    318 Carb Size Question

Mines a 318LA with stock small valve j heads. 340 spec cam (not sure which one though it was free!), long tube headers 2 1/2 inch exhaust. torker 2 manifold eddy 600 carb. Pulls to 6k. When I had just glasspacks off the headers to turndowns (purple hornie style) it pulled to 6200 but had a...

    click...click...click... DAMMIT!

The way you describe sounds just like a bad starter solenoid. Grab a modern starter for sure! I got a used one for 30 bucks since at the time I really couldn't afford to spend 130 on a new one made by a reputable brand name. Works like a hot damn! those old style ones are only good for boat...

    833 aluminum overdrive reinforcement

80-90 works great in my wore out 833 OD. Shifts like butter even at 6,000 rpm. They are great transmissions mine must have 100k+ on it makes all sorts of bearing noises and OD makes horrible noise, I think the gears are worn out. When I put it in and heard all the noise I expected it to...

Help me please tryin to beef up 318

Half this thread makes me want to :banghead: You have most of the ingredients for a decent build just use those and grab an appropriate camshaft. your barely out any money and you will be done by prom. Build a 360 or something down the road and drive your car while your building it.

Help me please tryin to beef up 318

Just stick the 360 heads on the teen go somewhat mild with the cam. Big cams bleed off compression and 360 heads on a 318 lower the compression ratio a bunch. I have a 318 stock short block with stock 360 heads, 340 spec camshaft, torker II intake, edelbrock 600 cfm carb, cheap flowtech...

    Opinions on 318 Needed

Its worth it if the motor spins for sure. Keep in mind 68 won't have hardened valve seats though. If it spun by hand id put a little oil in each cylinder prime the oil system and start it on the ground. Then you will know what you have before you mess with it too much.

    Holley Street Avenger on 408 / 416

I have two brand new 670s i am using. They seem to be jetted pretty lean out of the box. The one I had working well but it was pretty rich ran between 10-1 and 12-1 a/f ratio. Tried leaning it out for better mileage and just couldn't get rid of the off idle stumble even with some huge squirters...

    Turbo small block

I think the LA block is good to about 600, I don't know if the magnum block is weaker or not. Don't know much about the new hemi I can't afford to tinker with one. I rebuilt my 318 and threw 360 heads on it which flow better but lower compression. I am hoping to throw some boost at it when I...

Do you worry about your car when you take it out?

My car had nice paint, I drove it everywhere parked it in the college parking lot and stuff. I just always tried to park away from people when possible. Wasn't always possible though. Anyway 7 years of driving and I only got one minor scratch from someone other than myself. I put a few scratches...

    Aluminum 833OD behind a 440...your thoughts

The OD trans are strong from my experience. Put one from a feather duster behind my mild 318. I had no idea what the condition of the transmission was but i put it in anyway. It had loads of miles on it, all sorts of bearing noises and 4th gear sounds terrible but, I just don't use it since I...

    How hard is it?

It's not very hard to put one in but you need a magnetic base dial indicator.

    engine noise

Did you by some chance get the wrong header gasket? I think 318 and 360 ones make a difference. I also have a non mopar, honestly its a total bastard car its not faithful to any makes. Anyway it was a custom motor swap so we modded some headers to make it work in the new chassis. I looked for...

holley 670 street avenger jetting questions

Anyone have experience with the avenger series of carbs? not on a mopar but looking for advice. ford 351 Cleveland 4 barrel heads (which essentially have big block sized ports) cams like 550 lift, eddy intake i forget which one exactly. Basically just simple bolt ons. It sat for a while but...

My first muscle car build thread (lots of pics)

My next project with the car is to fix the damn leaking front window. It would leak down onto the back of the gauges, into the fuse box then exit on your left leg and run into your shoe while your driving. not fun, so I pulled the front window then realized i might as well re do the vinyl top...

My first muscle car build thread (lots of pics)

Been a long time since I've updated. I haven't done much lately. The other day I had the car on a lift and could check out my front end. It really felt like a bag of crap going into corners even with bigger torsion bars and sway bars all around. I came to find out my idler arm had play at the...

Any interest in Skip White HEI walk through?

I think its a holden dizzy just made to fit a mopar. Not the same module as gm HEI but does the same stuff. The curve probably sucks in stock form I would play with lighter springs assuming they are accessable. The only bad thing is you might not be able to get the cap/rotor and module at your...

Best Way to Seal Right Angle Oil Filter Adapter

I have had nothing but bad luck with the mopar performance oil adapter seals. When I ordered a felpro gasket set for my engine it came with the oil filter adapter gaskets they were real nice gaskets and thicker than the old ones, the big ring even was a slight interference fit so you didn't have...

    318 build!!!

I say take it apart first then see what is wrong with it. Yeah maybe your spot on and it spun a rod bearing and screwed the crank up pretty good. But maybe it spun it and it didn't mess it up that bad, or maybe something else was making noise. I just feel like if possible don't make any...

1971 Match Race ~ 'Duster 340' vs. 'Boss 351 Mustang'

The ports on the Cleveland are HUGE. I don't think any small block has bigger ports. Here is some pictures compairing them to ford windsor heads. They also have 2.19" intake valves! Pretty impressive really.

'89 Toyota PU, won't run when wet?

The ignitor is mounted on top of the coil. It is black and does not have a heat sink. I think I have one for a 91 22re pickup around here somewhere. Also there is a rubber boot that some cars/trucks came with that goes around the distributor. The air flow meter box by the air filter could...

What clutch to get for a833 on a 349 stroker

How much hp and tq do you think you'll have? the one with many fingers is a diaphragm clutch and is easier to push. the 3 fingers are harder to push at least as a general rule of thumb. A stock replacement 3 finger clutch really isn't that hard to push down though, some guys make it sound a lot...

    hard hot starts?

If I drive around for a half hour or longer and get the car good and hot, then shut it off and go into 7/11 or something and come back out I have to hold the throttle open a bit and it takes a few seconds to start. It smells like gas when I shut it off too. Its an eddy 600 cfm. Could my floats...

    Portable Air/Fuel gauge?

You should be able to rig any wideband to work in the tailpipe and can probably just use aligator clips for power/ground. Just keep in mind all the way at the back you will get some lag in your data and if you have exhaust leaks it can throw it off a bit. Still would probably work decent for...

Cam advice for ill advised 318 combo?

I have a very similar combo. Did a re ring on a low mileage 318 block, Put on a set of small valve 360 heads I had on the shelf, 340 spec camshaft, torker 340 intake, eddy 600cfm carb, headers w/ 2 1/2" x pipe exhaust. Then I have a 833 od, 3.23 gears and 275/60/15 tires. It roasts the tires...

    Radiator flush

I read once in hot rod magazine that they used a 50/50 mix of water and vineger left the cap off and ran the car at operating temp for maybe 10 minutes? Look into it before you do it obviously.
