79 Bob Glidden Small Block Pro Stock

He got a weight break that I think they took back, and put the weight back on trying to slow him down. I’m betting he had a bigger engine later in the season. Everyone was trying to break the 8.50 barrier I watched him run I think 8.58 off the trailer, he parked it. Won the event at Martin, MI

    Difference in X heads & J heads

Seems I remember the chambers were a little smaller on every set I’ve saw. could be they’re so old someone has machined on them? I liked starting with the small valve j head, and putting bigger valves in. Fresh seat area, valve sitting up pretty flowing better than some wore out x heads with...

W2 heads I think they are ready

It ran 7.40s on the motor and 6.90 on a 100 shot with ported j heads on dot tires, and exhaust. Stockish 340 solid cam 1/8th mile. Didn’t get to many opportunities to run quarter as all the tracks were 1/8 mile where I lived at the time. Drove it to the track

    Early 360

    No problem there I’m sure.

    Early 360

It was a cheap way to build a 372-373 I had so much good luck with a .060 over 340 which comes to a 4.100 bore I felt a .070 over 360 at 4.070 was possible after sonic testing it. Did you have any sign of it trying to overheat ever?

    CAM AND MAIN BEARINGS SHOT

Those bearings are far from shot. Looks like it didn’t have enough oil pressure at some point? After priming oil pump, did you roll the engine over with no plugs, and verify oil pressure? What did you use for an assembly lube? Or did someone else assemble? Double check everything and...

    Early 360

Here is a 4/27/70 casting 360 after sonic testing I bored it .070

W2 heads I think they are ready

I’ll bet it’ll run 10s in its first outing to the drag strip.

W2 heads I think they are ready

The geometry is pretty bad though. The installed height is not quite 2” so the .650-.660 roller will work. If I had a height closer to 1.70 and a cam around .550 wouldn’t need it. Mike from B3 racing did a nice job with that kit. Engine should have a smooth valvetrain at 7-8 thousand rpm once I...

W2 heads I think they are ready

Thought I would mock up some ductile iron rockers and check. Even with the iron rockers they are to short. If I put my wife’s 440 Sixpack in the neighbors pos Monte Carlo SG car it would probably run 9.80 He’s been struggling a couple years

W2 heads I think they are ready

He didn’t have anything to say except when I mentioned if some Harland Sharp rockers would be a better match? He said no, they are worse as far as geometry goes. Never brought up pushrod length, I just thought 2-3 threads is what you wanted showing. I was wrong. Or I should say Crane is wrong.

W2 heads I think they are ready

Yellow rose is correct holes don’t line up. Exhaust is not far off, maybe a .100” Intake is not even close of course, with either pair of shafts, both were new sets, one was w2-w5 and the others I’m not sure, billet shafts I think not even close either.

W2 heads I think they are ready

I did not. I guess I will though as it felt like one rocker was still contacting something. May need more clearance I almost hate these rockers. I think around 220 on the seat, and around 600 open. Won’t be racing or wrapping it up to 8,000 for awhile, as the car is a ways off. I’m at the...

W2 heads I think they are ready

I bought these from Chicago connection 10 years ago or so. There new. I think he sold me the shafts as well. I was intending to use them on some w5 heads. They deserve better then this garbage. I’d love to find some Norris rockers, maybe TD

W2 heads I think they are ready

I remember awhile back I primed the pump, and rolled the engine over oiling looked pretty decent. I’ll start it, and break it in, and make sure other issues don’t arise. If all is Gucci it will get some .150-.200 longer pushrods. Should get it in the zone?

W2 heads I think they are ready

So they measure from the bottom of the rocker to the pushrod cup .280” under .300” So I’m assuming the 9/32 is probably to the end of the ball to rocker? So to short? I get it Crane isn’t very clear on the 2-3 thread crap which is what I measured for.

W2 heads I think they are ready

These are 5/16 x .116 wall 7.650 is the current length. I probably could have got away with .083 wall as it’s rated to 700 open pressure, but I felt not a place to skimp on strength.

W2 heads I think they are ready

So the answer is 9/32 plus zero minus .050 and yours are too long (pushrods are too short). I’ll mic it tomorrow. Having a glass of bourbon atm 136.6 proof for the times

W2 heads I think they are ready

I’ll see how it oils, and if it’s a problem I will consider lash caps as PR recommends, though I would probably get some .050 or so longer pushrods. Though Demonracer Sold me some other rockers, could be worth checking with them. Though not sure how ductile iron rockers will work? I’ve had...

Geometry looks pretty good with the Smith brothers pushrods. I guess put it in now.

W2 heads I think they are ready

Thanks I’ll keep it in mind. I had to grind on these for clearance, hopefully I didn’t compromise them to much. Mopar perf look like Crane to me.

W2 heads I think they are ready

You’ve got a quick car and it’s obviously a mostly full body car. A sportsman class is heads up I’m Guessing? I kind of left room with the W2 Set I have, as I noticed 2 spots 1 in particular of I call it porosity in the casting. I stopped before I punched a hole. Probably a easy area to fix though.

W2 heads I think they are ready

I’ve had these around for a few years and am getting around to using them. I bought them on fleabay with a victor jr intake, which I’m not a huge fan of, and found a Strip Dominator instead. I installed new guides, and new valves actually everything’s been replaced. I polished the chambers...

    T/A heads

Those TA heads look about and flow the same as some I ran many years ago in my Dart. Flowed 253 at 25” with a stock valve. The other day I had to clearance a little more for pushrods. So I did a smidge more work on these. It’s a stock stroke 360 so no need in a max effort. Critique away.

    Thumper

    I’d put a 68 340 4 speed cam in and call it a day.

    Thumper

I run that Lunati in my wife’s Challenger. I liked the lift, the faster opening rate, shorter overall duration, etc.. looked like a nice street piece, that I figured she could start easily and idle at the stoplight. It’s pretty much all that. Everyone was like put the 292 cam in it. As much as...
