NEED HELP,FUEL PUMP BOLT ISSUE,LEAKS OIL

Red Loctite is generally referred to as non-removable. (Without heat) Blue Loctite is easily removable. It can double as a sealer Red Loctite should be considered non-removable.(without heat) Blue Loctite is meant to be removable. If you have it on hand, I don't think it would be a bad thing...

NEED HELP,FUEL PUMP BOLT ISSUE,LEAKS OIL

When I fix things, I like to do it once and permanently. To me that means Heli-coil or Keensert. There may be enough room to do it on the car but if not, remove the cover first. The hole has to be drilled out and tapped to the proper size for the insert. Right angle drill? And any fastener that...

Use in tank electric fuel pump to empty tank?

When I sold the engine and trans from my 68 Barracuda, it happened suddenly and unexpectedly. FABO guy looking for a good 318. I answered his wanted post and boom, engine and trans gone the very next Saturday. That left me with about 15 gallons of premium in a car with no engine. I thought I'd...

Replacing filler neck to tank gasket on 64 dart

It's actually pretty easy to drop the tank. That might be a good idea just to look at things on your 55 year old car. I instslled a new tank for my 64 Valiant when I got it back on the road 4 years ago. I'm pretty sure I left the filler neck attached to the quarter panel, maybe just loosened the...

Where to buy Carburetor Rebuild Kits.

SSD recommended Daytona Carbs so that's where I got mine. They use updated materials that are compatible with today's fuel. Call them with the number off your carb, they were very helpful.

Fuel tank replacement - What seals to order?

I replaced the tank in my 64 Valiant with one I got from Vans Auto ax they had a good price.. My tank pad was torn but in reasonable shape so I used it as a pattern to make one out if PSA closed foam sheet. I ohmed out my original sending unit and it seemed fine so reused it. Some of the after...

    Fuel Problem - Carter BBS!?

Michael made some good points. The amount of fuel in the bowl is controlled by the float acting on the needle. Make sure the needle and seat are in good shape and the internal passages are clean. Including the jet orifice and the bowl vent. Check and adjust the float. Relying on my memory...

    Gas pouring out of carb

I had the same thing on my /6 with Carter BBS last summer. Took the top off the carb and removed the brass float and shook it. Uh oh, it was leaking and gas was inside causing it to be heavy enough that the needle wouldn't seal against the seat. I drilled a small hole and shook the gas out and...

    750 Edelbrock carb

Look at 4secondsflat.com He sells an adjustable distributor advance limiter plate that works pretty well. See if you can download the carb manual from Edelbrock and study it. There are charts for tuning the carb. Your carb can be made to work on your 360. You didn't say if you have the AVS or...

    Carb Choice (New 318)

X2 I have a Carter 625 cam on my mildly built 318. This is the AFB style with the 2 step rods. Not the AVS style with 3 step rods. (Air Valve Secondary) It's basically the Eddy 1406 except original Carter build. I downloaded the manual for a 1406 from the Eddy site and used the chart inside for...

    Dialing in a Carter AVS

I used the Edelbrock strip kit in my 625 Carter AFB, 2 step rods. Direct interchange between jets, rods, springs. Your AVS has 3 steps. See if you can download the tuning guide from Edelbrock as it's very useful. If you can't find it call their tech and tell them you have their carb and they...

Eddy 1406 600cfm Metering jets and rods?

I have this carb on my mildly built 318. I would try it first before changing anything. Go to the Edelbrock site and download the manual if you don't have it. It's about 30 pages and has charts that show the combinations of rods and jets. I bought a strip kit that has several jets, rods...

Best place for Repo fuel tank and 3/8 sending unit to buy from

I've bought AND parts from 521 and was satisfied. Looks like they are out of stock on a lot of tanks though. I go to a lot of Mopar shows and Van's consistently has the lowest prices on tanks. I have one from him in my 64. Also got a new grommet, float and other small items and they are fine...

Evaporating Fuel in Carter 4-Barrel Carb?

I have exactly the same issue in my Valiant and Barracuda. Carter 1 bbl and Carter 625 AFB respectively. I understand today's gas formulation makes it evaporate quicker than before. Seems to me 24 hrs is the limit. If I drive either car on consecutive days, it's not really a problem. I don't...

    Carter 1 bbl..?

I just checked mine a few days ago and it did NOT have vacuum at idle. Increasing the speed of the engine did produce vacuum. This on a 64 225 slanty.

    Gas gauge not working

Check to see if the ground strap is in place. It connects the sending unit tube to the main body fuel line. It jumpers around the short rubber line that connects the two together. I get my fuel system stuff from Van's Auto.

    Replacing whole fuel kit?

Sending unit ground strap so the gauge works. Are you mostly restoring or hot rodding? Vans Auto has good prices on fuel parts.

    Fuel sender going bad?

First thing I would do is check if the grounding strap is still in place on your sending unit. It's pretty easy to remove the sending unit from the tank to check things out. I don't know if the gas gauge works in my "new" 64 valiant but I had to replace the tank due to pinholes. I checked the...

    cleaning fuel line

You might try ramming a semi-stiff wire through each end and see if that helps. (thin wire coat hanger?) I just saw that Eastwood sells an aerosol spray can with a funnel tip that they say can be used to clean out fuel and brake lines. I don't know how effective that would be. I doubt it would...

    New fuel tank needed

I believe zinc plated steel is what the originals were. (May have been galvanized but fed regulations may control that now) Anyway, they were bright plated originally. I'm pretty sure I'll discover that I need a new tank for my 64 Val and I'll probably get it from Vans Auto...

Blown diaphragm on fuel pump??? 75 Dart Slant 6

Once you get the pump off the engine you will notice that there is a lever that extends out from it through a hole in the engine block. The lever is driven up and down by a lobe on the camshaft. That is how the pump is powered. If it leaks, fuel can drain into the engine which ends up in the oil...

How to get the nuts/screws? out

Those are factory anti-theft screws so Juvenile Delinquents don't steal your flip-open gas cap. I know some guys back them out from inside the trunk using Vise-grips on the threaded shanks but...... I bought a socket to fit them from McMaster-Carr about 8 years ago. IIRC, there were 2 sizes...

    pipe compound

No need for sealant if the fittings are FLARE style with straight threads. That's where the fittings have an angled nose that mates to a similar angled seat on the female part. If the threads are NPT (tapered pipe threads) then yes you need a sealant.

    Strip intake bolt hole

If the nut or screw head takes a 1/2" wrench, it's a 5/16" thread. You can get a complete kit at Auto Parts stores like Auto Zone. Pretty easy fix.

    Edelbrock Carbs and Ethanol

I bought the coolcarb at the NATS last year but never installed it. It looked like a well made piece and the demo the guy gave was pretty convincing I guess. I have a Carter 625 (EDEL 1406) on an aluminum Weiand intake. Last time I had the intake off, I blocked the heat crossover using SS...

edelbrock 1406, running way rich, how do i tune them?

Previous owners :banghead: no telling what you have until you check it out. Remove the jets and metering rods and write the numbers down that are stamped on ALL of them. Refer to the Eddy tuning guide that was already posted earlier and this will tell you exactly where you are. It might help...
