of a concern, shouldn't you change the...

    Oil filter straight off block

We can run the same filter on Jake's 65 B'cuda 360/408 90* adapter, as I do straight to the block on my 318 Fury, and on the Shelby Dakota.....I'm at work so I can't get a measurement.

Too much engine work at once

Do it while it's apart. That way you don't have to take it half way apart again to do the cam next winter. Besides, the radiator is already out of the way....

    What will fit / work?

Magnum manifolds will fit with a little nip and tuck work.... And for what it's worth, our 318 block was a 1983 and the 360 we stroked is a 73. We used the original 273 thin mounts. There was 1 bolt hole issue we worked out. Now fitting the 727 in the tunnel was another story....

    What will fit / work?

We put a 318 in Jake's 65 when we built the car and have since moved up to a 360/408.... was a 273 car originally. No fitment issue .

    Rebuilt engine initial fiasco

When we fired Jake's 65 up for the 1st time with the 360/408, the filter adapter leaked as bad as your's did. Maybe worse. We used the 90* adapter from the 273. Had the gaskets in correctly. Discovered the center terms of the adapter was bottomed out on the center where the bolt goes thru and...

Critical error? or Don't worry about it?

So when you pull it back just enough on longer bolts, ya gotta hope the converter stays lined up on the front pump.... might as well unbolt it from the flex plate. Now you've jut about got the trans out.. just go ahead and pull it rather than fighting the dowels in such a small space, hoping...

    2176 help ASAP

Another option if you want to retain the pins to hold the gaskets in place, is to cut the pins down so they only stick out a quarter high as the gasket is thick.....just enough for the gasket to be held in place.

Is this an oddity or just Mopar weirdness?

So your 340 came out of a 70 Dart, but was built in Late 71 for an early 72 car..... sounds to me like a previous owner of the 70 did a motor swap sometime in the last 45 years or so..... was the 70 a real 340 car? Is it a warranty replacement from back in the day? Did a previous owner just...

    ATTENTION 318 owners: any interest???

So for grins and giggles, based on your baseline for Twoton above, where would my Fury end up expected to run after the penalty bow adjustments? I've never had it to the track, but the front end gets real light at 110mph. Here's my set up: 69 Fury III ragtop Stock numbers matching 318 bottom...

    318 problems

But he did... "The gear dropped back down and I've lined it up parallel to the cam" So he says. He needs to get #1 up on compression/TDC and then line it up and go from there.

    318 problems

The slot in the distributor drive gear doesn't go parallel to the cam. Bring #1 up on TDC/compression and the drive gear slot should point towards the front most intake bolt on the left side of the motor.

This is why you can't trust anyone to work on your car.

Few years ago I got new tires on my truck at Goodyear. Being raised by a mechanic I just knew they overtightened the lug nuts with the impact gun, so I figured I'd break them loose with a breaker bar before going anywhere else after I got it home. I was 1/2 right - the rears were way tight, but...

And that is exactly why we drilled Jake's bolt..... I found it odd that the motor had never been apart, had the drip tab, but had the wrong bolt. Motor is a 74.

    Timing chain drip leg?

Jake's 360 had both, but didn't have the hollowed out bolt to allow the oil to drip thru from the galley and down the tab.
