    Rapid Air System

I have used the 3/4 system many times, great product! I wouldn't try the 1/2" for the fitting style, and I wouldn't use the 1" for the fact that the tubing is in foot-long sections(wtf?). If you have a fitting blow out, just check the straightness(true right angle) of your cut and make sure to...

    air compressor conversion

Northern tool and others sell replacement motors and pumps, but for the price you might as well buy another compressor whole, even used off CL, and strip down what you have to use as an auxiliary air storage tank to extend your capacity. We do it at work all the time. Cuts down on run frequency...

    bench grinder deal

I've noticed that here too, lots of the time pawn shops want about 75% of retail. And only on the strangest stuff like used electric tools...

PRI show, bought the Quick Jack

Have you tried it yet? I'd love some pics, been considering this, seems for the price it can't be beat.

    Help me choose

I think you'd be alright with the kobalt for paint, unless you were tring to do a big job. Even a complete car minus front clip would be pushing that compressor and tank past its limit. If you have another tank that's in good condition (not rusty inside!) then you can extend your capability...

    Finally I own a welder

I haven't tried the more advanced features yet, all my practice has been on mild steel with the torch switch only. Honestly haven't done anything in a while life has been crazy. But yea I didn't mind the bump in price for the features, I've got big plans (headers, intake, suspension...

    Tig torch...

Been doing all my practice so far with just the torch switch, trying to work on puddle control and moving/feeding wire at appropriate speeds. Prob won't mess with my pedal until I feel a little more confident with just the switch.

    Finally I own a welder

Here's the machine: Screwing around just pushing the puddle, then cut my scrap for a couple short lap welds Then a butt weld on some different scrap Filled some holes Then found a good piece to do a steel "skill drill" as outlined on weldingtipsandtricks.com All of this was here and there...

Need advice on a compressor I picked up

Lots of options depending on what you are going to do with the air; paint, tools, etc, from many manufacturers. Here's some: devilbiss And to plumb your shop, I recommend this, I use this kit all the time for work: maxair

    water/ oil separator?

If you're going to do a lot of painting, even several small parts, you should also put a water trap ahead of the dessicant to keep it from going bad too quick. I've even seen a professional 3 stage system on craigslist and the dessicant to refill isn't too expensive. Or if you're handy with a...

anybody running sch 40 PVC pipe

The maxair setup available at norther tool and probably others, works well. We use it repeatedly for new set ups in the company I work for. Extruded plastic inside and out of aluminum tubing. Easy to install and a kit that would be good for home shop use runs 200 plus tax here in TN.

Preval paint sprayer, anybody tried one?

Technically it is an aerosol, just gives you the ability to mix your own paint. They spray good, but just like any other rattle can. A cheap hvlp can be made to work great, just takes practice. Fwiw you'll spend more on the preval cans than just paint and a paint gun. If you're worried about...

Don't know how to ask/don't know what I want.

An easy way to get smoother steadier lowering is to make a handle at a right angle for the pressure valve. Even if it locks/lowers through the pump handle, one that shoots off to the side will help get a small, controlled valve opening for the right amount of drop. Could be as simple as drilling...

    Miller high frequency arc start

Thanks Dave and 67, sorry bout the century/everlast misquote, I appreciate your guys thoughts. I got set in my mind that if I was gonna buy a welder I should go ahead and get a tig for the versatility and cleanliness with less warping when patching panels in. Sometimes I see things like that box...

    Miller high frequency arc start

I'm familiar with scratch starting, never done it, but familiar. My dad has an ac/dc stick welder already, so I thought it could get me welding on the cheap. I'll be fine either way, I'm contemplating buying a century tig like user davebonds got. Just have to wait another month or so. More...
