Gear Vendors or swap to better tranny?

Boom! That's what I was looking for. I read a thread about your experience with GV, but wasn't that some years ago? Have the units not evolved? GV people say there is no need for cutting anymore. They use the term, "massaging". I definitely don't want to have to do cutting or pipe moving. As for...

With an A904 automatic, the ratios are 2.45-1.45-1.00-.78 with splits of .59-.69-.78 It's actually a great set of progressive splits, keeping your engine in the powerband, IF you have a decent rear gear..... Like 4.10/4.30s. It works even better with a 4 speed; the ratios are...

    [Found!] 67-69 DART FLAT HOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...Would like it to be within driving distance. I live in Northeast Alabama. If trading is possible I have these parts to trade for hood and GM 2004r transmission or what else you got. A hood definitely has to be part of the deal. One set of heads are (BARE) 915 J heads and the others are 596...

    Converter lockup

See the links below. Can someone more knowledgeable about auto trans than I am tell me what is better and why? I'm going with the 2004R with Wilcap adapter behind the 340 in my Dart project. The trans is from an 86 Monte Carlo SS and will be rebuilt with aftermarket parts to toughen it up a bit...

200-4R Behind a 340 and Reid Bellhousing Build

Mine was built to take up to 750 hp. I know a couple guys running 1000 hp Grand Nationals that run 200 4R and have no issues. They are plenty strong. I have just over 500 hp and I beat the living **** out of mine. Burnouts, rolling burnouts, track racing, street racing, etc... Mine lasted five...

200-4R Behind a 340 and Reid Bellhousing Build

If you go with the non-lock up converter you'll save some hassle with the converter engagement/disengagement switches and wiring. There's little difference in cost but much more fun to drive, for me at least. You will lose 1 or 2 MPG but I didn't care about that!! Treblig

What type of shifter do you plan to use?? I also used the Wilcap adapter, mostly because it was the thinnest letting me cut less off the cross member. Treblig

200-4R Behind a 340 and Reid Bellhousing Build

Not a problem. My 417 is probably north of 600 hp so we shall see how it holds out. They can be built to handle 1000 hp but it’s important to get them set up correctly. Otherwise they’ll fail along with the many others who have burned them up due to improper throttle valve adjustments and not...

    Overdrive options

I'm rebuilding a GM 2004R for a guy down the street from me for his 69 Camaro. They are a good trans if you put quite a bit of money in them. One of the biggest costs is a billet or hardened forward drum. They can be built to handle 1000 HP according to Art Carr but that takes some doing...

    Did you build a 2004r or a 700r4?

    A different Q on 340 Vs 416

...your rear gear choices are fewer. If you only drive the car occasionally and never any long, long distances I'd go for the lower gear just for the fun of it!! But that just me?? That's why I went with the 2004R overdrive. 4:10/4:11 gears, tall tires and decent gas mileage. Treblig

    Trans cooler with AC condenser

After I installed the non-lock up 2004R (1800 stall) in my Barracuda I installed a cooler in front of the radiator. I also installed a trans temp gauge. It ran below 200 degrees all the time, I live in S. Texas so it's always very hot and humid: Treblig

200-4R Behind a 340 and Reid Bellhousing Build

I kept my original console and complete shifter in my '69 Barracuda when I installed the 2004R. I documented everything in detail here on FABO. I even did a little work to the shifter detents so that I could put it in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear easily. Treblig

    a500 or 200r4 ?

That makes a big difference!! I thought you were working on an A body. I don't know about any clearance issues you might have with the A500 or the 2004R but I do know that the 2004R does not require any cutting on the trans tunnel on an A body. treblig

    Which OD Trans

No floor chopping with the GM 2004R!! I put one in my Barracuda and I'm so happy!! 3:90 gears and runs 2200 RPM at 60 MPH> Treblig

Auto Trans rec for my 5.7 EFI Swap

If you don't want to cut the tunnel, you dont have many options. A GM 2004R is possible with minimal tunnel work and an adapter. My brother had one built to handle his 500hp 408 in his Dart Sport. A 518 typically requires more work because its bulkiest right in the crossmember area but some have...

    Early A-Body Automatic Transmission Switch

No matter what you choose you will have to do some tunnel and cross-member modifications. I haven't heard of anyone using a 5 speed but there are a few here that has used the 500 model Mopar o/d and the 2004r GM o/d trannys. You can use the search function and find a lot of info.

What is the best way to get an overdrive auto in a 67 Barracuda?

Put a GM 200-4R 2004R, 2004R Transmissions, Performance 2004R, 2004R Monster Transmission, 200-4R Transmission Heavy Duty Performance with a Wilcap adapter plate. Wilcap Company Transmission Adapters Didn't see the 440 part. That makes things harder I think.

Install a Tremec T56 Magnum in your A-body

I wanted to produce a kit that would allow people to retain the torsion bar front end, without loosing any strength in the cars torsion bar frame area, while allowing a 6 speed transmission that could handle 700ft/lbs of torque. The swap over is an absolute amazing transformation!! Todd...

200-4R Behind a 340 and Reid Bellhousing Build

It’s laying around. I’ll probably toss it. Extreme Automatics builds them to 1000hp. I ended up with about 1/8” of end play on mine. Used some spacers provided by FTI.

Highway RPM with the 200R4. Gotta love it!

Thought I'd post a photo of the passenger side cut I made in the cross member to clear the 2004R. As noted earlier I won't weld the driver side cut until trans fitment is verified. Based on others posts, I went ahead and welded the passenger side cut, pretty sure it will be enough clearance. Not...

    a500 or 200r4 ?

I would go with the 2004R, it's worked out Soooo good with my car!!: Will GM 200r4 work with factory floor shift location? I recently switched to 4:56 gears and it still does extremely well on the highway, but I do use 29" tall tires!! treblig

At what point to go Dana 60 ??????

Yea it looks machined. That’s why I asked. I’m debating over a 2004r or a gearvendors for an overdrive for my 67 Cuda. Don’t want to cut up the chassis or do a coil over conversion.
