I never thought I'd say this, but it's time to sell

All great advice, thanks guys. I am considering making some sort of buyback arrangement, it's definitely one of the reasons that I want to see the car go to someone that lives and breathes Mopars as much as I do. For those that wanted to know, I'll be attending Emory University in Atlanta...

That's what it comes down to, I know it's the right decision for my family. Thanks 4spd, I'm glad that someone else in the same boat. Well, not glad, but you get the idea.

No doubt! That's what is killing me about it now. I'm just trying to think ahead a few years and hoping that I can find something that I'll be as happy with.

I never thought I'd say this, but it's time to sell

Well guys, sometimes I surprise myself. I'm moving across the country for graduate school in the spring and I had planned all along to bring the Barracuda with me. Unfortunately, the more I think about it, the more I realize that I have to do the smart thing and let it go. I'm really bummed...

After 2 long years, 1st start up!!! (Video)

Everything on the engine is new except for the block and rotating assembly. Maybe I'm being overly cautious, but I just don't want to deal with wiped lobe. I'm sure it would be fine though. The cam is the Hughes flat-tappet Whiplash for low deck big blocks. Specs are 0.518" lift with 229*...

After 2 long years, 1st start up!!! (Video)

Thanks guys, I'm very excited to have it back on the road. I took it for a drive up and down the block last night to make sure everything is working properly before heading out on some real roads. So far so good. Also got the timing fine-tuned and the idle mixture set correctly. It's pulling...

After 2 long years, 1st start up!!! (Video)

What started as a simple valve spring replacement turned into a rebuild of the entire top end, and then some! It's taken two very long years, but I finally got everything back together and fired it up for the first time yesterday. Everything went beyond smoothly and I'm very pleased with the...

    DOHC hemi A925

Interesting that you mention this. If you look at the photos on the first page of this thread, it appears that the timing belt would totally interfere with the water pump inlet hose. Not sure that the prototype shown would actually be functional.

    Camshaft Removal

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but it seems like there are some problems here that could turn out very badly for you. If you did this with hydraulic lifters, then the lifter was collapsed as you rotated the crank by hand. This effectively reduces the lift at the valve and is not an...

    Camshaft Removal

Changing a camshaft is by no means just a simple part swap. If done incorrectly you will end up with serious engine damage. Don't take this the wrong way, but I highly recommend that you get a little more educated before attempting this. "How to Rebuild the Big-Block Mopar" by Arvid Svendsen...

I'll take detailed photos when they arrive and probably do a full review in the exhaust section. It'll probably be a couple more months until I get the engine back in the car and fired up so I won't really know how they fit and perform until then. They're TTI though, so I'm sure they're money...

Thank you much! I'm doing all I can to do this the right way, ultimately I just want an engine I can be proud of.

That's great, I wish I could change the pistons and freshen up the block but it's not in the budget this time around. Good luck with your build, it looks like it was done right. Also, love the white valve covers. Those look killer!

One last thing... new headers are on the way. I had been planning all along to go with Schumacher Tri-Y's. I had long tube headers before and they are a royal pain in the *** to work with so I really wanted to go with shorties this time around. The Tri-Y's are quite expensive though and I live...

With the heads bolted on I couldn't resist laying the intake manifold and valve covers in place to see how this will all look when finished. It looks pretty damn nice I say! I can't wait to get it back in the engine compartment.

I wanted to check the valve spring installed height one final time before installing the heads. Each retainer measured between 1.830" and 1.836", no shimming required. The Hughes valve springs that I am using should be installed at 1.880". I am already using the +0.050" valve locks and I have no...

The water pump was bolted on about a week later. Remember that nice timing tape? Yeah... I can't even see it now. Bummer I considered switching to the standard driver's-side-inlet water pump housing but my radiator is already set up for this and I've read bad things about the 440source pump...

Been a while since I updated this thread, still working on the engine most weekends though. A couple of weeks ago I installed the timing cover, windage tray, oil pan, and balancer. Huge thank you to FABO member Purple Haze who provided the oil pan. It was listed in the parts for sale forum...

Gladly:thumbup: Here's a couple close-ups of the latest version of the Hughes rocker arms. There's a large groove machined into the top to direct oil down to the roller tip. The shafts have also evolved; the banana grooves are gone, replaced with what I would describe as a flat spot machined...

Update: The adjustable checking pushrod and lifter were sent back to Hughes yesterday. I am very confident that the measurements are correct and I look forward to receiving a set of custom pushrods. I have no doubt that this is true, and to be honest I hadn't even considered it. I spent the whole morning thinking about this. It makes sense to me... it's not the compression per say that is reduced, it's the cylinder pressure during the power stroke, which torque and horsepower are 100%...

Thanks! It's my baby. Absolutely kills me to have it just sitting in the garage right now. I know it will be worthwhile when done though. They pop up for sale quite often and are usually cheap as dirt. A lot of people write this engine off as a dog because it has low compression. This is...

I will not be replacing any bottom end components at this time. I'll save that for a later date, after I recover from this investment. My plan for this build (for now) is to see what a stock 400 block and rotating assembly can do with decent heads and a well-matched cam. I have a feeling it will...

About this time last year I decided to replace the stock valve springs on my 400 with a set that better matches the cam. Well, plans change I guess and a year later the engine is still on the stand with much bigger things in store for it. I've decided to go with new heads, rockers, cam and...

    Plug wire issue

Cylinders number 5 and 7 are sequential in the firing order so there is potential for cross-talk if you run wires number 5 and 7 next to each other. A lot guys (myself included) run the number 7 wire on top of the engine at the intersection of the cylinder head and the intake manifold, if that...
