Questions about 3 Spd 727 Tranny

Make sure you get it adjusted properly. It controls the line pressure in the transmission. If not correct you can cause damage to the trans.

    Spool or biscuit trans Xmember?

The only one that failed on me was a very old non spool mount type in my 1970 340 duster street strip car. The rubber was old and probably oil soaked. The trans did not break completely free as there is some fail safe to the mount design even in the non spool type. But the trans was moving...

    Spool or biscuit trans Xmember?

Personally I like the spool unit. In my opinion it is a more failsafe design. Also energy suspension makes a poly kit for the spool type.

    Yukon Axles

Sounds like your axles are too short. I would start with measuring from the center section out to the flange. As Lelo Dart said might be a b-body housing.

    1968 a833 1-2 gear stuck

Did you try and turn the output shaft and move the 1-2 lever? If not pull the side cover and see what is wrong. If yours is a 1968 year trans it will have the ball and detent system to keep from shifting into two gears at once. I would check to see if that was assembled wrong. If that...

    Vibration at 90 MPH

If it is a gearset howl, does the rear howl under acceleration or decceleration? If it howls while one or the other occurs it is likely a gear noise. Vibration usually doesn't occur from gear noise (howling), likely some other source. I would look at what changed from your gear swap. Did...

Mounting a muncie to a small block mopar??

Creeds As much as I like the a833 and the A230, for a circle track application the GM trans is fine. The best thing is there are plenty of them in the pits to borrow if yours breaks

Mounting a muncie to a small block mopar??

I think the fact that it is not SFI approved makes it less expensive.

Mounting a muncie to a small block mopar??

Try this bellhousing http://www.summitracing.com/parts/LAK-77-325/ The car in my Avatar has one in it. I also have a new one sitting on the shelf in my garage for the next circle track project. Lakewood part number is 77-325

Where can I get a transmission mount?

Are you talking the crossmember or the mount? If it is just the mount 72 and down used one type and 73 and up used a spool type (and the crosmembers were different too). If you have the one from the 73 duster (doesn't mater which transmission 727 904 a833 etc) use that one. It is the best one...

    360/5.9 Flywheel Question

What bellhousing are you using? If you are putting an older 4 speed behind it MP has(or last time I looked) the proper flywheel for your application. The magnum engines had a different external balance than LA 360s and cast crank 340s. It is possible to use an old neutral balanced flywheel...

    rear diff

I swapped a set of 3:92's dakota gears into an 8.25" duster diff. The gears will work but as was mentioned above the suregrip won't due to the axle spline differences. I used an ealier sure grip to make this work. Keep in mind when shopping for 8.25" sure grips there are different suregrips...

Mid console for shifter - conversion from column shifter to floor

There are three weld on brackets that are missing. The front mount, the shifter mount, and the rear mount. I think I have a complete set-up in my garage attic: shifter, linkage, brackets, etc, but shipping would be expensive (it is heavy). PM me if you are interested.

A-body 8 3/4 with big bolt pattern axles?

Something doesn't quite sound right. Thinking back to other cars I have seen with the E-body or wide B-body 8.75s, the wheels stuck out of the fenders and only a very offset wheel would correct it. I ran a early B-body 8.75 (from a 68 charger - this is narrower than a E-body, but wider than...

    driveshaft bent???

If you support the rear end (as mentioned above) you could put a dial indicator on the driveshaft and roll it over by hand to check for runout. Or just do it visually. Are you having vibration issues? If the driveshaft is bent you will have a speed related vibration.

    Driveshaft database?

Driveshaft length are usually listed in the old parts manuals. It takes some figuring to determine which body/trans/diff they are refering to, but the info is there.

    340 and 360o externally balanced

The converters are the same but the welded on balance weights are different. But it is an easy fix. Knock (cut) the old weights off and weld on new ones from MP (least expensive way) or buy the correct flex plate from B&M.

    Installing a mini-spool?

I haven't done one either but, it is most likely pull the pin, spider gears and side gears and put in the new stuff. the only issue maybe is if you are running a high numerical gear set you may not be able to get the pin out without removing the ring gear. Are you planning on street driving...

    a-230

It is a only a 3spd, if you are drag racing you would want a four speed. It should handle the power as long as it has the large output shaft (same slip yolk size as the 727 automatic). The internals are the same strength as the a833 4spd (the synchro rings are even interchangeable!) If you...

    8 3/4 ?'s

The 7 1/4" should have smaller axle tubes so the plates and bolts won't fit. If it is an 8.25 it will have 3" tubes and the plates and u bolts will work. Also note that you will have to shorten your driveshaft as the 8.75 is longer fron the ujoint to the axle centerline. You will have to...
