I don't think so, but maybe I'm wrong. I think I've read before where this is a solution for a crank that wasn't finish machined for the standard bushing.

If you try the threaded bolt idea be sure to use a coarse thread bolt. Fine threads will strip out in the bushing. Ask me how I know!

There shouldn't be a 5th. He's thinking of a different thing alltogether. First thing I would do is make sure the linkage is adjusted correctly. I would also try a lighter weight lube. Maybe ATF.

It doesn't have to be a slant six trans. An A833 is an A833. All you need is the correct bell housing to connect it to the engine.
