    rear end woes

Howdy gang.. Been a long time since I've checked in... Spent some time with the Dart today, and frankly im a bit frustrated.... So... The Dart has only seen partial action the last few seasons because of rear end troubles. I had a 741 case 3:91 chunk in it... the pinion bearing went bad and I...

    This is bad.

Oh I know... lol.. but with the thrust buttons installed you wouldnt see any daylight from one side to the other... Thats all I was saying

    This is bad.

Im thinking its something to do with the green bearings... the OP has said several times now that he can see from one side to the other, so there are no thrust buttons in the center section...

I kinda figured as much lol... but like I said it smelled a little burnt to me... but the car had just been running when I smelled it, so it may be just what warm tranny fluid smells like LOL ,.. all I know is the kind of luck I have something is toasted LOL

    tranny woes

Once I put her on stands, I will most likely drop the pan real quick, and see what I find.. If I dont i find any bits laying in the pan, I will check the bolts holding the valve body in and be sure they're tight, put the pan back up, put some fresh fluid in it and mess with the linkage...

    tranny woes

It's a forward pattern valve body, but regardless. Shifter adjustment is gonna be my 1st point of examination. Then I'll go from there... I do appreciate the help

    tranny woes

Hadn't thought of that... I'm def pretty dumb when it comes to how tranny's work.. Answer me this., if the shift adjustment is out enough to affect reverse and high gear, wouldn't it be out as well for 1st and 2nd? I have no issue with those... Again I'm just trying to get a better understanding...

    tranny woes

I'm def gonna start there.. I still don't understand how shifter adjustment can be it if it acts like its in neutral until I have the rpms up and then it bangs it's way into reverse. But it's where I will start

    tranny woes

But would shift adjustment be intermittent? I figured if the shifter was out of adjustment, that it would either be out, or in.. no sometimes.. ya know? It is worth noting at this point that a week prior, I had my mechanic install a quarter stick.. He did say it was touchy getting the...

    tranny woes

Hey gang... So while im housebound on a cold and snowy day I figured I would ask a couple tranny questions.. My Dart (click the link in my signiture for that build) has a stock 360, 727 with a cheetah forward pattern full manual shift valve body, 8.75 with 355 sure grip... Right before I...

    7 1/4 rear strength

This subject has come up a few times in the past. So here again is my take on this... There is no doubt the 7.25 is the weakest of the rear ends in our beloved Mopars, but I am in the group that does NOT believe they are total junk. I had a 7.25 sure grip, 276 gears in my Dart (which started out...

What the hell is going on with shops?

I was really on neither side of this debate. but this posting really made me think about things differently. My good friend opened his own shop 2 years ago now, and I have never really given a lot of these things mentioned a thought.. I never question his prices, and I know he probably loses...

    What can a 7 1/4 rear take???

I ran the 7 1/4 sure grip with 276 gears behind my 360 in my Dart for a couple of years with no problem.. burnouts and all.. I wasnt exactly kind to it.. but from what I have read and heard over the years, I was apparently lucky.. Though I believe if you just cruise the car and your not out...

    Trans Fluid....+4?

Or it could be two and one half dozen of the other... Could be Chrysler trying to make you buy the more expensive stuff.. in order for them to honor a warranty.. which being that your car is 41 years old I would say doesnt apply.. I agree with 73AbodEE .. If the color is right, stick it in.. (I...

    Trans Fluid....+4?

Well I guess we'll wait and see what others say, I have never had any problems with my tranny... as for your other questions, I have no idea why the Wal Mart stuff doesnt say synthetic.. and I have no clue about the converter either.. sorry

    Trans Fluid....+4?

Me personally, I would use the Dex3/merc .. Thats whats in the tranny in my Dart

swapping 8.75 for 7.25, brake drum problem

Im confused.. the 8 3/4 had drums and backing plates on it when you got it but the drums were shot right? it was all small bolt.. did you stay with small bolt or go big bolt? regardless, I was under the assumption that 8 3/4 backing plates for 10" brakes were all the same? I was also under the...

    8 3/4 question

I would say $240 was a great price.. I got lucky, found my 8.75 housing, axles, and backing plates at the Mopar Nats a few years back for $350... then I paid $200 for 742 center with .323's (sure grip) .. But by and large my experience is that a-body 8.75's prices just continue to rise...
