Back Up Light Switch Engagement Conundrum

I'm wondering if he's talking one for an automatic transmission

Back Up Light Switch Engagement Conundrum

I have a two-post switch. Actually, I have two of said two post switches, and if I understand correctly, one of which is the new style and one of which is the old style. The new style has the "jam nut" style short hex ring, with only the switch prongs exposed through the plastic portion...

Back Up Light Switch Engagement Conundrum

No, I mean weld a little dot on the back of the reverse lever arm itself, not the switch ball. Believe me, Brewer's was the first call I made, but they were as baffled by the whole thing as I am.

Back Up Light Switch Engagement Conundrum

Wow, I have been away from this website for a long time! I am deep into the process of a meticulous teardown, cleaning, and rebuild of the iron case 833OD that I swapped into my Valiant two summers ago. I just started reassembling the transmission yesterday evening. After installing the entire...

    Leaking Transmission Reverse/Backup Light Switch

I've been trying to chase down a slow leak in my 833 since I swapped it into my car earlier this summer. After lots of searching and many small gear oil puddles later, I've all but concluded that my reverse light switch in the back of the tranny is the leaking culprit. Has anyone ever dealt with...

Iron Case/Tail 833OD Output Shaft Seal Question

Thanks for the quick reply, Russ. Had an interesting time getting it in, but a hole saw-ed 2 by 4 worked magic for pounding without bending the lip on the thing!

Iron Case/Tail 833OD Output Shaft Seal Question

Thanks Dave. So I popped out the old seal, but before I put the new one in, does the orientation of the holes in it matter? I'm thinking I'd put it in so that the hole in the rubber seal is at 12 o' clock position?

Iron Case/Tail 833OD Output Shaft Seal Question

Okay, I need to really look into this [obviously] before I put this transmission into my car in the next month or so. As the title of this thread states, I have an iron case 833OD and I am confused about its output shaft seal. Currently, the trans looks like this: The splines are exposed on...

My [Ideally] Authoritative Auto to 4 Speed Documentation Thread

I know these aren't the most exciting update pictures, but I figured I would show them as further evidence of my progress. It feels so great to see things coming together--no matter how minuscule the progress appears. Z-Bar with some linkage attached Shifter linkage mocked up on the...

My [Ideally] Authoritative Auto to 4 Speed Documentation Thread

Well, I'm starting to see a little bit more progress as I finish painting and start getting things really ready to go into the car. I finished painting, assembled, and installed my pedals the other day. Out with the old... and in with the new! I also had to go for a short maiden...

    Back Up Light Switch Location?

Just throwin out an idea...someone might have done that for a tranny temp gauge. It wouldn't be a bad place to put one.

Yes sir. I've got a /6 until after college, so that's what the 4 speed is going behind!

My [Ideally] Authoritative Auto to 4 Speed Documentation Thread

Wow. It's been too long since I last updated this thread. Thankfully I'm finally done with my first year of college, so now it's time to get REAL work done. :thebirdm: Anyway, here is a little bit more of what I've done lately to prepare for my swap. I painted another inspection shield that...

if they didnt paint the trans

I think they painted iron ones, but I think they left aluminum ones as-cast. I'm not 100% sure on that, but the two aluminum ones I have only had engine overspray on 'em when I got em.

My [Ideally] Authoritative Auto to 4 Speed Documentation Thread

John- I just measured them. The 1-2 rod is about 12.5" long, the 3-4 rod is about 17" long, and the reverse rod is about 14" long. Keep in mind these are F-body rods for a 1976 833 OD, but I hope the dimensions can be helpful at least as a reference.

My [Ideally] Authoritative Auto to 4 Speed Documentation Thread

Antoon- I wish I could keep my rubber mats and stretch them over the hump, but they were already ripped up. And from the floor pan pictures above, you can see the havoc that the rust wreaked on the backing pad of the mats. Unfortunately, then, I had no real better option than trashing them. So...

My [Ideally] Authoritative Auto to 4 Speed Documentation Thread

Well, it seems that lately my old Schwinn Varsity has turned into a veritable tree of 4 speed parts! The only things missing from it are the pedal bracket and the clutch pedal. I'll probably paint those by the end of this weekend, and after that it's time for reassembly. Good thing I took some...

My [Ideally] Authoritative Auto to 4 Speed Documentation Thread

Yeah, it's just standard 1967-1974 or 76 A Body 4 speed carpet. It'll be nice not having to pay shipping on some things (for once!) on the things I buy at the show.

My [Ideally] Authoritative Auto to 4 Speed Documentation Thread

I actually haven't even been able to find new rubber mats from anyone. I kind of like the bare bones look of it as compared to carpet, but I'll probably pick up some new carpet at Mopars in the Park. Hopefully I'll be able to get a show special or something...

My [Ideally] Authoritative Auto to 4 Speed Documentation Thread

Shoooooot. I pulled my front seat quick this afternoon to look at placement for the shifter hump. I knew already that my passenger side floorpan had been done [somewhat roughly], but when I ripped out the rubber floor mat completely this is what I found. I guess I'll be putting in some new floor...

My [Ideally] Authoritative Auto to 4 Speed Documentation Thread

Okay, guys. I wasn't entirely sure what to do with this thread since it's really neither a restoration documentation nor a troubleshooting issue, but I figured I would go ahead and put it in the 4 speed forum. So my plan for this thread is to document my complete four speed conversion in my A...

Frame Rail Ball Stud Pivot Reinforcement Bracket Dimensions

Thanks pntastar69, I didn't have the right search keywords to find that thread I guess.

    What trans should I run?

I haven't voted, but since I'm working on getting my own stuff together for a four speed swap I figured I'd give you my two cents. I'm about 1100 dollars into my own parts accumulation, and I'm looking at about 100-200 dollars more to be COMPLETELY done. I'm going from an auto on the column to...

Frame Rail Ball Stud Pivot Reinforcement Bracket Dimensions

I'm looking for all the dimensions on the bracket that plug welds to the frame rail on the driver's side to reinforce the ball stud pivot for the z-bar. I've got a piece of 1/4" steel plate and I'm looking to make my own bracket. Thus, I'm looking for a list of the dimensions of this little...
