    4 spd clutch pedal help

That welded washer looks like somebody might have done some kind of half a$$ed on-the-spot repair to get them down the road.

    Clutch Slave Cylinder

I can't tell much from the pic because it's so small, but if it's at the pedal it's a master, not a slave. The slave cylinder is the one at the clutch. Easy way to remember. The master goes at the pedal and tells the slave at the clutch what to do. Not a big deal, just be sure to have the...

    Automatic to manual questions

I've never had to deal with the neutral safety switch or the clutch switch. I know that the starter relay for the early cars with an automatic trans has a terminal on it that has to ground through the transmission. I would think that the clutch switch could be connected to this terminal on the...

    A833OD Questions

Are you saying you can turn the 5.125" retainer clear down to the 4.354" size? I was told you had to enlarge the stock 4.354" hole in the bell housing to work with the 4.805" size retainer. Then you could either swap retainers or turn down the larger retainer to 4.805". Did the factory...

    How Hard Is It...........

I did this a looooooooong time ago (over 30 years). I remember we had to rework the Z bar pivot bracket that mounts to the bell housing. I also bought a new Z bar, cut it in the middle & either made it wider or narrower. At the time we just went to the Mopar parts department & had the guy...

    Problems will not go away....

You can take the shifter apart yourself. Clean it up & lube it. Maybe that'll fix your problem. It could just be the internal parts of the shifter hanging up on each other trying to drag it into 2 gears at once. Can't tell you how to do it because it's been so long but I know that my Dad & I...

    What makes a Hurst...

My factory original Hurst shifter in my '64 Barracuda says Competition Plus on the side. Had a bolt on handle. Didn't have the adjustable stops that aftermarket Hurst shifters had. Also didn't have the dust shield on the bottom that I've seen on some other Hurst shifters It's my...

    What tranny is this?

Thanks, but I have another member here who is selling me one for a bit less. Just hasn't happened yet, so I'm keeping my eyes open as to what's available. I'll keep you in mind.

You have to find the specific posts with the links for the pics. There will be the word "attachment" in the bar across the top of the post & you have to click on it. It's easy to miss.

    Passon 5 Speed

I think the 2 different transmissions we're talking about are being confused now. I read that the Passon trans would (although I don't yet understand how) use the stock shifter. Maybe the reverse arm is used to also shift the 5th gear? I think the internal rail shifter being discussed is...

    Passon 5 Speed

I don't think that's right on the price. His set of OD gears for the regular 833 costs that much. I seem to recall reading an estimated price somewhere but can't remember what it was but it was a lot more than that. I went to the website a few days ago looking for info on the trans & found...

    340 4 speed crank

If the 4 speed motor is still assembled I would check into the cost of having the automatic crank drilled. If it's not too expensive I'd just have it drilled so I could keep the other motor together. If the 4 speed motor is already apart I'd be more inclined to swap cranks. This is assuming...

    date code for my A-833

My '64 came from the factory with a Hurst Competition Plus shifter. It's stamped into the side of the shifter tower. The trans came with the 4.35" diameter IBR. Not sure when they went to the larger diameter but I think it was when they went to big blocks. I would think if you have an A body...

Weren't Inland shifters called "Spaghetti" shifters? Something to do with the accuracy or feel of the shifts...:-\"

    Pilot Bushing Removal

I don't think so, but maybe I'm wrong. I think I've read before where this is a solution for a crank that wasn't finish machined for the standard bushing.

    Pilot Bushing Removal

If you try the threaded bolt idea be sure to use a coarse thread bolt. Fine threads will strip out in the bushing. Ask me how I know!

Help (I am very frustrated) Help...

There shouldn't be a 5th. He's thinking of a different thing alltogether. First thing I would do is make sure the linkage is adjusted correctly. I would also try a lighter weight lube. Maybe ATF.

    broken bearing retainer

You might also need to know the size of the bearing behind the retainer. There are two sizes of bearing & three sizes of retainer. I think there are two sizes of retainer that will fit the larger size bearing but not sure about how many that fit the small size bearing. IIRC, the larger...

    blow proof bell housing question

Probably the easiest way to make sure you don't push off the clips during installation would be to install the engine/bell/trans as a unit.

    Need some measurements

I just looked a 2 833s in my shop. Neither one was welded. One is a truck OD trans & measures 2 1/8" after the splines. The other is a rebuilt trans that I was told was for a 66 A Body & it measures 2 5/16" after the splines. I took both measurements beginning at the small diameter section...

Does anybody have a a833 4speed 4 sale ball and trunion

It doesn't have to be a slant six trans. An A833 is an A833. All you need is the correct bell housing to connect it to the engine.
