Am I an idiot for wanting to boost a high compression 318?

If you are having vapor lock issues, you need to look at how you've got your fuel system set up. You have a '75, so there should be a fuel return line in your system. Are you using it, or did you just disconnect and cap "all that emissions crap"? Find the fuel return line (1/4") and connect to...

Fuel pressure dropping while driving and under acceleration to zero at idle runs 4 lb electric Blue

Try to block your return line and see what happens. A Holley blue pump can be run without a return line. I would raise the fuel pressure to at least 6 PSI at idle, 4 PSI is too low for most carburetors, especially a Holley Carb. It seems that either you have a massive amount of fuel returning to...

Fuel pressure dropping while driving and under acceleration to zero at idle runs 4 lb electric Blue

That will be a good test. I don’t think the Holley regulator is a problem since you are using it as a T.

    Fuel injection throttle body

I tried calling holley yesterday wanting to know this, so no issues with using the sniper kit and drop in tank pump? Just capping the the return on the sniper will resolve this and not effect the way it runs or mess with the internal regulator by not running a return line?

Exhaust proximity to fuel lines etc

Yes already have electric installed but when we installed 3" dual exhaust its a little to close for about 2' on the one side next to pump. I will look into your suggestions.

    Intake manifold choices

The air gap will do little to help your problem. You need to stop the fuel from vaporizing in the fuel line. In the mid 80's not sure of what year they made a fuel filter with a return line built in for this reason. I had the same issue with my Duster. Everytime I would go to start it after...

    Return line fuel restriction?

The only truly correct way to do this is to run the same size lines, fittings, everything from and to the tank. -6AN is pretty adequate for almost anything under 600 HP. Pickup in the tank if you can using an in-tank pump. Otherwise use an external pump near the tank, mounted lower than the...

Fuel pressure dropping while driving and under acceleration to zero at idle runs 4 lb electric Blue

Just an update. I shorten the supply line about 9 in so now it comes straight out of the sending unit down to the fuel pump. The only pull it has is up the sending unit from the bottom of the tank. It made some difference but still drops when you get above 2000 RPMs. My next thing I'm going to...

Fuel pressure dropping while driving and under acceleration to zero at idle runs 4 lb electric Blue

Thats a -6 AN. If your return line is -8, I would want that fitting to be -8 too. There are other styles of bulkhead fittings if you dont want to weld a fitting on the tank that may work better. The thing about bulkhead fittings is you have to be able to get to the backside of the fitting...

Stop in for a cup of coffee

There are varying opinions on the validity of the ideal strap mark and ring locations. They do seem to corellate to the development of the flame as Shrinker described. (I'm not sure if I have that saved and that forum is gone). However with a mix of driving conditions it becomes difficult if...

    overheat only over 3000 rpm

Most, perhaps all, of what needs to be said regarding your cooling system, has been said. So I just want to touch on ignition timing. Most of us here have been tuning cars for over 50 years. IDK about the rest of the guys but as for me, tuning the idle-timing by ear, for highest idle, is IMHO...

    Sniper efi

Thanks guys. Was pretty much a straight forward install. Bought a Tancs Inc gas tank with an intank fuelpump. New 3/8” fuel line both feed and return. I shielded som of the wire harnesses that passed near the efi harness, used adhesive copper tape that were grounded at each end of the shield...

Has anyone here used the Holley EFI pumps?

im using the same setup, BUT i use a Holley fuel regulator/filter with return line. I hear my pump buzzing just when it primes. Your Sniper has a dead end system with no returnline.

New dash and Holley Sniper installed....wow!

Yeah it's a lot of money but once it's dialed in, you shouldn't have any problems. Your car will start up and drive like your daily. Btw, you don't need a return line with the Sniper.

Stop in for a cup of coffee

Imo every fuel system should have a return line to tank. Prevents vapor lock. 4psi to carb is great

Adding a vapor line to your fuel filter

I dunno if this is my answer but if I had that later style fuel sending unit with the extra connection can run that return line into there?

    Convert FI to Carb

The good news is that dodge didn’t go with OBD2 until 1996, so it should still be a lot like doing the earlier TBI trucks. Magnums used higher fuel pressure, but if you can use the relay to run the factory pump, you could use it with a bypass regulator and a return line. But the mechanical fuel...

Exhaust proximity to fuel lines etc

i just looked over your build thread and i dont want to help you anymore...im too jealous all kidding aside, it looks like you got the exhaust and fuel line ran allready, and it looks good to me short of adding a return, i dont see much room for improvements

What you also need is this (if you can find ): I run that under a 750DP on an Air Gap. Also, all fuel line is covered with DEI Fire Sleeve: My engine “bay” is much more oppressive than any A,B,C alphabet car will ever be. I don’t have the issues you describe using the two items above...

Adding a vapor line to your fuel filter

If you are talking about the fuel filters that were used in the 80's with a third nipple that comes off the side of the "can", that isn't for a "vapor" line. It's for a return line to the tank. Raw fuel will come out of that line. It should be routed to the tank...not a charcoal canister.

    Intake manifold choices

You do not need to use AN fittings and braided line. I had to because of what was already on my car. You just need a return regulator and barbed fittings. Then a rubber hose back to the tank. Did many cars that way. Or route the lines using the mopar return filter. Holley 12-803BP Holley...

    Fuel Line Choice and size

You can’t get push rods that are too stiff, too much ignition or too big a fuel pump. Those Holley pumps are pretty much bargain basement stuff. The OP bought nice stuff. It needs a #10 line to feed it. Then he needs to figure out how much fuel he will be returning at WOT and size the return...

Mech Fuel Pump Drag Racing 318

Here’s the things with mechanical fuel pumps. They loose efficiency when they heat up. Adding a return line to the system is a very good idea. Mechanical or not. Putting an electric pump before the mechanical pump is ensuring the mechanical pump always has fuel. The mechanical pump regulates...

    Holley Sniper Issues

If it starts with fuel it means the MSD is getting a signal but the Sniper is not have you set the input type in the sniper setup also watch the sniper screen when cranking it should show RPM on the onscreen tacho about 150 to 200 enough to command the Sniper to spray in some fuel . Does it do...

LA360 Vapor Lock, Heat Soak, OR??

Nothing changed? But what about the fuel? The fuel is boiling at a lower temperature. If you have a dual feed line install a return regulator and get a line that accepts one. You will see a big difference in performance once you do this. If you keep the fuel flowing it doesn't boil. Your...

Mech Fuel Pump Drag Racing 318

I am running the Carter high flow fuel pump and that will show a short coming in round robins (back to back) runs with the vehicle slowing down a tad. This is on a street driver, not a race car. Two different fuel needs and requirements. Both can do a good job in feeding enough fuel but one is...
