oh sorry i forgot to say i did that while revving and it stayed at 14. but it stayed at 14 with the dead battery so i thought i was safe but just threw the spare battery in to see and there it was. I am going to go through and clean all the grounds today and do some basic maint.

update, this morning a threw a spare battery on the charger... once it was charged up I put it in the car and bingo everything is normal. I put the cars battery on the charger and I am surprised it started the car, it was dead. Thank you for your reply's and help. I will download the manuals...

it was 12v with no key in ignition. it was 12v running. now it is 14v running and stays there when i rev it. but guage is still reading high and peaks when i rev it. when idleing guage reads half way on the high side and gets close to the 40 mark when i rev it. also alt is getting hot, but wires...

that is where the center console harness would go if you had one, not sure on the bigger connector

if you do the later choice it will work fine. I would have marked where the old rotor was pointing and install the new to match. I am guessing what motor you have but if small block it can only be on or 180 out, if it spits n farts out the carb flip it 180 and it should run. I am in long beach...

so i switched out the ecu, got it grounded, presto it lives again. warm it up then when i put it in gear it died. i was frustrated and had stuff to do so i walked away at that point. i hope i didnt toast this ecu?

i have never had to use a ground in the past, but when testing the ballast i did notice the bolt in the ecu didnt ground the volt meter, but the screw in the washer bottle did. i mite have another ecu, how can i make sure its grounded?

no it came in a car i sold years ago, kid didnt want motor trans. it had been in my garage for years thought i rememberd it was rebuilt but aperently not. lol at least the orig trans from this car was sitting next to the car, so i have the next few days to get the broken one out

wow, today while moving cars around the yard, i fired up the dart to move it. NOTHING!! no gears what so ever. It is full of fluid, linkage is all hooked up, drive shaft is in. am i missing something?

ok so the engine is broken in and runs really good so far. i found that the new alt, has a small pulley so i switched out for the older one, still pinned. i am going down today with a meter. guage was never un hooked.

so i primed it and everything looks good . so when i fire it the alt guage pins max + ? any ideas what would cause this?. new volt reg, new alt, . i know i am missing something obvious, but i know you guys are the experts. thank you for your time

its called a reluctor, should be set between .08 and .12 make sure to check all points of reluctor, as they are always off. sand paper works fine to bring em down to where they need to be

yeah my old 75 burned up the fusible link, and i had to chase wires into column and change ign switch. good luck

there is a eloctronic lean burn dist. with no vacum adv.

after going through about 5 auto zone alts i had an old one rebuilt at a local electrician for about same price, never had another problem with alts. i would say try napa or get it rebuilt

maybee your alt went bad and drained the battery? sounds like you have no power.

use a multi meter, with key in on position, check your voltage @ battery, ballast resistor and @ pos terminal of coil. if your not at 12v its probably a wiring issue. thats what im dealing with anyway. 12v @ bat. 10v @ ballast, 6v @ coil. good luck i know im hoping for some
