    confused about this sure-grip

Personally, if this guy had been receptive to an offer of $400 for it, and he hadn't been such an *** on the phone, whether it had a suregrip or not, it would be in my possession at this moment. I've had several clutch type suregrips that did the weak clutch reverse rotation thing when off the...

    518

Careful, these are computer controlled, best to see if it faulted through the computer, by seeing if it threw a code, but it most likly is a physical failure. Not sure if this works on a CPU controlled transmission, but you can tell if you've lost band assist by putting the trans in manual low...

    confused about this sure-grip

I believe I saw that one on the KC Craigslist for $500. Called about it and the guy was very vague, didn't really act like he wanted to go into detail about it and got annoyed when I asked about pics of the bolt pattern. Asked him if the price was firm and he got real defensive. If I'm going...

    Help Needed!!!

Is the noise there while in gear, or only when you depress the clutch to shift? If only when the clutch pedal is depressed, then yes, I agree it's probably a throw out bearing that finally locked up. BUT, you mention it got quieter in 3rd, which tells me something totally different, meaning...

Do i need a trans cooler?

Whether you need one or not, an external trans cooler on an automatic is something that should be there regardless. If I get something with a slushie behind it and it doesn't have a cooler, it gets it, along with a fluid change. I generally detest slushies, anyway, not taking care of them will...

    71 Demon 340, 3 speed or 4

Then it was equipped with an Inland shifter, as most earlier '68s were. The Inlands had a pull handle that had to be pulled to engage reverse. The reverse light was used on the Hurst shifters so you had warning of when you were in reverse, since the Hursts didn't use an interlock to get into...

    71 Demon 340, 3 speed or 4

4 speeds in A bodies built after 1967 all had dash-mounted reverse lights. That having been said, a 3 speed is a weak kneed wimp, if you want to thrash it at some point, the 4 speed holds up better and it's more conducive to the fun of thrashing one. I'd go with the 4 speed. Mark.

A-518 Who has put one in an A-boby

This thread is a good one for the 518 install end of it. As far as the physical engine fitment part, I've done it with a 4 speed trans, but the automatic install is similar. If you want to do the Magnum, with it's fuel injection, into an older car, I can also help you there, as I have...

    727 what year is it?

I have part number "...3681862..." in the listings, it's a 1974 model year 727 automatic transmission, for a 318 or 360 2 barrel, in a B or C body. Additionally, you have "1B435244" in your original post, which would seem to be a VIN from a 1971 application, but I'm betting the '1' is...

    8 3/4 or ford 9 in.

I dunno' whether this fellow is actually building 1000 horsepower or not, but his question about what will hold up seems an honest and legitimate one to me, why stir up doubt? I'd certainly want to know if it were me and I hadn't done it, which I haven't. I do suspect that you are going to need...

big bolt pattern for 7-1/4 rear??

I'm going to check you on that statement. :D Reason I'm even questioning it, is that I believe I vaguely recall pulling axles and finding that the bearing set-up is different between large and small pattern. I wasn't pulling the axles to use, I was pulling them to remove 7-1/4 housings for...

will a f/m/j body 8.25 rear fit my duster

A pre-'91 Dakota is also a good one to look into. I do know that the F body rear is similar in width to the '65-'67 B body rear end and the B body 8-3/4 works very well under a Duster. On all of these the spring perches should be moved inboard. Mark.

    SPLINE confusion

8-3/4 are ALL 30 spline, even A body small bolt pattern axles. The aftermarket offers a 35 spline axle and spool. Most people may assume that you know that 30 spline is the standard, others may just be clueless and don't know. On both points they probably figure you know what you need and you...

    Will my original 66' 273 904 tranny work my my 69' 340?

1966 904s use the same speedo adaptor assembly as the later years. A 998/999 tranny is only 1 clutch, and maybe a heavier band, stronger than a 904 in typical applications. As far as the convertor hub goes, since you are rebuilding the tranny, update to the later ('67-'77 pre lock-up) pump...

    8-3/4 questions

If he'll cut and re-spline the axles, you might want to do the housing at an even 51", because the B, C or E body axles are @ 5/16 per side wider than a stock A body axle is. There's very little outside tire clearance on a '66 Dart as it is, so a slight bit narrower can't hurt any. Mark.

    904 output yokes

Dana 60 or 8 3/4s both used all-steel clutches. If they don't look scored or seared, no sense in replacing them. Mark.
