    STRANGE axel twisted?

That`s a bummer but honestly I`m impressed. You must be putting a lot of power to the pavement to twist an axle like that. I hope Strange gets you fixed up.

Lightening Tricks For 68 HDT Dart

How about the engine, you can lose a lot of weight with aluminum heads, intake, and water pump. Mini starters are much lighter than the originals too. Exhaust can get heavy, especially if you use thick gauge tubing, welded mufflers, and tailpipes. The bumper brackets on 68 Darts are pretty...

Guess ET for 318 ? With slicks ???

I think you`ll see the most improvement in your ET`s once you get the rear end set up with the proper spring clamps, long shocks, pinion snubber, proper gear, and tire type/size/pressure. If you`re having to pedal the car at launch you`re losing a lot of time, I think you`ll see several tenths...

Guess ET for 318 ? With slicks ???

Wow, 2.94 and a 4.56? What`s going on here? Are these just gears that you`re able to get your hands on? Neither gear seems a good match for your combo. With that 2.94 gear you`ll probably never get into 3rd gear and with the 4.56 you`ll probably run out of engine. The 3.91 you have now sounds...

    Inside block paint

I`ve read it`s supposed to speed up the return of oil to the pan. Many engine builders will go in and clean up the casting of their blocks with grinders to remove all of the extraneous casting material and smooth the surfaces. Then they`ll apply the paint to slicken the finish.

    Snorkel scoop benifts?

A good sealed hood scoop that`s set up correctly should net you a tenth or two in the 1/4 mile. Keep the top of the carburetor 1/2 - 3/4" below the plane of the hood and make sure it`s sealed so only fresh cold air is brought into the engine.

Get my car to launch better...

It sounds like you picked up a couple tenths without spending too much money. Good job! With some more practice at the burnout box, the tree, and speed shifting I bet you`ll knock off another tenth or two. Congratulations!

    Blasphemy

Getting good sponsors is one of the main focuses of any racing team, especially in an economic recession. They`ll put just about anything on those cars if you throw enough money at them. Does anybody remember the Underall`s car in Nascar?

    Aluminum Bumper Brackets

Great idea, I`m in for a pair. The front brackets have a little weight to them, whereas the rears are not much. You know what they say though when shaving weight. "Don`t look for one place to cut 50 lbs., look for 50 places to cut 1 lb." I think it would be a great idea, especially if you can...

Get my car to launch better...

There is an advantage to unclamping the rear section of the springs but that`s for DRAG RACING ONLY and even then you should keep at least one clamp on for safety. I wouldn`t suggest it on a street/strip car. Good info on the shocks It sounds like you`ve made an admirable improvement with...

Get my car to launch better...

I`ve read somewhere that some of the older Ford trucks had a long shock that could be used for the rear on our cars but I know that Mancini carries MP and Comp Eng. rear shocks and they`re not expensive. The Comp shocks are adjustable. The overall length should be about 28". The clamps can be...

Here`s a few cheap things you can do to help : Use long shocks in the rear like the guys have mentioned Install clamps on the front segment of the leaf springs Use front shocks with no less than 40k miles on them Use small diameter torsion bars from a slant 6 car Move the battery to the...

    Aluminum Bumper Brackets

Softer metal= better vibration absorbtion? I'd use some type of rubber between the 'glass bumper & bracket anyway......... It`s all about weight, you can probably knock off ten pounds switching to an aluminum bracket when compared to some of the factory steel brackets.

    the best 440 heads

I had Dan do the work on my 440, excellent guy that knows his Mopars. I`ve heard that he`s had a lot of medical issues and has had to sell one of his factory race cars to pay for hospital bills. I hope he`s gotten all of that behind him now and that he`s better healthwise and financially.

    is gear to much

I used to run 13 x 31 slicks with a 4.88 gear in a 440 Super Bee. The large diameter tire will allow a pretty high numerical gear to be used but you`ll almost have to have a stout solid cam. With that said, when you get into the 5 to 1 ratios you`re usually talking high revving small block. The...

    Aluminum Bumper Brackets

It`s great to see some good `ole cottage industry at work here in the USA. Although I don`t have a Duster or Dart in race trim, I wish you the best with this endeavor. If I ever get serious with my Barracuda I `ll look you up because I`m sure you`ll be doing 67-69`s by then. Best of luck to you!

    Another slow 340

It sounds like a pair of slicks with long shocks, a pinion snubber, and clamping the front segment of the leaf springs would go a long way. You`re probably losing almost a second spinning the tires for 80 feet.
