    How to fix outlet?

soldered with a torch, flux, and solder, just like plumbing.... except don't get it too hot or you'll ruin the seal on the tank!

    Thermostat Questions

should not really matter as long as the t-stat doesn't slip out and get between the housing and manifold....

    Heater heat

heater is really pretty simple... run a 195 thermostat, make sure water is flowing well through the core, then you need air flowing through properly as well. Check those 3 things and you will probably find one that is lacking. If you are running 195 t-stat, get it nice and warm, turn OFF the...

    DIY small radiator Shroud

that is looking GREAT! The woven glass cloth is much stronger than the chop mat BUT, as you said, it does not conform near as well to compound angles and curves. The mat us much easier to work with and as you saturate it with resin and work it with the brush, you can actually get it to "stretch"...

Can I use the defroster if I have bypassed the heater core?

it won't hurt anything, it will help a bit but not near as much as if you had a heater core hooked up because, as was said, it is not warm air,

small block water pump outlet right or left?

X2... When I changed the original engine out of my 69 Barracuda, I didn't realize that and ended up blocking the timing marks. It was such a pain, I put the newer water pomp on it and got a radiator with the bottom hose on the right side... you can run the older water pump but won't like the...

    Thermostat or not

I'd put an aftermarket gauge in it so you can tell exactly how hot it is getting. If it gets hot going down the road, 35mph or faster, your radiator is probably partially plugged or just not adequate. If it gets hot when sitting, then it is probably airflow issues, may need a better fan or...

water temp gauge on my 2000 olds alero

I have found that running a T or an extension pipe for water temp does not work all that well because it creates a dead end for the water... it will not flow up into the T and the water temp will not be accurate. The temp gauge is designed to protrude into the water jacket. You should be able to...

    resetting or changing out gauge

temp sender unit is the piece that is screwed into the block, head, or intake manifold. That is replaceable.

    Ditch the Thermostat?

I had a friend that put a Caddy 472 in his CJ7. For some reason, he did not run a thermostat... BUT, he made a plate with a bunch of holes in it to restrict the flow a bit. If he ran without the plate, it ran way hotter and would overheat. I would agree with above posts, have your rad flushed...

    engine gets extremely hot

I agree with Revhendo... normally, overheating while sitting but not while underway is caused by lack of airflow (small fan, no shroud, fan too far away from radiator) overheat while traveling but not while sitting is more of an indication of collapsed hose, plugged radiator, etc....

    stupid question about water neck

little tip, get some weather strip adhesive (like contact cement in a little tube) and glue the t-stat into the housing, then install the whole assembly. This ensures that the t-stat stays in the little recess in the housing and does not slip off center and keep the housing from sealing to the...
