1965 MMP's Barracuda Hemi swap! The Ever Changing Build

-
Quick update: Planned on test starting the motor but life as it does happened and now I find myself after the thanksgiving holiday with nothing accomplished on the Barracuda. I spent the time rebuilding an A904 for my d100, and helping my boy with his bug build. Was going to barrow a oil priming setup for the motor and broke down and ordered what I needed instead. So next week I should have a pressurized tank/tool to prime the oil system in the hemi as well as a new pressurized setup for bleeding the brake system... inching away at this build... some uphill climes seem to go forever....

Okay so it been a minute. I've been having issue getting this motor to fire. I have fuel, spark and air.. I get popping and the occasional back fire.. everything seems to be working "except" my obd2 reader can not connect to the ecu? not sure why.. I have two trains of thoughts... 1. the cam is not right, chain loose or jumped a tooth what ever seems like a timing issue. B. ECU is dead... But I have fuel pump, injectors, throttle body moment, starter, and spark BUT the OBD2 reader cannot find the ECU... OR option III. I have an issue with both... ugh
So I'm going to tackle them both.. A few weeks ago I purchased a used 6.1 cam off another member here and since have ordered a set of non-mds lifter, new head bolts and mls gaskets at .070". I've received everything with exception of the head gaskets. Soon hopefully... As for the ecu I have another I can plug in and test but that's a whole nother issue in itself. Its become evident that I need to relocate the placement of the ecu to make it easer to deal with.. I've also been talking to Ryan from FlyinRyanPerformance about once I get the ecu to talk to the OBD2 reader he'll help be get my ecu wo's sorted...

I'll be honest this to me is the hardest part and is the reason for my procrastination. tearing the motor down an swapping everything not so much, the hidden Blackmagic they call EFI. I understand enough to get myself in way to deep and now I have to figure my way out of the rabbit hole...

I will post up any updates...

You might try changing your crank tooth setting on your initial data load. Mopar did some teeth changing mid year. I don’t remember now what year your Hemi is but if crank tooth is set wrong on data load the motor will give absolutely every indication it will start but won’t. Ask me how I know.

Well its a 32tooth setup and supposedly this computer is the has the correct setting for this setup BUT I can't get the damn thing to talk to my obd2 reader at the moment... ugh

-Quick update, this year has been nothing but one hit after another hit, so I apologues for the lack of progress. I've been hurt for the last couple months with a herniated disc. We had a death in the family that pretty much shook up my year here at home as well as work, leading to a tribute build of a motorcycle by me that had to be finished & toured by oct, all while helping my buddy swap his slanty to a v8, and another buddy dealing with an a-body big block buy/build, and of course family stuff at home, my son has become a competitive swimmer which pulls us away just about every weekend. looking toward the future I don't see a big window to get much done but I'm on the mend and I'm going to do everything in my power to get this damn car started...! That's all I need. if It light the candles and hold a short but sweet idle we're off to the races. I'm currently at the peak of this metaphorical build hill, if this ***** runs I'm slapping this thing together and melting tires.... So the plan as it sits now is to pull the topend off again!, swap in new lifters and cam put an eye on all the timing makers taking that question out of the equation, drop the dash and relocate the current ecu to an "easier to service" location and swap out the dud of an ecu for my newly unlock and cleaned Sublime 5.7 quick-crate ecu and that's it. Once it lights I'll drag the barracuda over to my shop and build a custom exhaust for it and that's it. That is my goal for the winter... simple and easy. That will leave final assembly and shake down for coming spring and summer...

Dang, I hate to hear about the multiple hardships you've experienced this year. Here's to thing's going smoother for you in the coming months and I look forward to see more updates as they happen!

following and cheering you along. can't wait for the exhaust build, hoping for lots of pics!

you got this man, you're so close to the finish line!

Well for fuk sake! Just when I thought all the projects were finished and I could start back on the Barracuda, this complete tool @seanner swings bye with a "Hey lets 4spd swap my Valiant". Knowing full well doing cool swap **** is like "crack n hookers" I just can't say no so here we are.... All while my poor project sits... ugh

So after some shake down and 1 step forward and 2 back we finally got it right and @seanner now has 4spds shifting and working well. With exception of a nonworking lockup torque converter but that's a problem for another time.
-What we did do was finally started the tear down of the barracuda motor for a mds delete and cam swap. We started later in the day but we were able to tear down the passenger side of the block. Removing the intake, and head. Once that was out we removed the mds liters and then the mds solenoids. These ****** weren't as bad as the internet had me freaking out about. After a slight tap and a quick spin of the solenoid seanner had the damn things pop out in his hand. So we got all 4 out, cleaned the passages and installed the delete plugs. In the next couple days I will work on the driverside of the block but it may take longer than wanted. Unfortunately I found out that I have a total of 3 herniated disc's and one with 2 tears pressing on my right nerves of my right leg. So I'll be going into surgery hopefully soon. This means I be out a few weeks to a few months depending on how they plan on fixing me... BUT I'm a pretty stubborn asshole. So I'll get it done.
Here are some pictures from today.

We also attend the Last Mooneyes Christmas Party at Irwindale Speedway on Saturday. Unfortunately Irwindale Speedway will be closed and torn down. We thrasher Friday night getting a set of wheels n tries as well as lowering and rolling the fender to except the larger 16x7 setup on my son's 62 corvair. The car turned out awesome and was a head Turner. We had so much fun..

No wonder I don't have any fab skills. When you were born you got um all.

We went yesterday to the last drag race ever at Irwindale. It was a sad day.

Well enjoy the winter and I always enjoy checking in to see where you're at. Close now I bet the delete and the new ECU will get you going.
