I finally pulled the distributor to use that FBO plate to recurve the mechanical advance. At first I noticed that pickup was not parallel to the reluctor. The reluctor was also a bit chewed up. Chances are the pickup wasn't parallel to the reluctor because the plate wasa bent. I have now put...

    Mopar Performance Distributor adjustable advance?

Thank you for all your replies! I was already looking for a new distributor not knowing that the one I had was actually a really good one. Thank you, I always appreciate learning how it's done correctly! I did find the tuning keys on ebay and they even come with springs. I also ordered a new...

    Mopar Performance Distributor adjustable advance?

Trial and error it is. I just set it in the middle. From what I (just) read it's adjustable from 0-28 degrees?! So half that should be 14, so I'll see what it does with timing at 20 degrees. I'll see if I can find these tuning keys. Anyways, the distributor came with the engine and I had never...

    Mopar Performance Distributor adjustable advance?

    Mopar Performance Distributor adjustable advance?

I got one of those FBO limiter plates and was about to set it in the distributor, when I noticed two things. At first I noticed that the reluctor was a bit unevenly worn and the pick-up wasn't parallel to it. I'm sure that can't be good. Upon closer inspection it looks like the plate is...

I had noticed that the fish badge had come loose and no matter how much I tried to tighten these self-cutting nuts, I wouldn't stay in place and the trunk lid would scrape the badge everytime you open the trunk. In the Early Valiant and Barracuda Club Facebook group someone posted about cutting...

These are 15x7 small bolt Cragars that I ordered from Jegs. Tires are 205/65R15 in the front and 225/65R15 in the rear. No issues. 4-1/8" backspacing.

    1972 Front Disc Brake Conversion

I went with Kelsey Hayes disc brakes that I grabbed from a junkyard. I replaced everything from rotors to calipers and in the end it was pretty pricey. If I were to do it again, I would probably go with the Scarebird Conversion.

Yeah, I bolted it in and it didn't work. I even scraped the paint of to give it the best chance to ground, but nothing. I swapped the old one back in again and it worked.

I went to the CPW Club Fall Fling in Van Nuys today. Mine and this '66 next to it were the only early Barracudas at the show and in the swap meet weren't many early A-body parts either. I bought an orange box ecu that the guy told me worked when he replaced it with MSD or something, but I went...

Finally decided to tackle the leak at the oil filter adapter. Took out the torsion bar and then the passenger side downpipe. Damn, that thing did not want to come out. Eventually it did. Not a lot of oil came out when I took the adapter off. I left the filter on, cleaned everything up and...

So the front band adjuster stud had worked itself out about half way, so there was no adjustment at all. I torqued it to 72 in lbs and turned it back 2 turns and now I've got 2nd gear!!! Had to adjust the kickdown a bit, but now it's shifting great! Hopefully I'll have some time later today to...

In my last post I mentioned that the transmission shifts weird and possibly needs a band adjustment, right? I just came across this photo that I took when I was dealing with that leaky neutral safety switch. You can see that the front band adjustment lock nut is not touching the transmission...

After working on the Barracuda pretty much non-stop I needed to do some other things with my free time and I've been enjoying just driving the car for a change. However, when you drive your car a lot, you notice the little things. The speedo had been pretty bouncy lately, so I lubed the cable...

I changed the metering rod to the 1456 (073 x 047), because it was running a bit rich (you could smell the fuel at the exhaust). By now I have the FBO advance limiter plate, but right now with (I think) 12 degrees initial it doesn't ping and runs great! I don't really want to mess with it...

[SOLD] '67-up 90 degree oil filter adapter with good bolt

'67-up 90 degree oil filter adapter part number #2780998. I bought it here from a member a while ago, but realized it doesn't fit the early A-bodies. For an early A-body you will need part number #2463661, which a true 90 degree adapter, the '67-up adapter has a slightly different angle. Bolt is...

It's a bit of a pain in the *** to get those down pipes out. You the torsion bar has to come out and even then it's not fun. I was hesitant about the ebay bolt because I'm not sure it's gonna clear, but dinging the pipe is maybe not a bad idea. If that bolt actually improves oil flow - even...

Yup, I used the copper washer, but the problem is that with the TTi exhaust installed you can't really get a wrench on the shortened 1-3/16" head of the bolt. So at some point I have to take the passenger side pipe out, but then I will replace the bolt with either one that has the smaller 3/4"...

The car did well! After taking it to a car wash (so dusty) and it ran well, I went home and change the rods in the carb to make it a bit richer. I put in the #1455 (.073" x .042") rod. It was stock before and spark plugs etc indicated too lean. Adjusted the idle mixture and took it for another...

Well, that was frustrating haha... So the exhaust stud on the "new" heads had already been repaired previously, but I assume it just rusted out again from the coolant side. That was not possible to tell before I actually started torquing down the manifold and the insert came out. I tried heli...

I wasn't super fond of the look of the CVF brackets, so I cut and ground them until all the corners were round. Just looks a bit more period correct. They're not even that visible once everything is installed, but I really like how they turned out. I painted the compressor too and...
