JUST TO CLARIFY RIGHT OFF THE BAT! I know what this car is and how rare and hard to find it is. This is just a..... whats my potential? This car is a second owner CA car. Barracuda 383S with factory 4 speed, factory disc brakes, straight body, nickel size rust at 2 spots at the bottom corners of the rear window. Original paint, but needs a paint job. All numbers are matching on everything, this car still has the original spare tire on the rim in the trunk. Engine is out and in the process of being freshened up.. new timing chain etc...., Every part is there! Now.... I may be looking to trade (and before anyone says... i'm an idiot, cause I already know that, but there are special circumstances that may require this). What im kind of looking for is something that is already complete and running good, with nice paint/interior. A complete car if you will. The catch is the trade is for a complete not so rare car for a very rare needs to be finished car. I'm in a position that may not allow me to finish, this is the only reason im even writing this. Soooo.... let me know what kind of cars people are willing to trade for. Like I said, this is just a What if case that may turn into an... ok lets do this case. Thanks for your time.

On duty today and tomorrow, I have pictures from when the car was brand new, exterior, interior, and engine bay. When I get home I will try my hand at posting current pics along with it new.

That is soo,oo,oo cool waggin

Who needs paint? Just drive it and enjoy. In 10 years a car with good paint could use another paint job, but your car will still be a 383 A Body.
I know, not what you where looking for, my apologies.

Hi,just for conversation sakes NADA puts the value at 11k(low),(18kmed),(28khigh) on that car.I don't know how accurate those values are.The value on your car comes down to how bad someone wants that particular car.The motors out so that makes it harder to ship the car etc.The car is rare so that means a top notch resto job at some point for who ever would get it (read big bucks and alot of labor hrs.)I just sold one last week that i would have offered for trade,it was a hi performance build all new front to back.Bear in mind i am a freak for 1969 formula-s barracudas.Knowing the work and cost involved on your car, i would have wanted to trade straight across. An original restore is alot more money to do than a hi-performance build. If this isnt the car you really want then i say get it running and sell it then buy a turn key car.Hope this helps.8)

There's a guy who still drives his '68 convertible 383 car around locally here. It's a wreck but still cool it's getting used. I've seen it as late as two years ago in the snow and dead of winter...lol. Are you sure it's original? That rear seat pictured looks odd to me.. but I'm no A body specialist. IMO, if you can't afford to do it the way you want it, DON't. Cool to have? Sure. But if it was in the cards you wouldnt be fretting about it this much... $.02

The numbers I have are 4243 383 A-body Barracudas. Is one of 53 for '69 383 4-speeds? I'd pay more for an unrestored car that drives and doesn't have big rust problems than a half assed restoration. With those, you have to undo everything before you can start over, and you don't know what's hiding. You also have to question what they did as far as an engine rebuild, and how far they bored the block. I'm not trying to be a dick here. Big block A-bodies are definitely cool, and 4000 or so made 40 years ago, plus whatever Darts were made, is still a very small number, but I have one friend with an original 383 4-speed Dart daily driver, and another original undriven 440 Dart. The real money in these cars is what it costs to restore one if you want the Barrett Jackson type dollars out of it. Your not an idiot, and your goals sound very reasonable. You have a lot of good selling points. It's a matching numbers big block, 4-speed, little rust, and original paint. What do you mean by "Engine is out and in the process of being freshened up"? Are you doing a dingle ball rebuild--just new rings and bearings, or .030" over? If you're selling/trading the car, I think the new owner would want the car as it is, without you doing anything else to the car.

If you really want to move that car you need to get it outside and take about 20 or so clear pics.

Include…

Interior (front, rear)

All sides of the body

Trunk

Under hood

Fender tag

Have to agree with most of your points plus you are from Seattle! Did you say 383 dart daily driver WOW.On a more serious note we have alot more old mopes running around this neck of the woods than alot of orther parts of the country.Hearing and seeing of a 1969 383-s car isn't particularly shocking to us.Back east or in the Midwest its a different story.Your point is well made the car will be worth more just as it sits to most buyers.

IIRC, the production #s for all 69 383 coupes was under 200, with about half being 'cuda383s and half being ForumlaS versions.

Wow, I really like it! From what I can tell in the pictures, it would be completely cool to drive as-is. I hope you or someone gets it on the road and shares some pictures. Good luck...

Personally, I like unrestored, driver type vehicles. They dont have to be spotless, all shiney, show only type vehicles. I've never owned a show quality vehicle, and never will. I like to drive them, enjoy them as they were made to be enjoyed, not worry about every little paint chip and piece of bug crap.

What condition are you going to trade it? You said the engine is being refreshed. Will that get finished? Will the engine be put back into the car so that it runs and drives? Or do you just want to stop and trade it the way it is?

There will be a lot less people willing to take it if its a roller, even thought the engine comes with it. Most transportation companies dont want to deal with it if it wont move under its own power. If they do, they charge twice as much. And if the engine isnt in it, forget it. Now you are talking about a specialty company that will charge three times as much to move it.

So unless you put it back together, you're going to lose your shirt. But if you put it back together, then you have a running, driving car already.

So just put it back together and drive it as is. Fix it up a little more every time you have a couple extra bucks to spend on it. Meanwhile, listen to the exhaust, bang some gears, and try to figure out where Detroit went wrong.

I moved here from Southern California, and that's where the 383 GTS is. I drive my '69 Charger R/T up here every day, rain or shine.

I have a 68 383 console 4 speed barracuda, a Dart GTS and I just bought a 69 A56 Barracuda off a guy on here. None of them are restored, just nice old good running muscle cars. I myself like them this way, there like time capsules of cars I wish I had when I was younger, and now can afford to have. When there not restored, you can have more fun with them. Id buy your coupe from you, but dont want to trade any of my cars off.

Dude you drive the RT everyday rain or shine, with the weather and the traffic? That's outta control!

People pay more for Toyotas and Hondas, and drive those every day as they depreciate. The gas mileage is outrageous, I will admit.
