1968 Dodge Dart GT Sleeping Beauty?

-
I went to close the drivers fresh air door and it promptly broke off. Quick fix!
for a long term fix get a piece of flat stock about 1/2" wide 1/8" thick and cut it to fit inside the box. drill and tap holes and bolt it in.

OR

Pop rivet it in.

It should be in the Dart fairly soon.

Lots of parts on order. Motor man said the timing is perfect as he is slow. I needed to tidy up the bottom of the Dart. I hate undercoating and I am not a big fan of paint so not many options. The inside rocker panels were in unbelievable shape and I want to keep them that way.

I do like a cold galvanizing spray. It is not expensive and coats well. It really does not require a lot of prep work.

Two cans did almost all of the bottom.
Now I can run my brake lines.

Factory undercoating is still in place. I am just adding to the phosphate on the metal. Car will probably never see rain. Ask the other cars in the garage. They usually are covered in the garage on lifts. Falcons cover was washed.

Finishing up the bottom. Trunk floor extensions were the last item grind and seal.

Cold galvanized coating with a top coat of paint.

Progress should pick up now that a major obstacle looks to have been solved. Last week my motor, soon to be installed was locked up. On Saturday using a borescope there was rust in a cylinder. It looks like the motor was tested and the heads were not properly torqued allowing water to leak. After 10 years the damage was done. Today the motor was broken down and to Chads surprise with his piss poor hone (his description) it may clean up and we can save the block. A machine shop should have it this week and off we go.

After my initial panic I had located about 5 motors. All I could think was all I am going to do is to inherit someone else’s problems.

We decided that we could do the Bumblebee Stripe. We watched some videos and I measured numerous times and we went for it.

3M Reflective Tape.
Stripe is not a bright white. It has a slightly silver mist in the white.

Nice to aim for in a broadside collision. Hope not! Actually the wife said I don’t really care that much when you show me stuff, but that is cool! For once I am a winner with her. LOL

Gas tank install.
It will wear you out pounding the tank to position the filler tube into the gas tank grommet.

If you work on cars get a box of 3M Strip Caulk. It has so many uses. It is perfect for waterproofing on the back of the speed nuts.

Baby had her first bath. There was a break in the weather. Also cleaned and mopped the garage. No more grinding or painting.

It was a nice day to let the carpet relax.
With it being molded I am not sure it makes much of a difference. I will install the front carpet and seats after the engine is in place and up and running.

Note the cinder block on a cutting board to hold it down as I punched holes with a soldering iron.
