    LA 360 or Magnum 5.9

The stock heads won't make the same horsepower, and they have issues with cracking. The thing about the EQs is they aren't that expensive. By the time you spend any money on the stock junk at all, you might as well have bought them. I believe a set from hughes with decent springs is like...

    LA 360 or Magnum 5.9

Make sure you get the stock flexplate with the magnum. Converter issue solved. I made the hp numbers you are looking for at the tires with a small hydraulic roller cam and EQ Magnum heads. Thats over 400 on motor. Didn't touch the shortblock since it was drug home from the junkers. Steve

    Edelbrock LD4B

That doesn't surprise me. The performer has some narrow twisty runners compared to the 4B. From the carb height, I would guess they are shorter as well. Not sure why Edelbrock went to an inferior design intake, other than maybe it fits more cars easier?

    Edelbrock LD4B

toolmanmike: I have a restalled stock converter. I am sure a looser one would be better, but I drive the car a lot when the weather is nice and its fine. Mattax: Yes, that 273 intake looks like a 4 bbl version of the factory intake that came on this 318. Obviously, this 318 single plane was not...

    Edelbrock LD4B

I chose the Summit 6901 for the wide LSA to keep what meager compression the 318 had and for the nitrous. Its also got a very fast (I think 34* ABDC) exhaust valve closing event to help preserve dynamic compression. Somehow, it sounds pretty badass also!

    Edelbrock LD4B

I just bought an LD4B off ebay for the slightly unreasonable price of $250 shipped. Going to dyno test this with the Action Plus back to back on my 318 Satellite when the weather gets a little warmer.

    Edelbrock LD4B

What makes you say that? I suppose everyone else's stock longblock 100,000 mile 318 makes peak power at 6500 RPM? Never mentioned running the Performer intake. You'd have to run an adapter to run the holley on the 73 intake, right?

    Edelbrock LD4B

MPH is a much better show of horsepower, but: If its a mild combo, .1 isn't that bad. Obviously the better part is only going to be able to improve power if the original part is a restriction. Alternatively, if there's a restriction somewhere else (carb or heads for example) putting on a better...

This crap has gotten ridiculous....Edelbrock LD4B intake manifold for mopar dodge chrysler small block 273,318 | eBay There's another one listed for $550. As soon as I can get my hands on an LD4B, I'm going to dyno it back to back on my car vs. the Weiand Action Plus (that's available NEW...

    Edelbrock LD4B

What car was this? 2900 lbs? Why did they turn the inertia off? Do you have a dyno graph? What's the combination being tested here?

    Edelbrock LD4B

As you're going for consistency this is nearly impossibly to do. As soon as you WOT it, it is going where the converter flashes anyway. Doing it twice for a back to back comparison consistently would be unlikely. How long are you at WOT under 3500 RPM anyway? I've got a Mustang dyno and I can...

    318 Cam Maybe Not

Haha, I like it too! Still got it. Have a "new" trans for it. Going to have to do something about the motor- #2 cylinder is definitely not happy. Plan is to get it back together over the winter for more hijinx next year. Want to do Drag Week again. Might do some upgrades as well. Would like to...

    318 Cam Maybe Not

I put this cam in my Satellite. Stock 318. Stock heads. I installed a Holley street dominator intake (dual plane would be better, but I am spraying it), as well as some hooker headers and dual muffler shop exhaust. Summit Racing® Classic Camshafts SUM-6901 The car picked up 70 rwhp over the...

380hp magnum crate engine build questions

The website says you can use the LA pan and the LA timing cover with the one piece gasket, provided you cut the half-loop out of the front and use the one that comes with the LA timing cover gasket set. This makes it not a one piece gasket, of course, but it doesn't leak if you use a little...

    71 Duster 340 carb replacement

I'm a big fan of the Street Avenger holley carbs. Almost all combinations need a squirter upgrade and/or put the pink cam on the #2 hole, but other than that they are typically trouble free and make awesome power. Recently had a 383 Road Runner on my dyno and it picked up 20 peak and 40 average...

    Anybody use EngineQuest cylinder heads?

Ditto on the AFRs! I send them emails periodically hassling them to start making mopar heads. LOL I don't think being "pro EQ" means being anti-Edelbrock. I also think the RPM air gap is the best intake going for small block mopar, and as you can see from the performances listed above, the...

    Anybody use EngineQuest cylinder heads?

I'll believe 11.70s in August on an 8" tire and a 1.92 valve head, and a stock 80K mile shortblock. You can call it hype if you want. I'll say to the OP, or anyone else, the EQ heads are pretty awesome. They're mega supercalifragilistic awesome when you consider how cheap they are. Wish I...

    Anybody use EngineQuest cylinder heads?

Well, your car was smoking, had guide issues and wouldn't rev. I don't think that makes for a scientific comparison. I'm not saying your car isn't working better with the Edelbrocks, but I don't think the comparison is valid. I also had valvetrain issues with the Iron Rams I got. Then I...

    Anybody use EngineQuest cylinder heads?

Hmm. That 1110 spring should be sufficient for that cam. I'm guessing you were having valvetrain issues of some kind. The Eddy heads take a stud rocker. What rockers were you running on the EQ heads? I had the 1110 springs on my Iron Ram heads with the 1.90 valves. Car went 11.70 at darn...

    Magnum Adventure

I converted some stock magnum roller lifters to solid for pushrod checking purposes. Its pretty easy. I just pulled mine apart and stacked some washers in it to take up the slack. I found with my Magnum cam that had been ground on LA blank that i needed pushrods approximately .040 longer than...

Why am I drawn to the aluminum??

Well, been there, done that. I was inspired by the same Junkyard Jewel article when I built my Magnum. I *bought* the Eddie Magnum aluminum heads for my project, even installed them. then I saw some pretty convincing flow numbers in a couple of places on the EQ heads, and sold the eddy heads...

    Magnum Adventure

If you're building a Magnum anyway, I wouldn't be in too big a hurry to sell that camshaft. It sounds like the cam in my car with less lift. If that's the case: It rocked. The 110 lobe separation isn't going to cause too choppy an idle for street use if that's what you're worried about. Look...

    Magnum Adventure

Hey: At least the head doesn't look cracked.... Sorry man. You should be able to find a good usable 360 magnum block for less than the cost of going through that one. What LSA is the cam supposed to be, vs what it is? The magnum heads crack because they're induction hardened rather than...

5.9 and 360 LA use same parts?

Pulling an engine out of a Durango sucks. Been there, done that. I'd let them handle it. The Magnum uses a unique balance. It is not the same as LA 360. All 5.9 magnums are the same, though. Any 5.9 magnum flexplate should work on any 5.9 magnum. 5.2 magnums are internally balanced so balancers...

5.9 and 360 LA use same parts?

Hey: As stated, the LA 360 pan is the one for the magnum. And you do not need a high volume oil pump, all it will do is suck horsepower. You can use the one piece gasket with the LA pan on the Magnum, its just not so one-piece anymore. The only bit that needs changed is the front "U" that goes...

    360 LA or 360 magnum

Thanks for the post! Obviously, I vote Magnum. With 73K on the clock, you should be able to get to your hp goal without touching anything on the shortblock. Mine makes 320-330 rwhp on the dyno, which is well over 400 at the crank, and there's room for improvement.

built up 318 oddly low MPG's? hp rating?

The double pumper is killing you. They are not set up for fuel mileage. Even if you adjust the stuff you can, the PVCR and everything else in the metering blocks are still set up for a fat mixture, and things are only ever going to be so good with that 727. The car would also drive a ton nicer...

    carb choice and slick size

Hey: I run a 670 street avenger as my cruise/ light strip carburetor. Its plenty for your motor. My car has run 11s in the quarter with that carb. It is great for the street also. Very responsive, quick to start. My combo needed a 35 squirter and up a couple of jet sizes for peak...
