1967 Cuda FB project

I put the ignition switch escutcheon in the dash today. The 67 dash frame has a definite angle drop off to it. The 73 dash doesn't. It's close, but leaves a little gap at the angle. I think I will just use a little filler when I finish the dash and make it blend in a little better.

Then I went to work fitting the floor section of the inner wheel house and welding that and parts of the frame rail in. Then grinding down the welds a little.

I think I am going to reinstall the shock cross member. I might not use it but I think it still gives a lot of strength in that area. That will be tomorrows project.
 
Made a patch panel for the top of the wheel house. Got it welded in and now I have to grind the welds down. Will make some more panels later.

Started to fit the defroster vents for the 73 dash. Of course, it has to be narrowed. I am removing the speaker from the dash so no need for perforated section.

With no more speaker, I had to fab up a filler panel that could be removed because I have to be able to remove dash pad. So I made this piece.

I might mount a gauge pod to it or incorporate some gauges in it in the future.

I made another piece for the wheel house. One more to go.

After cutting bad piece out I finished taking the rest of the rusted drop out. Not going to put those back in. Just gonna go straight out to the quarter.

All welded up. I will finish grinding welds after lunch. Then put the trunk hinge bracket back in.

I have been looking at the side view of the Cuda and wondering if a 2-3" chop top would flow better??? Sleeker look?? Maybe a slight double bubble top like the Viper??? Just wondering.......



geez, maybe I should take a chill-pill or something?? :banghead:
 
After taking the trunk drop out of dr side quarter, I decided to replace the very bottom and a section behind the wheel opening. It wasn't rusted through, but it was only a matter of time before it did rust through. Even using rust stop chemicals. Better replace now than later.

First made a replacement piece for the bottom 2". Then drew a line and cut out the bad stuff.

Offending piece of lower quarter. It was just the very bottom rusty where the inner got really close to the quarter and trapped all the moisture and dirt.

Then I removed a larger area that had the same deep pitting on the backside of it.

Formed and fitted a piece and welded it in. Not really happy with how it turned out, might redo it if I can't dolly out some bad spots.....:protest:

More tomorrow. I might have the dash cover fixed enough to paint and the steering wheel components ready for the powder coating....
 
I was looking at the inner q panel and thinking it's not that bad. Thought about blasting and leaving as much of the car factory as possible.

Then started thinking about the little spots coming through in the Road Runner. I decided to cut out the cancer.

Just for grins I ran it through the blast cabinet to see if it would clean up and I took it out for nothing. I ran the blast as long as it took to clean up most of the rust. here is results:

Can't really tell how deep the pitting was after blasted, the camera doesn't show it very well. I circled the "blow through" areas with a sharpie. It would only have been a short time before it would have rusted through the paint and really pissed me off. lol
 
Started removing pass side drip rail last nite. Got some more done this morning. Filled the trailing edge of the rear side window with a piece of sheet metal. Cut the drip rail off about 6-8" at a time so the roof doesn't separate.

More tonite. Almost have the dash pad all ready to paint. Will take pics of that too.

Not much done tonite. Back is giving me problems. Little sore. Did grind some of the drip rail and sand on the dash pad a little, so something got accomplished. :cheers:
