1968 Dodge Dart GT Sleeping Beauty?

-
I has an issue with the front arm rest screws. I finally went to 1/4 14 x 4” pan head screws. I needed the extra length to attach the new pads and plastic chrome bases. They are about 2” longer than the replacements I got from Van’s. There were no problems with the window movement.

I had earlier replaced the dash pad vents. The prior owner must have had an upset kid when his toy car went down the vent. I found it!
Unfortunately I had to break it to remove it.

Speed Burners (friction drive toy).
They were made in 1977. The Dart was off the road and last registered in 1987. The toy may have been stuck there for up to 47 years. At a minimum of at least 37 years. I hate that I damaged it.

I have pulled so many artifacts out of a 67 Dart Convert. The most unique was a clear plastic drinking cup with the name and logo of a liquor store in TX. It was IN the cavity where the rear window roles up and down into and could only get in there with the side plastic armrest cover removed. The coolest is body putty with the fingerprint of the person who pressed it into the OEM location.

The cup!

I am going to look at bypassing the Ammeter wire in the bulkhead connector and the fuseable link. Ammeter got way too hot.

Amp meter didn't get hot, the shitty undersized corroded bulkhead connections did.

Generally caused from a run down battery and the alternator pumping full steam to recharge it. Bin Der.. Dun Dat. You need a new bulkhead connector block even if you bypass the amp meter...

I do like a cold galvanizing spray. It is not expensive and coats well. It really does not require a lot of prep work.
Two cans did almost all of the bottom.
I never thought about cold galvanizing the underbody, but I like the way it looks on your car. Doing some research, there's several products on the market - Rustoleum, CRC, ZRC, etc. Which product did you use?

Rustoleum. I am pretty sure. I covered some of the areas with a light gray paint. The rear dog legs in the trunk area.

This was the cylinder that had rusted due to the heads not being properly torqued during a test of the motor. There is a slight shadow visible where there was the issue. Machine shop did a full inspection. He went ahead and lapped the valves and installed new guides and all the bearings. We should be good to go.

First assembly fauxpas. Parking light housings needs to be installed prior to the grille.
Hopefully easy to rectify without complete disassembly. I was going to install but I needed the light gaskets.

I was rolling until today. Chad’s shop was slow and then today, he had 10 vehicles dropped off. He texted me later and said 4 were done and he should have 3 more out of the way tomorrow. I know he is itchy to get the Dart running so maybe we will get back on track by the weekend. We have a window of no rain until next Tuesday. The fact he is a Mopar guy definitely helps.

I got these on order. 2 1/2”

FLOWMASTER FLOWFX SERIES MUFFLERS

  • Fully Mig-welded for maximum durability
  • Bright 409S stainless steel construction
  • Reversible “straight-through” design
  • Compact case fits in tight spaces
  • Deep mellow performance tone
The shop is telling me about $750 for a set of duals. Less with me providing the mufflers.

Motor and Transmission are back together. Lokar kick down kit ordered. I got a last minute text - Can you bring it now? An hour later it was delivered. Since I wasn’t expecting to send it to Chad’s, I had disassembled the Ammeter bulkhead inside and out and he will have to put it back together with a new fuseable link.
