yeah your welder should be plenty strong. the .030 solid wire with gas or the .035 flux-core should take care of it no problem.

Yeah Don she'll get done. NO worries just tired of not having things on my own time schedule.

Thank you. Good luck with the vert and welcome to the site. Great place for all us early-a-body guys

Been busy with life lately. Mostly enjoying it outside of working on the car.

I was not originally happy when I got the shell of my car back from the painter the first time because I was not satisfied with what I would call a nice 10-20 footer. I want a 6in to 2 footer paint job. Therefore, I have been putting in a lot of extra blocking time correcting all the mistakes and trying to make things laser straight. Of course this is my first time doing any body work but I have learned a lot just from my own mistakes. Talk about time consuming. I think I have finally gotten everything blocked to the best of my ability and now it is up to my painter to step up to the plate and do a great job re-spraying the base and clear coats.

It is crunch time right now because I want to have the car mostly put together by May 3rd Spring Fling. It will be in the IN PROGRESS section this year.

Here's where I'm at now with this thing.

Couple of very very low spots I found after wetsanding the clearcoat. Plus I had to sand out some runs in the clear.

Fenders were really good. My painter is really on board with making this the best possible looking paint job. I only found some very minor spots. Got a couple scratches during transport that I fixed too.

I didn't find much more than a couple of low spots with the guide coat. It didn't take much filler primer to smooth these out.

The joy of sanding into the metal (happened more than I like to admit).:thebirdm: Little etching primer with a Q-tip.

Fogged filler primer on the quarters to find any spots.

Oh yeah I test fit the possible 6-point removable/bolt in roll bar too. What do you think? I'm still on the fence since the Dart will be the car I use to race. Probably best to leave it alone.

Until the nest time :-D

Looks great, You already know my vote on the roll bar, but if you want to race it, its a must.

DAVE i thought the car was already painted,,you are an insperation,, i may try the blocking my self,,,you are doing a great job,, i think you should just shoot the paint your self,,and teach your painter his craft,,
as for the roll bar,, i like it,, will look inpressive with the top down,,going down the road rumbling,,,looking good my friend,,,,keep us posted,,,

Personally, I'd bolt in a roll bar even if it was a 4 cylinder VW Cabrio. Landing on your head hurts just as much... but to each his own. Besides, I've driven in SoCal traffic while on vacation. I doubt you'll ever get up enough speed to get in trouble!

<running for cover....>

If I do the roll bar I think I will start out with a 4-point because of the bench seat. I would have it powder coated midnight blue as well.

Unfortunately, I know this car will run in the 12 second range which would require at least a 6-point roll bar at any 1/4 mile track. We'll see. I may have it custom made. I would hate to land on my head and have my welds fail. LOL.

Well I picked up the deck lid last night and got to work on it today. I knocked it down lightly with 1000, then 1500, then 2000, then buffed and glazed it today. Took me about 4 hours to get it almost perfect. I still think I need to buff a little more to get the micro scratches out and a little more even shine. I don't have a big polishing wheel. I just have the small 4" one for the tight spots.

I really didn't want to push it and go past the clear. I'm happy leaving well enough alone for now. My painter has much better skill at detailing than I. The are maybe five tiny, microscopic pinholes I noticed, but nothing serious.

This color is SICK. Metallics are so cool. I'm so happy I put in all the extra effort I into these panels. One down and 5 to go. Plus the quarters.

I've only spoken with Richard at Keisler. He was a big help and was very honest about Keisler's shortcomings and previous unscrupulous practices.

I'm sure Jeff is a descent guy as well.

Cheers

BTW Don I charge my the case of beer. LOL

DAVE ill send you a tractor trailer with a tap out of the side,,,but after the work is finished lol

Dave....I'm speechless. That trunk lid is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd LOVE to see that color in person. Maybe I can twist the wife's arm to go visit Mickey & the gang down your way and just happen to "stop by..." and go for a ride. 8)

You finish that car. I'll go to work on the Wife. Besides, SoCal is like my favorite place to visit... :-D

Thank you for the compliments. This is how paint should look.

It'll be 95% done real soon. The doors are ready for pickup but I can't get them until Wednesday. This will give them more time to harden before I color sand them. The Fenders and will be done this week. This Saturday the car is headed back down to the shop to get a new coat of base and clear on the quarters and rockers. The show piece will be the hood which will be last. The emblems will go on when the paint gets harder.

I have not found a good shop for the blue canvas top yet. No rush for that since I'm in SoCal and the weather has been awesome.

Updates later this week.
