    Steering Coupler Removal

Hard to tell if that is a factory coupler due to the grinding, but if it is, there is in fact a pin that is typically there. It typically just does not allow for the coupler to completely be removed, but there is forward/reverse free movement/slop, do you have that movement? You would typically...

I find it interesting that your coupler used a split pin. I am getting ready to pull the column out of the Barracuda and it used a bolt! The other 65 columns I've pulled all used a bolt to secure the coupler to the input shaft of the steering box.

    Power steering conversion

I just did this. it was super easy. The shafts are different length but tubes are the same. To switch shafts you have to- 1) Remove steering wheel from column 2) Unplug steering column wiring from under dash 3) at coupler you need to remove set pin at top of coupler, I used a small carpenter...

    Manual to power steer question

I need to point out that the OP asked if he had to "change the whole column to convert to PS?" NOW we're talking about using expensive aftermarket steering boxes, cutting the shaft and welding on u joints, modifying the crush sleeve (an inherent safety feature designed to keep the driver from...

    Steering Coupler Removal

I recently redid my coupler as well. I did not have the pin at the top however, the years of junk and gunk kept the column in the coupler very well. I would also recommend removing the column to give yourself more space to work. Also, it looks like your steering box and column weren't aligned...

    Steering coupler troubles

Had to remove the coupler from the ps box in order to install the manifold (too tight). I've aligned the coupler splines correctly, problem is it will not go far enough on the shaft to allow the pin install. Any guidance will be helpful, fighting with this for hours.

    steering coupler questions

As you might have seen I couldnt find my new rebuild kit the other night. I have found it and when I went to install the new parts I found that the original pin that goes thru the shaft had a diameter of .335 and the new one is .330. That means that the new pin wont be tight so I cant use it...

    Steering Column removal

Hope I'm not hijacking the thread here. I removed the column from my 73 Dart Sport, PS, auto on the floor. When I got the car, the coupler was trash. I replaced the missing lower bearing with the aftermarket bearing mentioned on a FABO post. Also rebuilt the coupler and got 3 new nylon sliders...

    Steering wheel telescopes but shouldn't

While replacing my ignition lock cylinder I noticed the steering column will pull out about a half inch if I pull aft on the wheel. The shaft comes aft with the wheel but the coupler stays in place. Here's the shaft fully pushed into the coupler: And here is the shaft pulled out by pulling...

    Steering Coupler Removal

Just a little recap on what I had to do in order to get it off. As far as I can tell I did not have the pin at the top. I ended up slicing it like a hotdog with the cutoff wheel in order to remove it. I didn't mind having to do it considering I am replacing it with the flaming river coupler...

    Steering u-joint

Yes, i run one on mine, for the same reason, and also because I could never get the retainer to stay put on the stock coupler. I replaced the bolt shown with a pin, but I noticed some play in it, so I will be putting in a roll pin instead.
