    Steering coupler drift pin question

Does anyone know what size the Steering coupler drift pin is? I had my column out and lost the pin. :BangHead: . Already had bought the kit and don't know what I did with the old one. I even had a spare kit somewhere but can't find that either. I think I swept it up last week not realizing I had...

[Found!] Power to manual steering adapter

An inexpensive option is buying a manual coupler and rebuild kit. Then just extend the shaft and pin in with a couple nylon screws.

I opened up the coupler. Couldn't even get the roll pin out. Basically pulled the box first.

    Steering coupler question

My service manual doesn’t show this very clearly at least for my slow brain. On the steering shaft from the car to the power steering box, is the picture attached showing the disconnect coupling? And is it held together by a roll pin?(hole left side.) Is this coupler bushing available anywhere...

    Borgeson or Firm Feel steering?

Oh and Bergman coupler uses a set screw vs a roll pin. So no more pounding pin in and out to remove coupler from steering box. Back set screw out pull coupler off steering box easy peasy pain free.

    67 Valiant question

If you're replacing the entire column, there is no need for that to come off? 3 bolts on floor, roll pin at coupler under hood, should be good? Oh and 3 under dash that bolt thru column support to dash.

    Steering coupler question

There are two rings of splines. The roll pin holds the coupler to the input shaft of the steering box by passing along the grove in between. You need a new seal.

    Steering coupler drift pin question

the pin only locates the coupler to the splined input shaft and prevents fore and aft movement. if that breaks you have way, way bigger problems. steering shaft to shoe pin, yeah, different story.

    Steering column drop

Yes.. There is a procedure in the FSM. I followed the procedure last time but would take it a step farther next time. Some things that help. Remove the front seats Next time I'm going to remove the column from the car ( roll pin on the coupler, a hand full of nuts and bolts, and a couple...

    build thread for jamies dart..:)

Good thing is you don't have to pound a roll pin in and out it that would super suck. The coupler cap, I pre-bent the tabs then squeezed it over coupler. It flexes like a spring type of metal. Super easy that way.

    Steering Coupler Rebuild "How To"

Don't be a “SLAMMER”- Be aware what many folks miss: 1. The coupler shoes and the end of the shaft must sit HALF-WAY inside the coupler AFTER it is installed back into the car/steering gear box. The shoes “float” inside the coupler. Big black letters in the FSM draws your attention to this. The...

    Steering Coupler

How can you tell a steering coupler needs rebuilt..? Car is not on the road, so can't drive to feel or hear anything, if those are even symptoms. When I took mine apart and compared to the new rebuild kit, I can't really tell a difference in the components...except, the new dowel pin that the...

    Steering coupler question

I just found a thread from 2009. That explains it fairly well. My column when I took it out didn’t have the small dowel pin that I could find either. Of course when I pulled it out everything went apart. My next question is when you put it all back together, do you need to pack the box with...

    Steering coupler question

The stainless clamp goes over the top cap of the coupler. The legs of the clamp are split so that you put one leg into each side of the roll pin.

Mopar steering column has a collapsible shaft, second try.

...up on center and attempted to push the coupler and column into the steering box but WTF we couldn't get it in far enough to put the coupler pin in. It was about an inch too short now. So during our struggles we somehow collapsed the shaft an inch. An internet search told us how to correct it...

‘63 Valiant - steering shaft play

If the coupler was disassembled sometime in the past, it may just have been re-assembled wrong. If you turn the shoes 90 degrees, there will be all kinds of slop in the coupler. I'd pull the column and disassemble the coupler before ordering any parts. It's rare that those shoes wear out...

'69 Barracuda T56 swap, floor, cross member

Yeah I had set screw in coupler tight to steering box splines and pin in coupler to keep shoes from coming out. So I know those shoes slid in that coupler. And cap on coupler with bent over tabs still on there tight. Looking into why reverse lockout module stopped working now? Internal...

That's a little steep unless the machine work is done correctly to the engine. It really irks me when people paint their engine compartments and spray the upper shock pin and rubbers the same color as the body. Not to mention the steering column and coupler as well as the windshield washer hoses...

Can you help ID my steering coupler?

Just got a 69 Dart I’m chasing down some sloppy steering and first item up is the steering coupler doesn’t have a roll pin in it. steering column removal

I dealt with this issue a couple of weeks ago. We used wd40 and a hammer and tapped on the bottom of the coupler upwards. It was slow going but it eventually came free. I still had the seat in the car and rested the column on a crate to raise it and relieve some tension at the coupler. There may...
