    Ede. Torker II single plane

I've been down this road. My combo in a '69 Dart was very similar but I had nicely ported heads and the smallest solid lifter cam Hughes made with 4-speed and 3.55 gear. The best manifold hands-down was the RPM Airgap deeply ported to match the heads. The second best manifold was the Weiand...

    Help with Camshaft Selection..........

If you can do it once and for all, I recommend adjustable valve train and then you can use any cam you want down the road. The smallest solid lifter cam offered by Hughes Engines will give you everything you want. I know from experience. I know there are alternatives and I hope some of the...

    New lifters won't pump up

Doesn't sound good. How much oil pressure does it have? Even a minimum of 20-lbs will pump them up. Look and see if it is eating up a cam lobe - just look at the bottom of the lifter. I have had much success preloading just 1/4 turn. It sounds like your engine is consuming itself. Pat

Brand new 340 and no balls

I know the electronic setups are nice and normally trouble free but I don't think the dual point deserves the bashing it's getting. Anybody who doesn't want theirs, send it to me!! The Prestolite dual point is a very nice piece. They were standard in all the early hemis! Crackedback put you...

    Quench?

Fishbreath, in hemispherical engine's heads, the quench area is actually 100% over the piston. It is the same with pent roof combustion chambers and applies to 348 and 409 Chevies and the old 430 Lincolns. The wedge chamber became popular in production because it was easier to cast and...

    Quench?

I certainly understand your fears! You have to have the best rods. In my 331" SBC in my S/G Vette, I ran that squeeze using Manley Pro Pistons that we custom domed (looked like melted sherbet) with gas ports, .043 moly rings .100 down from the deck. I used Childs and Albert aluminum rods and...

    Quench?

Ramcharger, you are a silver tongued devil! Excellent explanation! I have found that .025 quench clearance makes the best power; not hard to do with a zero deck height. Still praying for a good job to come your way! I think you would make a great TEACHER!!! Pat

    i think its blowed

Ouch is right! I would follow ramcharger's suggestion and check retainer to guide boss clearance. I would surely think the pushrod would get mangled with that kind of crunching force but it appears ok. Watch out for the lobe on the cam...for every action there is a reaction equal and...

    Idle problem

A PCV valve will cause to happen what you have. It is leaning out and struggling to stay lit. If it is not the PVC valve, look for a vacuum leak somewhere else! That 3310 is an excellent carb. If you take the curb idle screws out 2-full turns, it should be sufficient idle fuel. If you have...

    How to 360?

I am with SGBARRACUDA about the Hughes cams. I used their smallest solid lifter in my 360 '69 Dart 4-spd, 3.55. It was beautiful for my combination for the street. I don't like their step seat deal for the inner valve spring. Dollar for dollar, nothing gives you more of a kick you can feel...

    Small block confusion

The early LA blocks oil into the heads differently. The newer 360 "Magnum" engines oil like a chevy with oil coming out of the roller tappets up each pushrod. SBC roller rockers can be made to work. The earlier 360 heads are the way to go for 318 because they are shaft rocker and have larger...

    Startup Procedire ?'s

You are covering the bases well. You want it to start and run as quickly as possible to avoid cam and lifter damage. Be sure the carb is full of fuel and give the pump arm a push and see that the squirter is working. Set the idle screw so that you know it will run at least at 1,500 rpm once...

    oil pressure

Be sure the drill is turning the right direction and the hex shaft is fully engaging the pump. You could have a problem with the pick-up not being submerged. You can try adding more oil which can be removed. The relief piston in the pump could be stuck open and letting all the oil bypass...
