What a great build. Thanks for posting this, as I am getting ready to do a T5 conversion in my 64 Valiant.

No, NV3500 out of a '99 (I think, I bought it already removed). It has Cherokee, Wrangler, and Dakota parts cobbled together with a custom set of driveshafts.
Got it..
I have an NV 4500 Slated for my '77 D200 and a '93 5.2 Magnum slated for my '78 Voyager Sport Van

What a great build. Thanks for posting this, as I am getting ready to do a T5 conversion in my 64 Valiant.

It's worth the hassle. Makes even the wimpiest stock slant 6 more fun to drive in modern traffic.

9/23/20:

Getting some work done on the mighty 1 bbl - It had some fuel starvation issues pretty consistently in the last 2 outings of autoX on Hard R Turns - Fuel Sloshing away from the one Jet(located on the right side in the fuel bowl) in this carb.

I built a small baffle that hopefully will help.

I tried to drive it to work today, but It wouldn't' start. Maybe I set the float level too High... Those floats must be touchy in regard to level changes. I will pull the plugs and see if I flooded it and will also make sure there is spark.. will double check carb float levels and reset to stock if needed.

Some pics of the mighty autocrossing 1 bbl...

10/15/20:

Well the Baffle Idea in the BBS had me baffled.... ha.. no It did not work.
Took the car to the Salem, Va AutoX and Still had Fuel starvation / Bucking issues with the car in Hard R Hand Turns. It was a blast however seeing some Stout Corvairs and Mustang II tearin' up the cone course.

I also was able to do some mountain Driving with friends on the Back of the Dragon from Marion to Tazewell Va.... whatta Fun Road!
Salem Va AutoX 9/26/20 - Slant Six Forum

I got Back home and last night the girls wanted to go to dinner and the fall weather was just right.. so a ~270 Mile Drive to Summit Racing in Tallmadge seemed appropriate. All interstates this time.
- Was able to procure some goodies for various projects including an aem 30-0300 and a Set of Enkei RPF01's for Grüne Hölle. We ate dinner near Kent State Univ, before heading home.

50483584783_714bf597ea_c.jpg

Also Found a decent fix for my Smashed Driver's Side Door armrest. I did a pile driver move on it with my elbow at the autox Course in Virginia. It was toast.

Future (Winter) Plans include:
-Building a Proper oil pan - I mean you can't go to moroso or canton or stefs for Slant 6 pans...
-Mounting the Falken Azenis's on the RPF01's
-Fitting the Fiberglass Hood
-Installing a proper engine / Intake / Exhaust with O2 Sensor
-Maybe fit up some better front Seats

Cheers, Greg

✅Enkei's installed
✅Falken's Azenis rt615k+ Installed
✅Driving Tour Scheduled for Saturday

Got the new parts installed. I began by checking to see if the rear wheels would fit. I ordered 7.5" wheels in +48 Flavor as the Axle / Chassis setup I have actually likes more + offset to keep the tires from rubbing with an 8" wheel. The Previous Wheels I had on the back were 8" wide but I had them machined to +52 mm Offset to keep the tires from rubbing.

10/24/20:

We have had a beautiful, Dry October this year.. Rare around here to say the least.

I was excited to try out the Falken Azenis' and the Enkei's - Drove Grüne Hölle to work 2X this week. There is a bit of rubbing on the Rears again when the car is fully loaded with family, fuel and luggage. I have some options to explore there, and I am sure I can get it figured out.

We also went on a Rally / poker run style driving tour today. Of course the great weather we have been having broke and there was rain overnite making the leaves a bit slippery at times and the routes that the Fracking Pad well trucks use somewhat muddy. But we still had fun, and the girls were along today to help read the pace notes and navigate.

Event was Hosted by the Western Pa Triumph Club and the PVGP.

3/14/21: Coronaversiary wrenchin'

1 year ago today I began to work from home for a while, like many of you did or probably still are.

Today I am beginning to pull the old trusty stock 225 that smokes terribly on downhill grades when in gear, and spits and sputters in hard corners on the autoX due to the 1bbl carb.

I will be building a proper Baffled / Dropped / extra capacity Oil Pan for the Loaner engine that I will be putting in for a few years while I gather parts and skookum slant 6 goodies for the (hopefully) final engine (unless boost prevails some day).

I began pulling the puny 1.5/ 1.75" exhaust, as well as fuel, electrical, and water connections.

Once I drop the driveshaft and get the trans out It will be ready to get the welder out and start fabricating!

Lots of Cutting, Welding, Grinding, and Fitting this week!

Greg

3/28/21:

Lots of Welding, Cutting, Grinding, Hammering, shaping, checking for proper fit going on.

Pictures tell the story I think:
On the First Mock up I got a general Idea of What Needed Sliced and diced on this pan:
51081525838_25bc556cba_c.jpg

After the Second Mock up I knew what needed to move where... This Pan Hit the steering box side of the K frame, and Had a More Rearward Sump which was fine, I moved the Front of the sump forward about 3"
50997299994_da40cdb6ea_c.jpg

The Flat Sheet you see here replaced Bulge that was about 3/4" too far to the left.

4/6/21:

Well I got sidetracked off the project for a while - The Power company took 11 Trees out of my yard that were dead for free... But I had to do the clean up - that was part of the deal... Now I am back on task.

Got the Pan all done on the outside / water checked for leaks. I used a Stock 67-76 Dart/Valiant A Body Pickup tube and the Pan was 1.5" lower than the pickup, so I had to extend the pickup tube down to the pan bottom by the same amount. - Hardware store Steel Pipe was helpful in that endeavor.... Just cut a 1.5" section and Hot glued it into the tube, and boom, the tube reaches the bottom of the pan again.

All of the rest of the work is now focused on the inside, adding Trap Doors, Pickup isolation and Baffles.

Next Up, Baffles, Trap Doors, slosh control, Oh my!

Greg

4/10/21:

I think I finished the Pan Today - Only took 2 or so weeks to build. Made Trap Doors, Baffles and More Baffles to prevent the oil from running up the sides of the pan on turns.

Checked for clearance of the trap doors to the Pickup - They swing freely and Clear the pick up fully when open. Also clearance and checked that the pickup tube clears the Right Side Baffle that I added.

A also got a box in the mail that had Hatted Rotors for the rear axle :)

Now onto finishing the engine and Making some exhaust!

4/12/21:

Got some small things done.

Refreshed / Painted Bellhousing and associated parts.. I blasted the shifter handle. Maybe I will get it Chromed someday but for Now It will be semigloss Black.

I will begin to build the block and mock up the pickup tube and Pan with the actual engine that's going in the car. It will have a rotating assembly and all the proper bits.

Shifter handle Stick Before: (It is some sort of swap meet Parts bin Find, but I like it as it has a great hand position relative to the steering wheel.

Greg

4/14/21:

Got Lots of small things done recently.

Cleaned, blasted, and painted motor mounts, lots of engine mounting hardware, and the Shifter Handle.

I am currently Building a Loaner Short Block, so I needed to find all of the hardware, nuts, bolts for the Tins, Valve cover, Fuel Pump, Timing cover, Distributor hold down, Coil and misc brackets to make the engine do its thing.

Most of those Items I had in my parts stash.. So I was able to dig most of that stuff up and begin to mock up stuff on the block. I found out that the engine is 0.060" over bored and the piston is -0.157" in the hole, so with my big valve 45cc Head, and a steel shim head Gasket 0.020" the compression will be right at 9.78:1, which should be prefect for street cruising and serious autoX / track Days with an NA Cam.

I will be building a Timing cover with a Cam stop, and I had to buy some Rocker arm Shims for side play as well as longer Rocker Adjusting Screws and an Oil Slinger.

I have a New Rollmaster Timing Set and a New Romac Harmonic Dampner for the engine as well as Roller Rockers that I Believe are 1.5 Ratio - I have not measured them yet, but I forgot I had them... They turned up in my parts stash :)

I should be able to get the cam degreed in soon, as well as the Timing cover with the cam stop welded up.

A few more small mods on the oil pan should wrap up the bottom of the block.

Degree Time!
51116364756_9e50f2a055_c.jpg

Greg

4/16/21:

I got the Cam Locked in at Intake ℄101°... First Time I installed it at 0° on the multiple Keyway Crank Sprocket that came with the Rollmaster Timing Set, It measured out at ℄98° so I set it to the -2° on the crank sprocket (which must be 4° camshaft Degrees).. anyway it's all worked out. Recommended intake ℄ was 100°-102° so it's just about right.

Also got lots of little things completed and the Cam stop Built, using an old Rocker adjustment screw as well as some 3/8"-24 Fine nuts from the hardware bin.
51117476347_9f77a76ea3_c.jpg

51117792704_339f503429_c.jpg

Time to Finish the Tins, Install the Rear Main Seal, Lots of Gasketing, Oil, Water Pump, Some revisiting on the oil Pan for dipstick and Other small issues , then seal it up move on to setting the Rockers up, Intake, Carb, Fuel Line, Headers etc. I might throw an extension on the vent tube on the fuel pump to keep the area behind the fuel pump less oily too. It will probably throw oil out everywhere if I do not do that with the corners that I am anticipating.

I will also be putting a mock up head back on that mock up block to hang the headers and build an exhaust before I drop the actual engine in the car. - Fire up the Argon Bottle for Some Stainless Mig and Tig work...

Greg

4/19/21:

I finally Finished up the Oil Pan - Added Some More Baffles at the Front and Back to Separate the Sump from the Area Just under the spinning crank. I also added a windage Screen.. It's Held in with 4 Button head screws that I loctited in place. Also Added a provision for the Dipstick (thanks MadScientistMatt)

I put the mock up block back in and Hung an old Head on the block along with the bell housing, Z, Bar, Clutch Fork and Headers. Began mocking up the exhaust. Waiting for my 2nd Argon regulator to arrive so I can weld it correctly with some back purge argon inside the tube.

The Pan is finally done - whatta beast it was to make that part..

Mock up Block back in to begin the Exhaust Primary Tube mockups... The Front tubes will take a bit of time.

Backpurging is recommended for a reason..so is using a TIG machine that has a foot pedal and is not a lift start

Waiting on some parts before I can button up the oil pan and Timing Cover..

In the Meantime The Rocker shaft shim packs came in..
It's nice that the old MoPar Engineers were too lazy to make the stock rocker shaft any different from the B-RB/ A/LA Hemi Blocks The Shaft Diameters are all the same. (thanks Willem Weertman and Tom Hoover)
So I was futzing with setting the side play on the rockers - Almost done - Some are too tight when the shaft was torqued down.. Need to remove 0.015" spacers on a few pairs.

Still waiting on adjuster screws from Smith Brothers too.

This engine is using some of the recycled top end parts from Ruster - Push Rods - and 1.5 (I think ) Roller Rockers that came from the Mike Jeffery Cache of slant 6 speed parts.

I still have yet to see if all of this fits under a stock Valve cover without hitting stuff.. It's not a High Lift cam so hopefully I don't have the rocker screws hitting baffles and other parts in the rocker cover.

Happy Hemi Day.. I don't have one of those so I am celebrating by getting some stuff done on Grüne Hölle.

I got the ARP Cam bolt Installed..it's dimpled in the middle for use with the Ball End Rocker screw.
Got the Timing Cover bolted and sealed, Got the Oil Pan installed. Got the head installed, torqued and set the Cold Lash on the Lifters in prep for the first start.

My Backpurging Equipment arrived... Now I can attempt make better / nicer / more structurally sound welds in the Stainless tubing for the exhaust. I also got to doing some tube fitting as well.

I was able to get some more exhaust work done.

Got my 2 down Pipes (for lack of a better term) (the pipe from the header flange to the Y collector before the muffler) Completely Mocked up and one fully welded.

My next task will be to fully weld the other down pipe and then work back from the wye collector and build the intermediate pipe and tail pipe.

Fitting Pipes - Blue Masking tape is helpful when working with non magnetic stainless for fit and making proper witness / alignment / clocking marks.

Not Perfect, but Getting better' Cept for where I burned holes and had to use a bunch of filler to fix it. Backpurging = easier TIG Beads on stainless.. YAY!
