    New wheels

As stated above (and based on all of the research I did) you won't need spacers for the rear. The B-body rear ends are ~1.5" wider (per side) than the A-body rear ends. Stock backspacing on a lot of 7" wide Mopar wheels is 4"-4.25". Adding the 1.5" width of the rear equates to about 5.75" of...

1974 Duster wheels & tire size

What rear end came in the sbp cars after 1972? I was under the impression that all of the 8-1/4" rears and the 7-1/4" rears made after 1972 were all LBP. That is very interesting to hear. I will need to keep that in mind in the future.

1974 Duster wheels & tire size

Not to sound like a jerk, but are you sure that you have small bolt pattern wheels? After 1972, Abodies all came with LBP wheels and disc brakes up front. There were some models in 1973 that used some leftover drum assemblies for the font wheels, but I've never heard of a 1974 having front...

    69 Dart swinger tire size

On what diameter? I've read that a 275 will fit with a 17" wheel, but from all of the research I've done, the sidewall flex and bulge on a 14" or 15" wheel will cause rubbing on anything over a 245 or 255. If you have experience otherwise, I'd love to see it here. It would disprove a lot of...

    69 Dart swinger tire size

Based on everything I have read, this is correct that a 225 is the maximum width tire you can run on a 14" wheel at all four corners. However, the stock wheel tubs can actually fit up to a 255 width tire with the correct backspacing. The problem actually occurs at the front of the car. Wider...

    69 Dart swinger tire size

I run 225/70/14 at all four corners of my '73 Swinger with 14" x 5.5"w rally wheels, FWIW. It's a little spongy around corners, due to the sidewall flex, but I take my corners pretty fast too lol. It's also a little wide for the wheel. I have some sidewall bulge, but it looks pretty good IMO...

    69 B body 8 3/4 in a 68 A body with 15x7s?

If it does fit, it will be very close. May need to trim the inner lip of the wheel opening on the rear quarter. I could be wrong, but I believe you will need a wheel with more backspacing if you plan to run a 7" wide wheel and a 255 width tire. That's a lot of tire for that wheel-well, even...

    Whats a better tire? BFG's or Mickey's

Neither of those tires will be "good" at the track, compared to a drag radial or a slick. I'm not sure one is better than the other, since they have a similar tread design. I have the BFG T/As on my Dart and they work pretty well, but mine have a 70 series sidewall, so there's a lot of cushion...

    Hemi Dart Wheels & Tires?

Look like 15s to me. I judging based on wheel vs. sidewall area. Could be wrong.

    Mopar Steelies ..Weight info

Just a heads up, heavier wheels won't help your weight distribution. That's unsprung weight, so it won't really have an impact. It will increase kinetic and potential roll resistance. It would also come into play if you were previsouly lifting the front wheels off the ground, since it is now...

Looking at 17" wheels for my 74 swinger

Young gun, What back spacing do you run in the front and rear?

Looking at 17" wheels for my 74 swinger

Thanks for the response. I'd like to run 4 wheels with the same back spacing though to allow me to rotate the tires, at least front to back. Perhaps this can be done @ 4-3/4" back spacing. Or will this bring the tire too close to the rear leaf springs?

Will 17x8 wheels fit on the front with a 245/40-17? Same backspacing?

    stock rim safest tire size

I run the 225/70R/14s, but I have a 5.5" wide wheel (measured bead to bead). I think that may be too much tire for a 4.5" wide wheel. At speed, it could be dangerous. It would probably be fine, but I wouldn't risk it if you are planning to upgrade later. -Mike

what size tire and back space

He has coil-overs in the rear, but thank you for confirming my numbers. Good to know I was in the right ballpark.

what size tire and back space

A 275 on a 17" wheel is not as wide as a 275 on a 15" wheel. The sidewall bulge is significant on the 15". It will probably run the inner wheel well. Again, he hasn't specified his ride height.

what size tire and back space

I don't know of any members here that converted to coil overs and didn't do a mini-tub. I'm waiting for one to chime in. I know that all of my research limited me to a 255/60/14 (at the max) with a 14"x7" with 4" or 4.25" BS. And even this rubs around corners, from what I'm told. There's not...

what size tire and back space

I've heard good things about the M/Ts, when they're warm (of course, that's when they all work best). Like I said, 275 is going to be close. The rear ends weren't perfectly centered from the factory, and I'm not sure what rear suspension you're running or what ride height you're at.
  21. 73SwingerBuild

what size tire and back space

I would put that as a maximum. There isn't too much of a difference between the plane that the spring limits the tire at and the plane at which the inner wheel well hits the tire.
  22. 73SwingerBuild

what size tire and back space

9"-10" thread width puts you pretty close to the wheel lip/inner wheel housing. Centering it is the main issue, and the backspacing needs to be perfect. What rear end? Disc or Drum brakes? Stock axles? Also, what ride height? The wheel well tapers in, so if your car is lowered, you're even more...

GMachine Dart - New Wheel Package

Looks like I need to just suck it up and relocate my springs. Anything past a 235 seems to be a nightmare on stock rear ends... The design engineers should have known we'd all want 305's on our cars lol

GMachine Dart - New Wheel Package

Will these fit with stock leaf-spring location? Also, are your front spindles in the stock location? I'm essentially trying to determine if these would fit a 73' with minor fender mods... You're one of the first guys to post a combo like this with the listed backspacing, which plays a huge...

    Tire size recommendations

That backspacing should allow 245/45R/17 tires all around. The only issues might be sway bar clearance in the front. There's a few forums on here about 17" wheels on darts. I would look around before ordering. -Mike

wheel back space question 15 x 7 BBP

That's a good amount of backspace, which will move the tire closer to the rear leaf springs. I know that typically, 15"X7" wheels with 4.25" of backspacing work well on stock suspension configurations. I can't see the extra 3/8" being a huge issue, but I would wait to hear from somebody that's...

1970 Dodge Dart Swinger Wheels/Tires Advice Needed!

Spot on. 15X7 with 4.25 (fairly precise here... not much room for error) and 255/60-15s will fit. They will definitely be tight, but they fit.

Are there any 235/60-14 tires I can buy that give decent traction ?

I have 14" wheels myself and I've had trouble finding a decent drag radial available for that size wheel. I'm looking into just buying some 15" wheels with tires mounted on them that I can throw on when I'm heading to the track.
