Help me buy an $80,000 car

Yeah, if it was THIS car: ....with this obviously unrestored underbody as shown here: ....then it would be no surprise that it was a turd.

Help me buy an $80,000 car

That blue '70 in the Hemmings ad: THAT is a nice looking car. I love B5 blue though....so much that I considered a color change for the red car. Instead, I bought Jigsaw and intend to paint it B5. For $60,000, that blue '70 looks like a much better car.

Help me buy an $80,000 car

...to point out with the green car, even more than the red one. Just a few offhand that may not matter to some but are not how the car was built: * Grille emblem read 500 but all 500s came with a taillight finish panel like so: Cars that had a VIN starting with XS29 were R/Ts. The XP29 were...

Help me buy an $80,000 car

Technically, there were no 1970 Daytona Chargers built. There is something amiss with that one.

Help me buy an $80,000 car

Some observations: * Aftermarket gauges hanging under the dash means the original gauges aren't working. * NO '70 Chargers came with a blacked out taillight panel, none. The '68 and 69s did, not the '70. * Several chips in the paint, misaligned body panels too. * The underside is unrestored and...

Help me buy an $80,000 car

I'll take a look. I don't aim to be a cheap bastard but the asking prices for these cars all seem to be unrealistic. If someone were to tell me that my car is worth $80,000, I'd shake my head at them. I don't know what it is actually worth but $80,000 seems pretty high. I'll look at the one you...

Help me buy an $80,000 car

Thank you. that is very kind. But I'm a lifer... I'm the type that finds what I like and then hold onto it. Thank you. With all the features and flaws, it still makes me smile every time that I look at it and drive it. As a car guy, it will never be "finished", I will always be...

    What Engine Is This?

That is funny. It feels like you're intentionally baiting me since it is not "Slitting hairs", The term you are using is actually called Splitting hairs. You seemed to miss that the first time around. Did I misinterpret that or are you now acting as if you understood it from the beginning?

    What Engine Is This?

The casting date of a part can be from the calendar year BEFORE the actual model year. It shouldn't be so hard for people to understand. Cars and parts are not "born". They are cast, forged, molded and assembled. This engine block was cast early enough to be for a legitimate early 1967 year...

@MrJLR....I found something I think is yours.

I just found it interesting that sometimes we find ourselves involved in stuff that we didn't actually participate in. For someone to use a picture of your car in a meme is flattering and a bit spooky. I've reposted memes I saw elsewhere and had some of the memes that I have made copied and...

"Idiot light" vs. Oil Pressure Gauge

Uhh, when new and under warranty.... When they were all stock and unmodified, sure. What goes wrong with an engine that is treated as a daily driver? (4 speed V8 cars not included) If I'm rowing through the gears with a performance build or driving some distance from home, I'd sure feel better...

I'm Cummins swapping a '74 Duster, thought I'd share the progress.

In a weird way, this idea makes me smile. The OP knows that it is weird and difficult but chooses to move forward with it anyway. There is a motivational poster that reads....Life begins outside of your comfort zone. With that in mind, ask yourself, does anyone cheer or remember the dudes that...

Any idea where I can find a spindle for my 1970 plymouth duster

Close. It is actually called a "knuckle". The spindle is the part the rotor rides on. Most people incorrectly refer to the whole thing as a spindle when in truth, the spindle is part of the knuckle. It is sort of like when people say cement when what they should have said is concrete. Cement...

I'm Cummins swapping a '74 Duster, thought I'd share the progress.

I'll be the one to state it. This is a terrible idea. You're installing an engine in a car that already has a 55/45 front weight bias and literally doubling the weight of the engine. The frame rails and structure were designed for the slant six or LA series engines that weighed 600 lbs or less...

"Idiot light" vs. Oil Pressure Gauge

A warning light is like being told you have a disease as you reach the point to need surgery. A gauge spots abnormalities before they become a bigger issue.
