Lets make the best real world *MPG* THREAD EVER !!

I believe he is talking about the 5.9 Cummins. They are excellent engines with stellar fuel mileage.

Anybody else run type F transmission fluid

I ran it in a 904 many years ago with a /6 bracket car. It worked very well in it.

Lets make the best real world *MPG* THREAD EVER !!

Dad still has his 1976 Feather Duster that he has owned since probably '97 or '98. It regulary got 32/33 mpg on the highway. 225, 3 speed with overdrive and 2.76 rear (7.25) if I remember correctly. We will get around to fixing it some day and it will go back to original. While we are not purist...

Cummins mpg vs 225 Slant 6 mpg

I am a slant guy but being that we own two Cummins powered trucks, I'd have to go that route hands down. Dad's '01 24v gets an easy 20+mpg anytime. The only slant vehicle I have seen get better fuel economy than a Cummins is dad's Feather Duster. Power and mpg go to the diesel without question.

That is way cool. I'm in Union Grove, NC. The 340 in it for power is classy

    1970 Dodge Coronet 500 barnfind

They are a love it or hate it car for sure. I dig them. There are so many one year only pieces on a '70 b body so it is a good thing to find one complete. A trans cross member for the '70 is unique because it takes a different bolt size than the '68/9 b bodies and lots of other small things...

    Old Dodge Trucks

Here is my work in progress '41. It may upset "every thing street rod needs a Chevy/Ls1" crowd but this one is all Mopar. Only thing GM is the alternator. A Mopar LA engine drops right on the stock frame and disc brakes for the stock axle are at rustyhope.com.

    Buying used parts

Converter or pump is one thing I am on the fence about. No problems with intakes or headers. I prefer an intake with no milling. Who knows if it will even fit?? I have ran several used cams and never had an issue. I make sure the lobes are nice and I always put new tappets on regardless. If...

    Damn Mopars anyway

Cummins 4Bt would be easier to do than the 6. The 6 cylinder Cummins would be an absolute pain to drive because of the weight. I believe the bare block is 300 pounds. The Cummins would get good fuel economy. At least a Cummins comes in a Mopar. Gm engine in a Mopar = fail sandwich.

1968 Match Race ~ Barracuda 340-S vs. Camaro SS 350

No. It is not that they are a deck skirt block per say but there is more room in the LA for stroker crank clearance. I may have misworded that.

1968 Match Race ~ Barracuda 340-S vs. Camaro SS 350

With a SBC, you pay extra for the stuff that comes standard on the Chrysler LA engine. *6 inch rods *Deep skirted block that clears stroker cranks easier *Shaft mounted rocker arms The only advantage to the sbc is maybe the valve/pushrod angle and of course cheaper. I still stand tall saying...

    aftermarket gauges newb

It depends on which gauge. I prefer mechanical because if there is an issue with your electrical system, I don't think electric gauges are going to read properly or they could get damaged if there is a sudden spike in the system. Anything can happen and never say never. The one gauge I could...

who is running a stock slant six

The guy I got my '70 Challenger from had another '70 Challenger that he has been fixing up. It was born with a slant six and I told him he should really leave it in. Call me crazy but I'd walk past a lot of other Mopars to see an original slant Challenger. There's almost none left. Just like...

who is running a stock slant six

That's the route I should have went, street driver. My car didn't have a title and since it was a drag car since the '70s, I just went further with it. Will probably never do a tube chassis car again. It is far to expensive for a poor person like me. 13's for a street driven /6 is fantastic.

who is running a stock slant six

Man...that car is awesome. I'd love to say where it falls flat at but I haven't had the chance to hit the local drags with it yet. I will gladly post a video when it happens. Have you weighed the car? I know that the /6 engines love compression.

who is running a stock slant six

The Ford 300 six is actually a pretty good engine. But my old '73 Dart with a stock /6 had 354,000 miles on it when I sold it. It ran good for an engine with that mileage to!!

who is running a stock slant six

I can't be in the club. My 254 at .050 cam, 11:5:1 compression and many other mods puts me out. But, dad has a '76 Feather Duster that is 100% stock. Don't want to change much about it because it gets really good fuel economy. Slants are fun engines.

Twister EV2 what to look for

Look for a51 on the fender tag. Slant 6 was standard with 318 being optional. A '71 has the 340 style grille standard. Rallye wheels on them did not have trim rings. The twister could also have the twin scoops. 340 dusters were not available with them from factory. Check typical rust as with...

    Dodge Diesel/Cummins Mechanic Advice Needed

Were you ever running a fuel pressure gauge? The vp44 needs at least a consistent 10 psi of pressure to live comfortably. There is actually a computer inside of the vp44 that can overheat and die from lack of fuel pressure. The diesel actually keeps the injection pump cool. I always recommend...
