1966/'69 A100 Twins Build

I was going to ask how you would do that Jim...but I see it turned out great.

All the issue spots are repaired and I AM DONE PAINTING THIS THING! It still needs a bit of cutting and buffing to get a lot of overspray off it. It will get much more shine when it’s done but now I can do it and know I don’t have to do it again because I have to paint more.

RH side and nose cut and buffed. NOS fasteners for the freshly chromed jewelry make it go together so nice.

Blacked out behind the grill and PlastiDip on the wire looms to restore them. About all I have time for on Mammas Day. I have a new mini buffer coming Tuesday so the grill will get cut and buffed before it goes back in.

Only planned on experimenting with the front nose Quiet Ride sound deadener but after you are up to your elbow in contact cement you may as well just finish it. There is a definite difference in how hollow it feels in the cab now.

That’s a much better solution to sound deadening than that “spray on” stuff you spent several days to remove at the beginning of this project.

What a beautiful job Jim. I wished I had your skill set!!

Back from the Midwest. Cab, RH side and tailgate cut and buffed. The Amazon small diameter buffer kit is AWESOME for a hobbiest should have bought it years ago. Nose, grill and LH side touch up tomorrow. Reward time.

Purrtieee.... I passed on one early '90's for $700, still kinda regret not doing that. Guy said it was an A125, rockers were 1/2 gone, but most of the rest was there.

Not sure he knew what it was either :). There are A100 with short wheel base and A108 vans with a long wheelbase.

The QuietRide insulation kits, headliner, rear wall and side trim pieces are expensive but man does it make it not so tinny inside and it looks so much more sophisticated.

Got the glass today so the doors are going together tomorrow.

Said I was going to do the doors. I lied. Ended up blasting and detailing a lot of interior parts. Epoxied stableized the defroster vents with PC7 epoxy as they get brittle and break on the ends. Now if ONLY there was an OEM harness available I’d be almost done. Some has to come back out to put the heater box and wiper motor in but that is not hard. I am really looking for missing parts right now. So far I have found everything.

Just needs a battery, harness and engine to start right up with the keyed ignition cylinder @cudamark!

Doors Done…. Now just need to get a couple Trademan door panels made and snap them in. Next up reassemble the auto shifter and get the hole cut in the dash. Not many chrome parts to install!

I won’t get those 6 hours of my life back. Now i need to light the fire under my transmission guy so this shifter has something useful to do.

Heat shrink tubing is great for restoring cables with failing sleeves. Blasted and lubed the shifter cable then wrapped it in heat shrink tubing to restore the sheathing. All the floor rubber seals for cable, rods and pipes restored and installed. All floor peddles and switches cleaned and installed. I cut the handle off the turn signal lever so it could be straightened and chromed. Reinstalled with PC7 epoxy last night so sanded and painted. Heater control bezels painted with white enamel and softy wiped with lacquer thinner (carefully as it will attack the plastic). Done for the day. Just need to go through the wiper and blower motors before installing them.

Jim,
Everything looks great. Make sure you put some good insulation around the shift cable where it will be next to the exhaust. It also helps if the exhaust is wrapped too.

Prestolite wipers. Same for A100 and early A Bodies. The only thing that goes bad is the cloth wire wrap disintegrates and shorts out and burns out the switch (or is the pivots are bound up and you keep running the motor and burning it up, never seen that in an Az car since the wipers almost never are used). This one was like new inside. Just pull it apart and put heat shrink tubing to keep the wires insulated.

I leave the arms unhooked until it gets powered and parked so I can make sure they go in correct and don’t get jammed up and break something.
